Putin slams sanctions

13092014
Russian President Vladimir Putin has harshly criticized fresh sanctions imposed by the European Union and the United States over the situation in Ukraine. Putin, visiting the former Soviet republic of Tajikistan on Friday, told reporters the sanctions had been imposed when the situation in Ukraine was moving towards a peaceful resolution. He said the possibility of a political resolution had existed. He claimed the sanctions are aimed at disrupting the peace process.
The European Union and the United States imposed additional sanctions against Russia’s biggest firms on Friday. They barred government-affiliated oil companies from raising capital on their markets.
Putin said Ukraine is being used as a tool for the US strategy of reviving NATO and strengthening its solidarity with satellite countries. He said Western nations are not trying to serve the interests of Ukraine.
Putin also said he is ready to take retaliatory measures. He said his government is looking only at actions that will not harm Russia’s economic interests.United States has announced more sanctions against Russia to pressure the country to observe a truce in Ukraine. US officials on Friday revealed plans to target Russia’s security, financing and energy sectors on the grounds that Moscow continues to destabilize eastern Ukraine.
The US will restrict access to US markets by major Russian arms maker Rostec. It appears set to freeze the assets of 5 defense-related enterprises.
Washington had barred Russia’s largest bank Sberbank from receiving US equity financing. It will also ban exports of technology and equipment for the production of crude oil by 5 Russian oil firms, including Gazprom in Arctic offshore and shale projects.
Tension remains high in Ukraine after the government and pro-Russian separatists agreed to a truce last week. However, sporadic fighting has continued in some areas.
The EU and the US on Friday announced additional sanctions to pressure Russia to cooperate with a fully-binding truce.
US Treasury Secretary Jack Lew released a statement that said the new sanctions will not be imposed if Russia acts to help resolve the conflict.
But he warned that should Russia choose to continue violating international law, the costs for doing so will continue to rise. White House spokesperson Josh Earnest said the Russian economy will surely pay a price after the United States further expanded its sanctions.
Earnest told reporters on Friday that the US and its allies are ready to lift some of the sanctions if Russia abides by a truce reached between Ukraine and pro-Russian separatists.

ASEM finance ministers’ meeting ends

13092014
Finance ministers from the member nations of the Asia-Europe Meeting have agreed on the need to steadily implement sound policies to achieve economic recovery in Europe. The agreement was reached at the ASEM finance ministers’ meeting in Milan, Italy, on Friday.
Delegates from 49 countries issued a statement following their discussions on the recent economic and financial developments in Europe and Asia.
The statement says with global growth remaining fragile and fraught with downside risks, economic recovery in Europe is likely to remain weak in the second half of the year.
It says steady progress in the implementation of sound economic policies is crucial for creating the conditions that lead to stronger growth.
The statement also calls for continued oversight of risks in financial markets, apparently targeting China’s shadow banking and the US Federal Reserve Board’s plan to scale back quantitative easing measures.
Japan was represented by Finance Minister Taro Aso. He reportedly explained the Japanese government’s policy to implement its growth strategies to promote overseas investment by Japanese firms and contribute to the Asian and European economies. Media agencies

