Pratap Atwal takes first round lead with sizzling 65

Chiragh Kumar, Ashbeer Saini in tied second

Pune, April 5, 2016: Delhi’s Pratap Atwal took the first round lead at the inaugural Pune Open with a sizzling error-free seven-under-65 at the Oxford Golf Resort. Chiragh Kumar of Delhi and Kapurthala’s Ashbeer Saini were in joint second with scores of five-under-67.

The 24-year-old Pratap Atwal, playing his second season as a professional, had a fruitful front-nine thanks to three birdies. He further accelerated on the back-nine adding four more birdies to his card. Pratap, who has two top-20s in his five starts this season, made birdies on all the four par-5s and also had two long birdie conversions on the fifth and 15th. Atwal established his two stroke lead with a tap-in birdie on the par-3 17th.

“I placed my shots really well today even though I didn’t hole too many putts. I struck my long-irons well. I played decent last week in Bangladesh so that gave me a lot of confidence coming here. I capitalized on all the four par-5s with birdies,” said Atwal.

He added, “The game plan was to hit fairways, not get too aggressive and play to my strength which is hitting long. I took it one step at a time and it all fell in place for me. After the turn, I was aware that I was well-placed, so I kept it simple by looking for the safe side of the fairways.

“A good first round always sets you up well for the week, so I’m quite pleased with the start.”

Chiragh Kumar, a winner on the Asian Tour last year, too had a bogey-free opening round. Chiragh left himself two short conversions for birdie and also sank a 25-feet birdie putt on the fifth.

Chiragh said, “I was pretty solid off the tee and hit my irons well. Importantly, I didn’t make any mistakes today. I was a little disappointed that I made birdie on just one of the four par-5s since the par-5s provide good scoring opportunities here.

“My birdie on the 17th, where I landed my tee shot three feet from the pin, really got me going today. Another score of five-under would be great in round two but I’ll just focus on sticking to my game plan.

“I found my rhythm at the back end of 2015 with a win and a runner-up finish on the Asian Tour. So far 2016 has been up and down with just a couple of decent finishes. I feel I’m playing well at the moment but the results haven’t been there for me. It’s now a matter of trusting my game plan and putting together four good rounds,” added Chiragh.

Ashbeer Saini, on the road to recovery from a wrist injury, produced his best round of the season thanks to some brilliant putting to share the second spot with Chiragh. Saini drained three putts from a range of 15 to 30 feet including a 20-footer for eagle on the closing ninth.

Gaganjeet Bhullar, playing at the Oxford Golf Resort after five years, had a four-under-68 to show for his opening day effort. He occupied fourth place.

Aditya Bhandarkar was the highest-placed among the Pune-based professionals in the field. Bhandarkar fired a 69 to share fifth place with Sri Lankan Anura Rohana, R Murthy of Bengaluru, Greater Noida’s Mandeo Singh Pathania, Delhi’s Veer Ahlawat and the Chandigarh duo of Gurbaaz Mann and Ranjit Singh.

Pune golfer Pravin Pathare was a further shot back in tied 12th along with eight others.

