VHP SENT LETTER TO PM AGAINST BEEF EXPORT

VHP SENT LETTER TO PM AGAINST BEEF EXPORT

New Delhi Feb 17, 2012. Annoyed by the union agriculture ministry’s
proposal to planning commission to lift ban on beef export, Vishwa
Hindu Parishad(VHP) sent a letter to the prime minister Dr Manmohan
Singh seeking immediate rejection of the recommendations made therein.
The letter signed by the senior adviser shri Ashok Singhal, vice
president shri Omprakash Singhal & the int’l secretary general of the
organization shri Champat Rai has also been sent to the deputy
chairman of the planning commission shri Montek Singh Ahluwalia.
Terming the recommendation shameless, mindless, audacious & sad, VHP
wrote that it is a hostility perpetrated against the Dharmic,
spiritual, holistic, altruistic and syncretic worldview of the
country.
It is to note that the GOI Working Group on Animal Husbandry &
Dairying for 12th Five Year Plan (2012-17) has submitted a report to
the Planning Commission, Government of India. The Report, audaciously
asking for permission, reads: “There is an existing Ban on beef
exports; therefore it is necessary to revise the EXIM policy to allow
beef export…” vide Paragraph 12.3.1 under Chapter 12 - Meat and
Abattoirs.
According to shri Vinod Bansal, the media chief of VHP Delhi we have
reminded the PM an the deputy chairman-Planning Commission that A
cow’s person is revered as hosting millions of deities. Elaborating
the importance of Cow and its progeny for the causes of both Green and
White Revolution, VHP said that the Mother Cow is a complete ecology
that holds in the heart and ethos of Hindustan. Our history is full of
sacrifices made by people, saints & sages for its protection,
preservation and promotion. The good of “Gow, Garib and Dharma” has
also been the triple agenda of the entire Sikh history, especially the
Khalsa history led by Guru Gobind Singhji Maharaj.
Giving reference of the DIRECTIVE PRINCIPLES OF STATE POLICY under
ARTICLE 48 of the constitution VHP said that it is the duty of the
state to “…take steps for preserving and improving the breeds, and
prohibiting the slaughter, of cows and calves and other milch and
draught cattle.” VHP also referred article 48A & 51A of the
constitution alongwith supreme court decision dated 26.10.2005 in
Civil Appeals No. 4937-4940 of 1998 State of Gujrat & other Vs
Mirzapur Moti Kureshi Kassab Jamat & others in this regard. Even some
Mughal rulers made cow slaughter a punishable offence and many
Sant-Mahatmas and Gobhaktas (Cow Devotees) have sacrificed their lives
for the cause of cow protection, the letter added. Hindus lead by
Saints may come on the roads if the Govt do not forthwith withdraw the
recommendations, VHP said.

GATEFORUM launches eGATE to provide Live Classes for GATE aspirants
More than 7 lakh students participate in GATE 2012

New Delhi February 17, 2012: GATEFORUM, an established player in preparation for the prestigious Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) has today announced the launch of EGATE for the benefit of students who are preparing for the GATE exams.

GATE is the second largest qualifying exam in the technical side, after AIEEE, with 5.5 lakh test takers in GATE 2011 and more than 7 lakh test takers for GATE 2012.

GATE is the qualifying exam for admission to ME/M.Tech/M.S courses in various institutes in India like the IISc, IITs, NITs, Government Engineering Colleges and also private engineering colleges. Many top notch PSUs like BHEL, NTPC, IOCL have adapted GATE as the qualifying exam for filling up their vacancies. GATE is an All India Examination conducted by the seven Indian Institutes of Technology and the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore on behalf of the National Coordination Board - GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD),the Government of India.

Speaking on the launch of eGATE, Mr. Abhijit Chaudhari, Director GATEFORUM said, “We feel that with the introduction of eGATE, which is essentially live classes through the internet, it would be easier for the aspirants to avail the technical training from their respective cities. Currently it’s being observed that aspirants from the State have increased to nearly 45,000 this year and we can attribute it to the growing craze for jobs in the Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) that have made GATE mandatory for their technical jobs. In such a scenario our product, eGATE, would be a boon for the students who aim to clear GATE successfully”.

GATE is a vast but highly fragmented market. Unlike the CAT, where the bulk of the aspirants come from the metros and bigger cities, GATE aspirants come from a wide variety of small and big towns. Also, the syllabus and training involved is complex, which makes quality classroom coaching inaccessible in many places.