Hong Kong Disneyland will showcase a Whole New Light

12092014
Hong Kong Disneyland will showcase a Whole New Light at Nighttime this Coming Fall/Winter
The all-new “Disney Paint the Night” parade beginning in October with a variety of festivities will allow guests the opportunity to experience the Park in a new perspective
Mumbai, September 2014:  From October to December, guests visiting Hong Kong Disneyland at nighttime will see the Park in a whole new light. The brand new “Disney Paint the Night” parade starting from October 1, together with “Disney Haunted Halloween” and “Disney Sparkling Christmas”, will amaze and mesmerize our guests as light creates vibrancy, mystery and romance at the Park.
“Disney Paint the Night”, a first ever fully LED parade created by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, is a state-of-the-art, vibrant wonder that immerses many of our classic Disney and Pixar stories in magical, luminescent worlds. Disney Paint the Night features seven original floats containing over 740,000 individual lights. This fantastical parade will bring to life guests’ favorite Disney and Disney∙Pixar stories in unexpected and thrilling ways, illuminating the whole parade route every night.
New technology with imagination unleashed to wow the guests
“Disney Paint the Night” is composed of seven units of creative floats including Tinker Bell Opening Unit, Monsters Inc. Unit, Cars Unit, The Little Mermaid Unit, Belle Candlelight Unit, Toy Story Unit, Mickey & Friends Finale Unit. In this all new technologically advanced parade, Mickey is going to “paint the night” in dazzling Disney dreams of light, and with the scintillating powers of Tinker Bell’s pixie dust, Mickey and his friends create fantastic visions, which come to “light” the streets of Hong Kong Disneyland. The parade features many beloved Disney and Disney·Pixar characters, and for the first time, we have invited Lightning McQueen, Sulley and Mike to join the parade at Hong Kong Disneyland.
“The creative team spent over 2 years and developed over 1,000 scenic and lighting designs to ensure ‘Disney Paint the Night’ will ‘wow’ our guests in a totally new and innovative way. New technology coupled with unleashed imagination takes this parade to a whole new level and Hong Kong Disneyland guests will enjoy a colorful feast for their eyes.” said David Lightbody, Director of Entertainment and Costuming, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.
From the design of the floats, props, costumes and cosmetology, to the lighting, music and choreography, innovation and strong story telling have driven the creation of “Disney Paint the Night”.
The vibrant lights feature not only on the floats, but also on Disney characters, dancers and props. More than 80 Cast Members per night are involved in presenting this never-seen-before nighttime parade.
Over 25 different styles have been applied in the design and construction of the costumes and many of them have been developed specially for this parade. Each costume has its own very sophisticated system of lighting controls. The team used new technologies in ways that have never been used on costuming before to bring a new perspective to our guests.
The talented Cosmetology team (hair, wigs and make up) at Hong Kong Disneyland has developed a new technique to create fiber optic wigs that can be styled to create a beautiful glowing effect. They also developed exquisite fiber optic eyelashes that can change color which significantly enriches the whole parade performance.
Interactivity allows Guests to immerse themselves in the experience of “Disney Paint the Night”
Interactivity is always a key to enhancing guests’ immersive experiences. There are special magic enabled merchandise items developed for the parade. The Park especially designed the all-new interactive merchandise – “Mickey Magic Paint Brush”which allows guests to interact with performers.
During two show stop moments of “Disney Paint the Night”, guests will be able to “paint the night” with the Paint Brush. It can literally change the colors of the performers’ costumes at the touch of a button. The floats can also ‘talk’ to all other magic-enabled merchandise items, including “Mickey Glow Mitt” and “Minnie Glow Bow” and change the colors of the items to give guests a chance to really become a part of the parade.
The Park has also prepared a series of specialty food and beverage options with a glowing and glittering theme to further complement this latest nighttime experience.
To further celebrate the vibrant spirit of “Disney Paint the Night”, guests can pay a visit to the Tomorrowland Bootique and to be “painted” in luminous make up by our professionals and join the dance party with DJs and an all new illuminated stage performances in the Tomorrowland Party Zone.
Lights of mystery permeate the Park during Haunted Halloween
Featuring an all-new show “Horrors of the Amazon”, “Sideshow Carnival Extraordinaire” and more ominous entertainment offerings, the Haunted Halloween footprint will spread from  Adventureland and seep into many other themed lands. The Aam Aadmi Party has decided all its 27 Delhi MLAs will contribute Rs 20 lakh each for the Kashmir flood relief from their MLA development fund.
The party has decided that all its MLAs will collectively contribute Rs 5.40 crore in the Kashmir relief fund.
The guidelines issued for MLAs in 2012 allow each member to request for releasing upto Rs 35 lakh every year for providing relief to the victims of natural disasters and natural calamities, from their MLA Local Area Development Scheme.
The decision was taken after AAP MLAs expressed concern on the flood situation in Kashmir, where thousands of those marooned have been without food and water, and despite major relief and rescue operations by the armed forces, family members living outside the state have not been able to contact their near and dear ones in the Kashmir valley.
AAP units in different parts of the country are collecting relief material and donations from the public to be sent to the flood affected areas and are in touch with several NGOs engaged in sending relief material.
The party’s Jammu and Kashmir unit has informed there is acute shortage of emergency articles which can be used by flood-hit people ranging for water bottles to packed food items like biscuits and dry milk powder and immediate first aid kits.
The party appeals to all its volunteers across the country to actively participate in the collection and sending of relief material for the flood-hit people.
Regards,

