AirAsia receives ‘A320 Family Best Operational Excellence’ award from Airbus
22052014
SEPANG, 22 May 2014 – AirAsia’s competence in planning and maximizing utilization of its Airbus A320 aircraft fleet and ensuring top-notch despatch reliability has garnered the ‘A320 Family Best Operational Excellence’ Award from Airbus, at the A320 Family Symposium Kuala Lumpur 2014 yesterday.
AirAsia Group Head of Engineering, Anaz Ahmad Tajuddin attended the symposium and received the award on behalf of the AirAsia Group.
The verdict for the operational excellence award was based on a two-year collection of operational data pertaining to the number of aircraft in the airline’s fleet that are operational, average daily usage, dispatch reliability and the time of flight delays caused by aircraft technical reasons.
AirAsia has performed brilliantly in all these areas, and most notably was its quick turnaround of 25 minutes which displayed the optimum and efficient use of the airline’s fleet of A320s.
It also demonstrates the A320 as a robust aircraft in withstanding LCC operations and AirAsia’s meticulous maintenance of its fleet to ensure continuous flight operations with minimal technical disruptions.
AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes said, “The A320 is the crown jewel of our operations, a reliable and cost-efficient asset most suitable for our LCC operations, enabling us to achieve great operational results. Its brilliant performance is due to the manufacturer’s great understanding of our operational needs and AirAsia engineering’s diligence in ensuring every single aircraft in our fleet are always in the best condition.
“We thank Airbus for the prestigious recognition, a testament to our great efforts in generating high performance while being the world’s lowest cost airline, providing superior operational reliability and customer service. The award also acknowledges the commitment of our Allstars in ensuring constant operational excellence and productivity.”
The A320 single-aisle jetliner family is the world’s best-selling, single-aisle aircraft family. It is used in a full range of services from very short-haul airline routes to intercontinental segments.*
AirAsia stamps its dominance in Asia with a record total of 475 single aisle A320s and A320neos on order with Airbus.
Didier Lux, Head of Airbus Customer Services said: “We are proud of being part of AirAsia’s success with our great A320 Family product and our efficient support teams. We congratulate AirAsia for its excellent performance with the A320 Family in service. This demonstrates that it is possible to combine a very fast growth, stringent LCC operation with high aircraft utilization and an impressive dispatch reliability performance. We look forward to continuing the successful cooperative with AirAsia in the future with many more aircraft in the fleet.”
AirAsia is also the world’s first airline which took delivery of an Airbus A320 aircraft installed with Sharklet wing tips, becoming the first operator of the new fuel-saving large wing tip devices and the world’s first operator outside of China of a fully-assembled Airbus A320 aircraft from Tianjin, China.
The airline group partners with world renowned maintenance providers to ensure that its fleet is always performing in the safe and best requirements.
At present, the AirAsia Group operates 158 Airbus A320s and services the most extensive network with 88 destinations.
