Five LeT militants, one jawan killed in JK Kupwara



Five militants have been shot dead while an Army jawan laid down his life and four security personnel injured in a fierce gunbattle in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday.

Troops of 18 Rashtriya Rifles and special operation group of local police had launched a search-cum-cordon operation in Maidanpora village in Lolab, in the wee hours on Friday following information about the presence of foreign militants.In an effort to escape the armed forces, the militants had entered the house of local. The army waited for civilians to evacuate before the operation to eliminate the militants began. The operation came to end after 10 long hours.

One army jawan identified as Nayak Sumer Singh from Nagaur district of Rajasthan was killed while another received a bullet injury in his stomach, a police spokesman said. Besides this, four others
including an army captain received minor injuries in the operation.