Recent initiatives and Proposals by Ministry of Commerce and Industry

12092014

Merchandise exports registering double digit growth for the month of May and June (12.4% and 10.22% respectively) and 7.33% for July, 2014;  positive trade balance for services exports; timelines for completion of activities relating to SEZs developers and units; procedural simplification measures in DGFT are some of the key initiatives undertaken by Ministry of Commerce & Industry during the recent times.
The year 2013-14 was full of challenges and opportunities. A series of international events including the impact of Euro Zone Crisis and the global slowdown had a major impact on our economy and exports. While the global environment still remains challenging, policy action in India has been repositioned so as to better tackle the negative impact of external shocks.  The growth momentum and export competitiveness has picked up as government has instilled greater confidence among businesses. The improved outlook and pro-active policy environment will help boost exports and bring India on the trajectory of greater economic growth.
During the FY2014, total value of exports was US $ 465.90 billion with Merchandise and Services Exports comprising of US$ 314.40 billion and US $ 151.5 billion respectively. The target for total exports for year 2014-15, is US $ 500 billion with Merchandise and Services Exports expected to be US $ 340 billion and US $ 160 billion respectively. As per the current rankings, India is the 19th largest exporter (with a share of 1.7%) and 12th largest importer (with a share of 2.5%) of merchandise trade in the world. In Commercial Services, India is the 6th largest exporter (with a share of 3.3%) and 7th largest importer (with a share of 2.9%).India’s share in world trade (Merchandise and Services) has increased from 1.77% in 2008 to 2.27% in 2013. Our goal is to raise this to 3.5% by 2018-19.
According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the New Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) (2014-19) would include strategy, goals, road maps and timeframe for increasing exports.
This would be comprehensive and composite, focusing on: products which are winners and potential winners, targeted global engagements, branding and packaging measures etc.

Snapshot of key initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry:

1.            Trade promotion and reforms:

  • Reduction in transaction costs through initiatives for simplification of documents and procedures, which includes re-alignment, redrafting and synchronisation of paragraphs in all Chapters of FTP/HBP to bring in more clarity, rationalize the number in Schemes (Chapter-3) and to ensure that provisions are placed in an orderly manner.

  • Digitization of various processes, wherein proposal to do inter-ministerial consultations online is made so that exporters can file their applications on the DGFT website. Discontinuation of printing and issuing of all authorisation is also proposed to make a paperless transaction in reality.

  • As part of the capacity building of new entrepreneurs `You tube’ channel of DGFT had been launched recently in respect of (a) how to obtain an IEC number and (b) how to view/print e-BRC. Proposals in respect of online Training Programme for new entrepreneurs; how to apply for Certificate of Origin- Non-preferential/preferential; how file Shipping Bill for exports etc. are also made.

2. India’s strong stand in the WTO – India has taken a leadership role to rectify the imbalance in the Bali package implementation process and prevent the development being subverted again and to ensure a permanent solution on public stockholding for food security to correct a longstanding injustice in WTO rules.

3. Extensive review of Special Economic Zones for re-energizing manufacturing-led export -Governance reforms in SEZs viz. prescription of time limits for disposal of various activities related to SEZ Developers/Units; digitization and standardization of procedures, harmonization of rules, decisions on modification of MAT & DDT and the dual use of infrastructure in non-processing areas, extension of Customs ICEGATE system to the SEZ framework are being actively pursued.

4.  For Mainstreaming of States in trade - Government of India has requested the State Governments to develop an Export Strategy.

5Plantations - Relating to plantations an insurance based scheme being evolved for stabilization of prices of four plantation crops (Tea, Coffee, Rubber and Spices) and a National Policy for rubber sector being formulated. Several other measures are also in active consideration.

6. Process initiated by government to enhance export of items from the Defence sector –This includes raising FDI limit from 26% to 49% in defence sector, creation of HS codes for items in this sector, fastracking of applications, listing of munitions etc.

7. Forging stronger relationships in our immediate neighborhood – Greater economic integration has been achieved in South Asia . Besides, a line of credit of US $ 1 billion has been offered to Bhutan . A more focused direction would be given to the utilisation of FTAs and to establish new approaches to preferential trading with Latin America, CIS region and Africa . Government will also strategies global trade engagements to conclude trade pacts, where negotiations are in various advance stages, such as with EU, PERU/Columbia, COMESA, RCEP, MERCOSUR, Russia, China, US.

