At least 35 war prisoners from each side of the conflict in Ukraine were freed Saturday on neutral territory near the city of Lugansk. Thirty-five people were freed by the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DNR), its spokesperson told Ria Novosti. In return, they received at least the same number of prisoners from Kiev. More prisoners might be exchanged on Saturday, the DNR spokesperson said, adding that one Kiev serviceman had refused to go back. The Lugansk militia also reportedly planned to conduct a prisoner swap with the government.

The chief minister has directed the department of home to immediately institute an inquiry under the District Magistrate (East Delhi) to ascertain the circumstances and the reasons which led to the shameful crime against this woman victim, who was also reportedly pushed out of the moving car and thrown on the road by the accused, after the crime had been committed.

The Delhi government is committed to ensure safety of women in the national capital and will not tolerate crimes against women. The state government will adopt a policy of zero tolerance on crimes against women and will not allow any laxity on the part of those responsible for maintaining the law and order.
Roads of Delhi cannot be allowed to become centres of crime particularly at night hours and the state government is ready to fully cooperate with the Delhi Police for making the national capital safe and crime-free, but crimes against women are totally unacceptable.
The Delhi government wants the inquiry to cover all aspects including the state of night patrolling and whether window panes of the car in which the crime was committed adhered to legal visibility norms.

Chawrasia firm favourite heading into final day of Indian Open 2015

22 02 2015

Nearest challenger Siddikur two shots behind

New Delhi, February 21, 2015: India’s SSP Chawrasia is staring at his maiden Indian Open title and thrid European Tour win as he heads into the final round of the Indian Open 2015 with a two-shot lead. Chawrasia carded a two-under-69 in round three at the Delhi Golf Club to take his total to 12-under-201. SSP';s nearest challenger on the final day will be PGTI member and defending champion Md Siddikur Rahman of Bangladesh who ended day three with a 10-under-203 total thanks to his third round effort of one-under-70.
SSP Chawrasia (65-67-69), the overnight leader by one shot, had a brilliant start on day three as he birdied the first two holes from four feet and 12 feet respectively. The 36-year-old, who posted bogey-free rounds on the first two days, kept a firm grip on the lead with pars on the next 10 holes. He cemented his place at the top with another birdie on the 13th after he landed his approach within four feet of the pin.
SSP enjoyed a stroke of luck to stay in the lead when his tee shot on the eighth hole, which was headed into the jungle, bounced off a tree branch onto the fairway. He also saved a crucial par on 16 from thick rough.
Just as Chawrasia looked all set to go bogey-free for the third straight day, a poor tee shot followed by a missed chip-putt on the 17th resulted in his first bogey of the tournament.
Chawrasia said, “I feel great. I missed a few putts but I’m still happy. I missed my eight-iron on the 17th hole or else, I would have still been bogey-free. My tee shot on the 16th landed in the trees but it wasn’t as bad as it looked. I hit a low shot and I was able to save par.
“I want to think and play positive on the final day. The final round is always special so I will play aggressively. The wind changed today and it was totally different from the last two days. I just kept playing low ball flights.

“I played my own game and didn’t bother too much about the leaderboard. That’s how I play. If anyone is coming close, let them. I just want to focus on my own game. Even if I am disappointed with a shot, I try not to show it and stay calm on the outside.”

Defending champion Md Siddikur Rahman (65-68-70) stayed in touch with the leader as a result of his birdies on the first and 13th. Siddikur, the first Bangladeshi to play and win on the Asian Tour, then double bogeyed the 15th from the trees but holed a close range birdie on 18 to stay in the hunt to win back-to-back Indian Open titles.

Siddikur said, “It was a good day. I had a nice rhythm and picked up a couple of shots until the double bogey. But I managed to recover well and made a great par save on 17 and then managed to birdie the last. Overall, I’m happy with one-under today. The birdie on the closing hole was very crucial.

“Anything can happen in this game. I’m looking forward to round four and hopefully I can play the way I did on Thursday.

“I tried not to think too much about what SSP was doing today. I tried to focus on my own game and looked at hitting maximum greens in regulation and making some birdie putts.”

Anirban Lahiri (73-65-70), who was overnight tied seventh, moved up one place to tied sixth as he posted a 70 in round three. Lahiri looked in fine form as he mounted a charge on the front-nine with four birdies against a lone bogey. The highest-ranked Indian in the world then lost momentum with a bogey on the 10th and a double-bogey on the 13th where he lost his ball in the jungle on the 13th. Anirban managed to pull one shot back with a birdie on the 16th.

