Avior Airlines banned from EU skies
Venezuela’s Avior Airlines has been banned from European Union skies after a commission determined it no longer meets international safety standards.
The European Commission announced that Avior had been added to a list of international airlines prohibited from flying within the union because the European Aviation Safety Agency detected unaddressed safety deficiencies.
The Venezuelan airline is one of a handful still offering international flight destinations as major carriers like United and Delta halt operations in the crisis-ridden nation.
NGT holds Art of Living responsible for damaging Yamuna banks
National Green Tribunal today held the Art of Living Foundation of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar responsible for the damage caused to the Yamuna floodplains due to holding of the World Cultural Festival organised by it in March 2016.
A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar, however, refused to impose any further environment compensation on the AoL and said the amount of Rs 5 crore which was submitted by it earlier would be used for the restoration of the floodplains.
“We hold AoL responsible for the damage caused to the Yamuna floodplains in terms of the report submitted by the expert committee,” the bench said.
The bench also comprising Justice Jawad Rahim and expert member B S Sajwan directed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to assess the damage caused on floodplains and compute cost of restoration in line with the recommendations of the expert panel. The tribunal said that in case if the expenditure of the restoration crosses the cost Rs 5 crore then it would be recovered from the AoL. However, if the costs is less than Rs 5 crore, the remaining amount would be refunded to the foundation, it said.

However, it refused to decide whether AoL was authorised to hold the festival on Yamuna floodplains or not saying it is beyond its jurisdiction. The NGT also rapped the DDA for failing to exercise its duty to protect the Yamuna floodplains but refrained from imposing any penalty on it.
Before the pronouncement of the judgement, it was informed that Justice R S Rathore, who had earlier heard the matter had recused from the bench.