8.  Initiatives for Africa – This includes Trade Ministers and Business Councils meet and building African capacities through supporting education and capacity building institutions.

9. E-procurement –   An ambitious programme for e-procurement in States to be supported.

10. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives through PSUs –Instructions had been issued by the Department of Commerce to PSUs to take up the issue of better sanitary facilities in schools under CSR.

11. Mainstreaming of Services Exports – Focused action and reforms to increase exports of Business, Professional, Tourism, Health Care and Logistic Services, R&D, Consulting, Printing and Publishing, Telecom, Construction, Educational, Entertainment Services and an attempt for greater liberalisation of Services in the WTO.

12. Project Exports - Focus on Project exports, especially to Africa, West Asia, CIS countries, ASEAN and Cambodia , Laos , Myanmar and Vietnam .

13. Improving Production Standards and Building Brand India – A mandatory standards regime to be implemented, to protect consumers and also raise the quality of merchandise produced which in turn raises the capacity to export to discerning markets.

Sunita Narain International Crook, CWC Most Idiot Corrupt
September12, 2014 (C) Ravinder Singh ravinderinvent@gmail.com
Sunita Narain, CSE the international Crook appeared on TV on 11th day
since J&K flooding began and tried to Mislead People of India as
usual.
Just about a month ago and 10 days I warned Uma Bharti MoWR and Ganga
Cleaning Project and CWC Chairman Mr. Ashwin Pandya them for not
building Multipurpose Storage Dams for flood protection.
Neither Uma Bharti nor Ashwin Pandya had appeared on TV Channels to
explain the Flood Situation and Present GOI position on this Mega
Disaster. Both have not Gone on Inspection Visit so far should have
gone ahead of PM and Briefed him about the situation but shall be
active and in Control in 10 days after normalcy.
‘Ganga Basin also has 100,000 MW Hydro Power Potential, India has to
provide Flood Protection to 20 million hectare and Municipal &
Irrigation to 50 crore people in Ganga Basin’ – as told to Uma Bharti
MoWR.
‘Over 1000 BCM of Water goes waste to sea every year, CWC is Building
LAME DUCK Dams in Himalayas at huge cost but not providing Storage for
Water Supply post monsoon, Flood Protection to 40 million hectares,
Generate Just 39% Power of the potential at the site’ to Ashwin
Pandya, Chairman CWC.
Deputy Chairman Pakistan Planning Commission Mr. Salman Faruqui was
told when issue of Baglihar Project came up in Delhi in June2008.
‘If India Builds 20 BCM of Storage Dams in J&K, Pakistan Will Get 30
BCM of Regulated Clean Blue Water Without Silt FREE, Flood Protection
to 10 million hectare FREE, Pakistan Main Dams are Silting Up fast
their life shall be extended by 200 years FREE, Power Generation to Go
Up 30% FREE, ALL THIS YOU GET FREE THAN WHY DO YOU OBJECT TO STORAGE
DAMS IN J&K’
Stupid & Crook Sunita Narain- Punjab Was 50% Flood Plain
It was Most Stupid of Sunita Narain to even suggest that Srinagar has
come up in flood plain. Sunita Narain led NGOs in Opposing Dams in
Himalayas and Rain Water Harvesting on Himalaya Slopes that mainly led
to Land Slides, Uttarakhand Tragedy.
Venice, Mumbai, Kerala Towns, Haridwar, Kanpur, Allahabad, Varanasi,
Patna, Kolkata and over 50% of World Population Live in Flood Plains –
Delhi, Agra, Mathura too are built on Flood Plain of Yamuna. Punjab
(India) was 50% Flood Plain presently 85% area is under Cultivation –
including Riverbeds of Rivers Drains.
We get Floods in Delhi – Sunita too lives in Delhi because DELHI HAS
LIMITED FLOOD PROTECTION IN ABSENCE OF STORAGE DAMS ON YAMUNA RIVER –
SABOTAGED BY SUNITA NARAIN & HUNDREDS OF NGOs LED BY HER.
In the absence of Multipurpose Dams people get Coal Based Most
Expensive Thermal Power, Sewage & Drainage in Rivers, Contaminated &
Unfit Water Extracted from Ground Drinking etc.
Bhakra Dam = 15 Million Ponds & Check Dams
She instead PROMOTES Rain Water Harvesting in Cities & Villages than
Dam Storage Based Clean & Pure Water Supply. Bhakra Dam Stores and
Regulates 15 Million Acre.Ft of water – assuming RWH on average Stores
1 Acre.Ft of water would require 15 million structure at enormous cost
& land to match Bhakra Capacity yet RWH mostly don’t work at all.
CSE Sunita Narain ACTUALLY FAVORED TOTAL Blockage of every Drain that
feed Rivers in Rajasthan for example for over 25 Years.
Dams were built even before Roman Era and some 2000 years old Roman
Era dams are fully functional even today – Dams were built at
Strategic Location with view to Store Water above Ground blocking the
river flows and Canals distributed water to habitations by gravity.
CSE Sunita Narain promoted Most Weird Check Dams to Block River &
Drains not at Strategic Location but Exit point in Village with a VIEW
to charge it in to ground and Taken Out by Hand Pumps or Tube-wells.
Such Weird Dams Didn’t Increase Food Production BUT Dried Up Intake of
Lakes Supplying Water to Cities like JAIPUR Capital of Rajasthan.
TEHRI DAM PROTECTED HARIDWAR & RISHIKESH
Tehri Dam saved Many Times more people in last years Uttarkhand
Tragedy than people Displaced by the Tehri Dam. Without Tehri Dam
Haridwar and Rishikesh would have parished in floods killing tens of
thousands.
Bhakra Dam has Saved Many Times More lives than people displaced and
serve 40 million people in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan – main
beneficiaries generated over 25,000 Crore Units of Power, Regulated
over 600 million acre.fts of water in 50 plus years and shall serve
for 200years-500 years in future with storages upstream.
Srinagar Saved By Restricted Inlet to Dal Lake
Though I don’t have full technical details I had noticed Small Inlet
in to Dal Lake built by past rulers.
Without Restriction Floods would have passed Srinagar and Down Stream
towns at 5-10 times higher Velocity and totally WIPED OUT all
buildings.
Dams also do the Same Function but have Large Storage Capacity to
absorb over a month of rainfall.
Dead Rainwater Harvesting – Notches in Himalayas
She DISHONESTLY promoted RWH – 99% were reported DEAD by TOI in Delhi
– She Continues to Promote RWH Shamelessly when 10 BCM water in lost
to sea every year in Monsoon in the Absence of RENUKA, LAKHWAR & VYASI
DAMS. There is Flood Protection and Delhi instead of Clean Blue Water
get Sewage and Drainage for Municipal Water Supply.