The Indian trio of Chikkarangappa (68), Jeev Milkha Singh (68) and Jyoti Randhawa (69) were in tied 21st place at one-under-212.

Mukesh Kumar, Chiragh Kumar, Manav Jaini and Angad Cheema occupied tied 32nd place at even-par-213.

Kapil Kumar, Rashid Khan and Shubhankar Sharma were a further shot back in joint 38th position.

Amardip Sinh Malik, Shiv Kapur and Arjun Atwal were tied 50th at two-over-215 while Om Prakash Chouhan was in tied 64th place at four-over-217.

No Compromise on Demand for Repeal of Land Ordinance

22 02 2015

Land Ordinance is Anti Farmer, Government Engaging in Propaganda
Land Ordinance to Impact Food Security Adversely
New Delhi, February 22 : Several news papers have reported that NDA government is rethinking the Land Ordinance before the crucial Budget Session starting tomorrow. We would like to reiterate that “the Land Ordinance 2014 has to be withdrawn”. There is no question of any compromise on this issue. The Land Ordinance takes away safeguards offered to the farmers and project affected families by removing the key provisions of “consent” and “social impact assessment”.
The government is engaging in false propaganda that the new Land Ordinance is beneficial to farmers and is necessary for the creation of the rural infrastructure like supplying drinking water, electricity and building of the roads and houses for poor people. The evidence suggests otherwise though.
  1. Time and again it has been reported that the Land Ordinance has been brought to provide boost to PM';s flagship programme “Make In India”. It has also been promulgated to remove supposedly billions of dollars investment stuck due to land related problems.
  2. None of the State governments or Central government attempted at acquiring land using the 2013 Land Act even then the Land Ordinance was brought in based on false fears of delays and cumbersome nature of land acquisition raised.
  3. 2013 Act was a result of the consensus developed over a period of nearly 30 years then what has been the urgency to bring in an ordinance without consulting anyone ?
  4. The extension of the provisions of compensation to 13 other Acts is a good step but compensation was not the only issue at large number of land conflicts. The provisions of the consent and social impact assessment are the soul of the new Act, without that it goes back to 1894 Act.
  5. Land Ordinance will seriously impact the food security of the country, since it will allow acquisition of the multi crop land at a fast pace.
Risk to Food Security
India’s total cultivable land at present is 179.9 million hectares which supports 17% of world’s human population. In 2011-12 Indian farmers produced 259.29 million tonnes of food grain still 925 million in the country are affected by hunger and malnutrition. We are the 2nd most malnourished country in the world. Government has projected that from its current share of 13% contribution to GDP it will be reduce to a meager 6% of GDP by 2030, are we going to provide jobs to so many of those ?
As per agriculture census 2010-11, 52% of India’s labour force is dependent on agriculture however, instead of encouragement, since 1995, 3 lakh farmers have committed suicide and 2,358 main worker cultivators quit agriculture daily [Main worker cultivator – Minimum 180 days a year farm work]. The number of main worker cultivators was rising till 1991. After that, between 1991 – 2001 it fell by 7.2 million and between 2001 – 2011 declined by 7.7 million
In 20 years, 15 million main worker cultivators have stopped farming. Add to it millions of marginal farmers. The cost of practising agriculture is rising, on an average monthly income of Rs 2115 per household a monthly expenditure of Rs 2700 is borne by Indian farmers, what is government doing for the agrarian crisis ?
The land ordinance is not about welfare of farmers but about serving corporate interests. NDA government has only been launching schemes for the corporates and private businesses but nothing of significance for farm sector and farmers.

February21, 2015 (C) Ravinder Singh ravinderinvent@gmail.com
When the GOI own stats show 37.46% lower imports in the month of January2015 or $5b lesser expenditure on Crude Oil Imports in just one month is annualized savings of $60b to $65b or nearly Rs.400,000 crores at input to Refineries Level – difference could more at Retail Level.
Even if we assume 37.46% drop in RETAIL prices the difference is Rs.26 per liter but actual reduction is barely 13% to 15% or Rs.10 per liter.
But 22% difference in Petroleum Prices no passed on to Consumers resulted in $13.187b or $3b per month.