Also present on the occasion, Mr. Chandan Kumar Jha Director, GATEFORUM said, “GATE Test is not only for admission to M.Tech courses, but an entry platform for PSU Jobs. We have observed over the time that many of the aspirants in Tier II & III cities are deprived of quality coaching and training due to inaccessibility of resources. Through eGATE we aim to fill up this huge gap and bring opportunities for candidates to apply for technical and public sector jobs. Today candidates are now tested for both core skills and the general aptitude, which was not the case earlier. Hence more emphasis should be to provide quality study materials to the Candidates. Thus, for the benefit of students in far flung areas and also those in the larger towns who find urban commuting stressful and inconvenient, GATEFORUM is launching eGATE.

eGATE is essentially live classes, via internet, with two way interaction between the faculty and the students. The faculty will conduct the lectures from GATEFORUM studios in Hyderabad and a GATE aspirant can access them from any via the internet or can come to a GATEFORUM center and view them on a big screen. With eGATE, we want to ensure that a GATE aspirant in any part of the country gets the highest quality of training at his or her convenience, added Mr. Jha

GATEFORUM, promoted by alumni of the IIMs and IITs, is the largest organization in the field of GATE training, with a presence in more than 45 cities. Currently GATEFORUM offers various preparatory tools for GATE aspirants like Classroom Coaching (ICP), Correspondence/Self study Course (DLP), All India test series (TarGATE) and Online test series.

Iran Pak discuss gas-pipeline project amid US pressure

Zardari, Ahmadinejad discuss gas project amid US pressure

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Thursday discussed ways to deepen ties and a bilateral gas pipeline project that has come under a cloud following sanctions imposed on Tehran by Western powers.

Zardari and Ahmadinejad held one-on-one and delegation-level talks shortly after the Iranian leader arrived in Islamabad for bilateral talks and a trilateral summit with Afghanistan.
Zardari and Ahmadinejad on Thursday discussed progress on the multi-billion dollar Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project that is aimed at helping Islamabad overcome an energy shortfall due to rapidly growing domestic and industrial needs, officials said. They did not give details.
The officials said the talks between Zardari and Ahmadinejad focussed on political and economic cooperation and measures to strengthen bilateral ties.
The two leaders initially held one-on-one talks and were later joined by their respective delegations for comprehensive talks covering all areas of cooperation, the officials said.
Pakistan has said it is committed to the early implementation of the troubled gas pipeline project with Iran.
Questions have been raised about the viability of the project following sanctions imposed on Iran by Western powers over its nuclear programme.
The US has mounted pressure on Pakistan not to go ahead with the gas pipeline project.
Ahmadinejad arrived in Islamabad shortly after Afghan President Hamid Karzai flew in with a high-level delegation.
Karzai held talks with Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.
The Presidents of Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan will hold two sessions as part of their trilateral summit, one Thursday evening and another on Friday.

Iran has new centrifuges, nuclear fuel plates

Iran has new centrifuges, nuclear fuel plates

Iranian state television reported on Wednesday that Iran has made advances in its nuclear program, building new uranium enrichment centrifuges and producing its own nuclear reactor fuel plates.
The announcement, to be confirmed by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad later Wednesday, was likely to further unsettle the United States and allies who believe Iran is also forging ahead with atomic weapon development.
Iran has developed “fourth generation centrifuges” made of carbon fibre that are “speedier, produce less waste and occupy less space” as they spin at supersonic speeds to purify uranium, state television reported, citing Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization.
Iran also created its own 20-per-cent fuel plates for a research reactor in Tehran whose stock of fuel sourced from Argentina in the 1990s is running low, the report said.
The television also said that Iran had made progress in 20 per cent uranium enrichment at its Natanz facility, beyond enrichment activities already underway there.
Iran insists its nuclear program is for exclusively peaceful, civilian purposes.
Israel and the United States have left the option open to conduct military strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities if the Islamic republic does not reduce or halt its nuclear program.
Unprecedentedly tough U.S. and European Union economic sanctions have been imposed on Iran in recent weeks and months to push for that goal.
But Iran has brushed those off, saying it will not cede its “rights” to nuclear energy.
It has begun uranium enrichment operations in a fortified bunker in Fordo, near its holy city of Qom.
Wednesday’s announcement of further progress showed its determination to defy Western pressure and four rounds of UN sanctions.
Western analysts had previously cast doubt on Iran’s technical ability to create the 20-per cent enriched fuel plates needed for the Tehran reactor.
The UN nuclear watchdog expressed strong suspicions in November that Iran’s program had a military component.
It is to send a high-level delegation back to Iran next week to discuss concerns, following inconclusive talks in Tehran late last month.