US asks Israel to restrain response to Jerusalem move
US has asked Israel to temper its response to the recognition of Jerusalem as its capital, as Washington expects a backlash and is weighing the potential threat to US facilities and people.
State Department yesterday issued a document for diplomats at the US Embassy in Tel Aviv asking them to convey Israeli officials to restrain their official response. The document also stated that Washington expects that there to be resistance to this news in the Middle East and around the world.
The State Department also issued another document yesterday stating that they had formed an internal task force to track worldwide developments following the decision on Jerusalem.
United Nations Security Council has convened a meeting tomorrow in the wake of the US President Donald Trump announcing his decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
At least eight of the 15 members of the Security Council, including Britain and France, the two permanent members which closely align themselves on most of the global issues joined by other non-permanent members — Bolivia, Egypt, Italy, Senegal, Sweden, Britain and Uruguay asked for a special meeting of the top decision-making wing of the New York-headquartered world body.
The UN Secretary General António Guterres’ is expected to address the Security Council on Friday.
CG Open 2017: Mithun Perera best
Mithun Perera fires six-under-64 to take the opening round honours at CG Open 2017, Local lad Anil Bajrang Mane shares second with Aman Raj and Vikram Rana, Hole-in-one for Arjun Sharma
Mumbai, December 6, 2017: Sri Lankan Mithun Perera’s classy six-under-64 gave him the opening round honours at the 10th edition of the CG Open being played at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club in Mumbai.
Mumbai’s leading golfer Anil Bajrang Mane too had a terrific start to the week as he carded a five-under-65 to be placed joint second along with Patna’s Aman Raj and Delhi-based Vikram Rana.
Mithun Perera returned to one of his favourite venues in style making 17 greens in regulation and eight birdies. He was off to a flying start with birdies on his first three holes, the 10th, 11thand 12th. The 30-year-old, a winner of five individual titles on the PGTI, then stumbled with a couple of three-putt bogeys on the 13th and 17th.
Perera got his round back on track by picking up three more stokes over the next five holes. He finally ended the day with a flourish, sinking birdie putts from a range of 20 to 25 feet on the seventh and eighth.
Mithun said, “I enjoyed a brilliant start making some tricky birdie conversions early on. That lifted my confidence. I’m also glad that I finished the round well with some long birdie putts on the eighth and ninth. Importantly, I found all fairways today and missed regulation on just one hole. This puts me in a good frame of mind for the remainder of the week.
“I’m looking to end a long victory-drought since my last win on the PGTI came in 2014. I’ve played good golf this year but my putting hasn’t been clicking. But over the last three weeks I’ve started hitting more firm putts and that has helped my scores.
“I love coming back to the BPGC as I’ve always done well here. I once held the course record here after shooting an eight-under-62 at the 2014 LP Cup, a team event that I went on to win. This course suits my game as it requires more accuracy rather than distance hitting. Added to this is the fact that my father Nandasena Perera won the All India Amateur here in 1991. As a result, lots of people know me at this club. So I always have a good feeling playing at the BPGC,” added Perera, currently placed 25th in the PGTI Order of Merit with three top-10s from 11 starts.
Local favourite Anil Bajrang Mane put up a display of some exceptional wedge shots during his round of 65. Mane’s round took off after his birdie chip-in on the 16th. The 36-year-old, who began from the 10th tee on Wednesday, accumulated six birdies over 16 holes before dropping his lone bogey on the eighth.
Anil said, “I definitely have the advantage of playing at my home course. I started with a good round at last year’s CG Open as well but couldn’t maintain the tempo till the end. I would like to carry forward the momentum till the last round this year. The BPGC has always supported me so I really want to do well here in front of my home crowd.
“The chip-in on the 16th really got my round going as everything seemed to fall in place thereafter. I made some quality chip-putts and read the lines well. I’m delighted with this effort because I just got in two days of practice in the last two weeks prior to this event due to a foot injury.”
Aman Raj, a runner-up twice this year, made an eagle, four birdies and a bogey during his round of 65 while Vikram Rana posted the same score, making six birdies, including a chip-in on the fourth, against a lone bogey.
The four golfers bunched in tied fifth place at four-under-66 were Noida’s Pradeep Kumar, Delhi-based Veer Ahlawat, veteran Mukesh Kumar of Mhow and Lucknow’s Sanjeev Kumar.
PGTI Order of Merit leader Udayan Mane of Ahmedabad was a further shot back in tied ninth.
Noida’s Arjun Sharma made a hole-in-one on the 10th en route his round of 69 that placed him tied 29th.
Defending champion Shamim Khan of Delhi struck a 70 to be tied 40th.
Among the other Mumbai golfers in the fray, Akash Modi shot a 71 to be tied 55th while Wilson Raj D Mello returned a 72 to be tied 65th.
Sadiq:Trump change views on Islam
London mayor, however, emphasised the need to be peaceful and not resort to violence while protesting the move.
On being questioned whether he would welcome Trump in the UK, Sadiq said that the US president should not have a state visit and that “we shouldn’t roll out a red carpet for him”.
“I’ve been quite clear [about this]; he should not have a state visit. People of London are not his fans. I’ve heard he is visiting London in February, but not on a state visit, so let’s see,” he said.
The London mayor also advised Trump to change his views on Islam and Muslims.
“People say US, UK are best friends,” he said, adding that best friends also call out each other when one is wrong. “So I’m telling US that yes, you’re still my best friend, but you need to change [your stance on Jerusalem].”

Dear Sagar Media Inc,
Our hard earned savings may be in danger! The money you deposit in your bank might be at risk!
The government is tabling a new law in Parliament that will allow a government entity to use depositors money to save a bank on the verge of bankruptcy.
Our hard earned money that we have saved for our children and for our future will be used to ‘Bail-In’ the banks.
This “Bail-in” provision means that say you have 10 lakhs in your account and if the bank is in trouble, it can reduce your 10 lakhs to 1 lakh, and the bank can use the remaining 9 lakhs to save itself.
The bank can also convert your account balance to a fixed deposit, repayable after five years.
Sagar Media Inc, sign my petition and claim rights to your own money.
Our money could be forcibly used to pull out a bank from its financial woes.
And we will not be able to do anything about it. We won’t even be able to challenge that in court!
Sagar Media Inc, Sign this petition now, before this bill is tabledin the winter session of the Parliament next week.
Thank you for your support,
