Manipur Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of all 60 newly elected MLAs in the Manipur                                                                     2017 Assembly Elections.

Criminal background


·        MLAs with criminal cases:Out of the 60 MLAs analysed, 2(3%) MLAs have declared criminal cases against themselves. Out of 60 MLAs analysed during Manipur Assembly elections in 2012no MLAs had declared criminal cases against themselves.
·         MLAs with serious criminal cases:2(3%) MLAs have declared serious criminal cases including cases related to attempt to murder, criminal intimidation etc.
 ·         MLAs with cases related to murder and attempt to murder 1 MLA namely Soibam Subhachandra of BJP from Naoriya Pakhanglakpa constituency has declared 1 charge related to Attempt to Murder in his affidavit.
·         Party wise MLAs with criminal cases: 1(4%) out of 28 MLAs from INC and 1 (5%) out of 21 MLAs from BJP have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.
·         Party wise MLAs with serious criminal cases: 1(4%) out of 28 MLAs from INC and 1 (5%) out of 21 MLAs from BJP have declaredserious criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.
