Council for Self Regulation by Media on Anvil :Ambika Soni

Ambika Soni Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting informed here today that a Council for Self Regulation by Media was the only way forward for maintaining the credibility of media:Council for the purpose was on anvil which she felt was the most intelligent and independent method of regulation while maintaining the freedom of press. Smt. Soni was speaking on the occasion of the 7th State Annual Meet of the Chandigarh Punjab Union of Journalists (CPUJ) held at Law Bhawan in Chandigarh on Sunday.
Council, the Minister informed, would comprise a Chairman, who would either be a retired Chief Justice of the High Court or a retired Justice of the Supreme Court and 12 other members consisting of four members of the broadcasters, four representatives of the civil society and one representative each from the National Commission for Women, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, National Commission for Schedules Caste and Scheduled Tribes and fourthly a representative of the National Commission of the affected party.