most important petition we’ve ever done

Dear friends,
In days, when the UN holds an emergency summit on climate change, we need to deliver the largest petition ever for a world powered by 100% clean energy. The petition number will be read out to every world leader at the summit!Sign the petition AT LEFT with one click!
SIGN THE PETITION
I can sincerely say this is the most important petition we’ve ever done.
Sorry for the language, but one top scientist just warned that we are all “f*cked” if global warming releases gigantic amounts of methane gas from the arctic tundra. The UN knows this is one of several catastrophic climate threats we’re facing, and is bringing world leaders to New York for a major summit on this global emergency.
Hundreds of thousands of us will take to the streets for the People’s Climate March just before the summit. Let’s make sure that on that day wedeliver the largest Avaaz petition ever, for the only solution: mobilize the world to shift to 100% clean energy. Click to sign the petition below with one click and tell everyone:
Here’s the petition:
To national, local, and international leaders:
Scientists warn us that climate change could accelerate beyond our control, threatening our survival and everything we love. We call on you to keep global temperature rise under the unacceptably dangerous level of 2 degrees C, by phasing out carbon pollution to zero. To achieve this, you must urgently forge realistic global, national and local agreements, to rapidly shift our societies and economies to 100% clean energy by 2050. Do this fairly, with support to the most vulnerable among us. Our world is worth saving and now is our moment to act. But to change everything, we need everyone. Join us.
Whether it’s the ‘arctic methane bomb’, the rapid acidification of our oceans, or apocalyptic flooding, climate change isthe biggest threat humanity is facing, and we need the biggest petition ever to meet it. If we make it massive, the number of us who sign will be read out to all leaders at the summit, published in hundreds of media articles, and be delivered by our marches worldwide.
100% clean energy is a realistic goal. Already, 20% of the world’s electricity comes from clean energy, and solar power is cheaper than coal in many countries! We just need to get our leaders to agree to put their foot on the accelerator.
We’re gearing up for the largest climate mobilization in history on September 21. Already hundreds of events are organised and hundreds of thousands of people signed up. But the events are designed to deliver our petition to decision makers. Let’s make it the largest call to action ever. Join now and tell everyone – sign the petition with one click below:
We’re all different, and beautifully diverse. But whoever and wherever we are, climate change threatens everything we love, and brings all of us together. Let’s come together now.
With hope,
Ricken, Danny, Lisa, Judy, Alex, Iain, and the rest of the Avaaz team