‘LOVE GAMES’ PROMOTIONS IN DELHI

GAURAV_ARORA__PATRALEKHA__VIKRAM_BHATT__MAHESH_BHATT__TARA_ALISHA_BERRY
The sexilicious teasers and trailers of the upcoming film ‘Love Games’ has been all the rage online and recently the makers and the starcast landed to Delhi for the promotions in the city.
Written and directed by Vikram Bhatt, the film is presented by T-Series and Mahesh Bhatt. Produced by Mukesh Bhatt & T-Series, ‘Love Games’ stars Gaurav Arora, Tara Alisha Berry and Patralekha and is slated to release on 8th April, 2016.
From spilling the bedroom secrets of high society to some sensually shot threesome, the film has been grabbing eyeballs for its bold content ever since its trailer got released.
Vikram Bhatt apart from wearing a director’s hat has also turned lyricist with the film and all the English tracks have been penned down by him. Asked about the same, he said “There are 13 songs in the film and when you’ll watch it, you will realise that they are used as a part of the narrative in the film and it will give you the feeling as if you are watching a Hollywood movie”
Patralekha who underwent a sea-change in her image from her first film ‘Citylights’ to ‘Love Games’  said “I was jobless after Citylights but I want to thank Vikram sir for such a transformation in my image and offering me a film. People will now see my other side of the personality”
With high dose of boldness, the film seems to have raised the bar in Bollywood when it comes to onscreen sex with its characters unapologetic about their sex lives and even experimenting with ideas that haven’t been explored much on the big screen.
As for the much-talked about and viewed erotic threesome sequence in the film, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt feels the attitude of the Indian audience has changed a lot over the years and they are only playing on people’s fantasies.
Tara Alisha Berry has done few Telugu and Hindi films before getting big break from Vishesh Films and seems to be quite happy about her role “I was shy in the beginning but I consider Vikram sir as my idol. He literally hammered my thoughts and as a result I have become more bold which isn’t bad at all“
Newbie Gaurav Arora too added by saying “When Jism was made people didn’t accept the content but later copied the same. I think that’s gonna happen with Love Games too as such a reality has not been portrayed before in Hindi cinema and people will follow the concept and story in the coming years”

DOCUMENTARY SCREENING  – ‘Tehri 2015 – Ten Years of Injustice’

BOOK RELEASE – ‘Why Dams?’
9th APRIL 2016
4:00pm – 6:00pm
Deputy Chairman Hall , Constitution Club of India,
Rafi Marg (near Patel Chowk metro station), New Delhi
Dear Friends,
Greetings

National Alliance of People’s Movements (NAPM) and Delhi Solidarity Group invite you to the premiere of the documentary ‘Tehri – 2015 – The 10 years of Injustice’directed by Vimal bhai. The film is a testimony to the human and ecological crisis that has emerged in the Himalayan region after the construction of dams such as Tehri which have ruined the lives and livelihoods of local communities and caused irreparable damage to the environment. The documentary speaks of Tehri dam’s history of illegal and forced land acquisitions, violations of environmental safety norms and unfair rehabilitation of displaced families that are still seeking justice even after 10 years of its commissioning. The film is a witness to the dam’s devastating impact on people’s lives.
Along with screening of this powerful documentary another work of Vimal bhai – a Hindi booklet titled ‘Why Dams?’ – will be released for the larger audience. The booklet has been published by NAPM and documents years of work done in dam affected regions of Uttarakhand. The book discusses the environmental degradation, displacement and loss of livelihoods of the people in Uttarakhand owing to building of large dams. Complementary to the documentary this booklet reflects on the worsening state of environment and people in Uttarakhand.
About the Film maker:
An environmental and social activist working in the field since 1987, Vimal Bhai is not what one would call a quintessential film maker. With a vast experience garnered over the years through active involvement with issues such as communalism, dam displacement, environmental law violations and rehabilitation, Vimal Bhai is today considered to be one of the stalwarts in this field. His initial foray into this field took place while working as a volunteer at the Gandhi Hindustani Sahitya Sabha with senior Gandhian activists Veena Handa and Indu Behen. It is here that he got an opportunity to work with the veteran environmentalist Sunder Lal Bahuguna, who introduced him to the Tehri Dam struggle. He draws insipiration from Medha Patkar, to whom he credits his knowledge and proficiency on people’s movements. He believes that in order to achieve a society which is self-reliant on the basis of equality and equity one must challenge the larger developmental issues.
Apart from Tehri, he is also actively engaged with the on – going struggles in Ganga and Yamuna Valley for the preservation of the ecologically important environment. In his journey, one of his biggest achievement is the formation of National Green Tribunal through one of his case challenging environment clearance of Loharinag – Pala HEP on Ganga. He has penned down 18 books regarding dam issues and also contributes to newspapers, magazines and journals regularly. He is associated with the Matu Jan Sangathan, an organization working in the Himalayas on the issue of displacement.