Incredible India Campaign I&B and Tourism Ink MoU

Incredible India Campaign to be Promoted Through Cinemas of India Ministry of I&B and Tourism Sign Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) MoU to Promote “India as Filming Destination”
In a major initiative to promote the ‘Incredible India Campaign’ and Cinemas of India as a sub brand of Incredible India at various international film festivals and markets abroad, the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and Ministry of Tourism today signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The MoU is expected to enhance the reach of “Incredible India” through the Medium of Cinema, develop synergy between tourism and film industry and provide a platform for enabling partnerships between the Indian and global film industry. The MoU was signed in the presence of Smt. Ambika Soni, Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Shri Subodh Kant Sahay, Minister of Tourism and Minister of State for Tourism, Shri Sultan Ahmed.
The MoU signed today between the two ministries, aims to create and build upon a Film Tourism vertical of Incredible India Campaign by promoting Cinemas of India as a sub-brand of Incredible India. The emphasis will be on its linguistic/cultural/regional diversity. The MoU will also provide an impetus to frame policies and guidelines for facilitating shooting of International films in India and promote India as a filming destination, both for international and domestic film producers. Another key objective of the MoU seeks to to initiate dialogue with State Governments and UTs within India for development of locations for film shootings and promotion of tourism. At the institutional level, the MoU attempts to constitute a National Level Committee for coordination with various stakeholders for promotion of India as a film and tourism destination and for facilitating visas for films units from overseas. On some of the key aspects, the roadmap will be charted out through mutual consultations between the two ministries.
As per the MoU, the Ministry of Tourism would provide budgetary support for identified film festivals, markets and events. The Ministry would facilitate publicity through the available content based on existing audio visual material and print designs. The joint participation of the two ministries would cover the Cannes Film Festival and Market, IFFI Goa including the Film Festival and Film Bazaar and European Film Market at Berlin.
The MoU reiterates the branding of ‘Incredible India’ at critical outreach positions at the identified film festivals markets and events. This includes the display of the logo of Incredible India, including display through wall hoardings, stalls and the screening of the promotional film.
It is expected that this innovative partnership will facilitate the promotion of India as a filming destination for foreign producers. In 2009-10, 23 permissions were granted for shooting in India, in 2010-11, 21 permissions were granted and in 2011-12, 20 permissions were granted. The MoU is expected to also enable the increase of India’s share in world tourist arrivals in the country from 0.6% to 1.0 % by the end of XII Five Year Plan. This would result in achieving 11.37 million foreign tourist arrivals by 2016, as compared to 6.29 million foreign tourist arrivals in 2011.

Hezbollah denies any role of attacks on Israeli diplomats

BEIRUT. Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah on Thursday denied his Lebanese militant party had any role in a series of attacks on Israeli diplomats.

"Regarding the explosions that took place in India, Georgia and Thailand, I can tell you categorically that Hezbollah has nothing to do" with them, he said in a televised address.

Nasrallah said Hezbollah would find other ways to take revenge for the killing of top Hezbollah militants Imad Mughniyeh on February 12, 2008, in the speech marking that occasion."Our revenge will not (be) against soldiers and Israeli diplomats or ordinary Israelis," said the Hezbollah chief, without elaborating.

"The day will come when we shall avenge Imad Mughniyeh with honour," he said.Israel has accused Iran of being behind the attacks, a charge the Islamic republic promptly denied.Thai police said that Israeli diplomats were the intended target of a failed bomb attack in Bangkok on Tuesday, a day after attacks on Israeli embassy staff in India and Georgia.

The Jerusalem Post on Thursday linked a Hezbollah-Iranian "terror" cell to another plot to assassinate Israel's defence minister in Singapore, but the report was denied by police in the Asian city-state.

Bangkok has been on alert since mid January when police arrested a Lebanese man with alleged links to Hezbollah on suspicion he was planning an attack, following a US warning that tourists might be targeted.
