National Women Boxing Championships

National Women Boxing Championships conclude in Bhopal; Mary Kom adjudged Best Boxer
The 12th Senior National Women Boxing Championships concluded in Bhopal on Sunday. AIR Bhopal correspondent reports that five time World Champion M C Mary Kom of Manipur was adjudged as the Best Boxer.

 Mary Kom defeated Pinky Jangra of Haryana 13-9 in her final bout of Fly 51 kilogram category. She dominated in all her bouts played during the Championship and clinched title of the best boxer.

World Youth Champion Sarjubala Devi of Manipur defeated Krishna Thapa of host Madhya Pradesh 36-34 in Fly 48 kilogram category. A total of ten final bouts were played in different weight categories. Suman, Kavita Chahal and Neetu Chahal of Haryana and Mandkini Chann of All India Police also won gold in their respective categories.

Other women boxers who clinched gold included Meena Rani and Aswathi Mol CV of Railways Sports Promotion Board, Kavita Goyat of Delhi and Jenny RL of Mizoram.

Civic polls in Tamil Nadu rest Protest against koodankulam Nuclear Plant

The week-long protest against Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant was suspended for two days on Sunday in view of the civic polls in Tamil Nadu. Addressing the protesters in Idinthakarai, their leaders announced that the suspension of the second phase of the stir with immediate effect. They said the suspension was to enable residents of Idinthakarai and nearby villages to exercise their franchise in the two-phase local body elections being held on Monday.

Earlier, officials said around 100 employees of the Emergency services wing were stranded since Saturday as their relievers could not enter the complex due to the blockade by the protestors.
