Nagaon, Assam, 5th January 2016: The opening day of the 6th Hockey India Sub Junior Women National Championship 2016 (B division) saw the teams looking to open the tournament on a high. The first match between Hockey Gujarat and Assam Hockey saw the later registering a convincing win by 2-4. The second game was a hard fought match between Citizen Hockey XI and Mumbai School Sports Association which ended in a win for the former by a score line of 1-0. The last match of the day between The Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd and Hockey Madhya Pradesh ended in a draw with both the teams scoring a goal each.
The Pool B match between Hockey Gujarat and Assam Hockey started with an aggressive approach by the Gujarat team who took the lead in the 20th minute in the first half and maintained the lead till the end of the first half. The second half witnessed the Assam team coming out of their shell and attacking with full strength and soon scoring a goal in the 44th minute. They continued their dominance throughout the second half scoring 3 more goals. The Gujarat team scored a consolation goal in the 60th minute before the match ended with Assam taking the game 2-4.
The second clash of the day between Citizen Hockey XI and Mumbai School Sports Association in Pool A was an example of tight defensive tactics by both the teams. The only goal of the match came in the 37th minute from the stick of Namoni Pariya. The former finally went on to take the game 1-0.
The final game of the day was a neck to neck competition in Pool C between The Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd and Hockey Madhya Pradesh. The first half was saw opportunities being created by both the teams. The first team to grab the opportunity was Hockey Madhya Pradesh who converted a penalty corner awarded to them in the 14th minute via Renu Pasi. Mumbai Hockey Association pressed hard and soon got rewarded for their aggression with a field goal from Vaishnavi Rane in the 34th minute. The second half was display of good defence by both the teams and the match ended in 1-1 draw.
