India suggests EU to resume stalled FTA negotiations
Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has suggested her European Union counterpart Cecilia Malmström to resume the long-stalled negotiations over the proposed free trade agreement. Sitharaman tweeted yesterday that she suggested chief negotiators should start talks on Ind-EU Broad-based Trade and Investment Agreement (BITA). Both the ministers met on the sidelines of an Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development’s (OECD) Ministerial Council Meeting in Paris on Thursday.
The negotiations launched in 2007 for the proposed BTIA have seen many hurdles with both sides having major differences on crucial issues like intellectual property rights, duty cut in automobile and spirits, and liberal visa regime. Before this meeting, senior officials from both the sides had met twice this year to resolve the contentious issues. The pact is aimed at reducing or significantly eliminating tariffs on goods, facilitate trade in services and boost investments between the two sides. The two-way commerce in goods between India and the EU stood at USD 98.5 billion in 2014-15.

Jun 4, 2:27 PM
In Maharashtra, Revenue Minister of the state Eknath Khadse has resigned from the ministry today. However, more details are awaited. Earlier today, Khadse visited Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at his residence in Mumbai and held discussion with him.
Earlier the BJP has begun the process to act against Revenue Minister Eknath Khadse, sending emissaries to impress upon him to come clean in a land deal in which he is facing allegations of impropriety. The party also indicated that the row over allegations that he received phone calls from underworld don Dawood Ibrahim too was not handled responsibly.
The last 24 hours saw Khadse making concerted attempts to plead his case with the Central and state leadership to defend himself on the controversies.
Reacting on the resignation of Mr Khadse Maharashtra Congress chief Ashok Chavan told PTI the minister was forced to resign as he was facing serious charges of corruption, Congress today demanded a high level investigation into the allegations against the BJP leader.
Former AAP leader Anjali Damania, who is on a hunger strike demanding Khadse’s resignation for the last three days, said this was the initial victory for her after exposing Khadse’s wrongdoings.

The growth in the Internet base in India has been exponential and rising penetration of smartphones is fueling this growth. According to a recent Boston Consultancy Group (BCG) report,
INDIA@DIGITAL.BHARAT, it took 20 years from the introduction on the Internet to reach 100 million users. The second 200 million will likely be reached within three years, and a third in less than a year. In fact, the next four years will see nearly 350 million additional Internet users. The primary drivers of this
exponential growth have been expansion to small towns / rural India, increased affordability due to lower-cost data-enabled smartphones and ever-increasing awareness of, and need for, the Internet. “It
has been endevour of Swipe to offer lower-cost feature-rich to the aspiring youth from tier-2 and tier-3