Piyush Goel On The Right Track – $100b Renewable 4 Years
September12, 2014 (C) Ravinder Singh ravinderinvent@gmail.com
I am glad Piyush Goel has understood the Economic Advantage of Rooftop Solar.
Simple calculation in the next Message – Rooftop Solar Power
Generation shall give over 40% Rate of Return on Investment, assure
power supply in Daylight hours when Homes, Industry, Shops, Schools &
Colleges, Agriculture, Offices all need power.
Cost of 1 KW Solar Panels with Tracking would be $1000 only but shall
generate between 2000 to 2500 Units of electricity every year – worth
around Rs.18,000 add GHG Credits @ $30 per tone – or $68 per year –
Rs.4000 avoiding T&D Investment of say Rs.3000 per Kw – On Investment
of Rs.60,000 per kw Rate of Return is Rs.25,000 annually and this is
over 40% return on Investment.
GOI may negotiate SUPPLIER CREDIT of say $20b to be repaid in four
years at Zero Interest – in less than 4 years loan Shall Be REPAID –
and then Solar Power Shall be FREE for rest of over 25 years service
life.
Some thing Piyush Goel targeted for 5 years – Uninterrupted Power
shall be possible in 1-3 years and electricity bills shall come down
for All Users by over 50%.
Piyush Goel is assisted by Commerce Minister who has Now Refused to
impose Dumping Duty on Solar Panels imports.
With Locally developed Tracking Solar Panels – it shall create over
$75b opportunity for India MSMES.
$100b + $20b + $75b is roughly $200b which was Target of 200,000 MW in
My Campaign.
Hope 200,000 MW of Multipurpose Power and 400 BU of Energy Efficiency
Program too shall be Taken Up by Power Minister PIYUSH GOEL.
Best Wishes to Piyush Goel and Resolve to implement it Urgently.

‘USD 100 bn investment likely in renewable energy in 4 years’
The government is expecting USD 100 billion investment in the
renewable energy sector in the next four years as it firms up a new
policy framework for the same.
“We expect USD 100 billion in the renewable energy sector in the next
four years,” Power, Coal and Renewable Energy Minister Piyush Goyal
said today at Economist India summit.
He also said the government expects USD 50-60 billion investment in
power transmission and distribution in the next four years.
The government is working on a renewable energy policy to attract
investments in the space by providing tax breaks and cheaper loans.
The Power Ministry is focused on providing 24×7 electricity to
households in the next five years.
Commenting on demand for imposing anti-dumping duty on solar panels at
another event, he said: “We had ambitious plans in the solar power
sector. Imposition of anti-dumping duty will kill the solar mission.
“Imposition of any such duty would have led to escalation in the
tariff from solar plants,” Goyal said at another event today.
He said domestic solar panel manufacturers have ‘suo-moto’ withdrawn
their plea for such a duty.
Imports were necessary as the domestic manufacturing had not scaled up
to a level wherein it could provide the required number for solar
mission, he said.
“We ensured within the framework of WTO to provide adequate support to
not only fulfil the current manufacturing potential but also plan for
a five year significant ramp up from what they (domestic manufactures)
have now,” Goyal added.
The Minister had earlier said domestic solar equipment manufacturing
capacity of 700-800 MW is not sufficient to meet the government’s
ambitious plans of adding more power generation capacity through
renewable energy sources.
The country’s current installed solar capacity exceeds 2,600 MW.
Earlier in May, the Ministry of Commerce under the UPA regime had
recommended imposing a restrictive duty in the range of USD 0.11-0.81
per watt on solar cells imported from the US, China, Malaysia and
Chinese Taipei in a move to protect the struggling domestic industry.
The recommendations were against the backdrop of US dragging India to
the WTO (World Trade Organisation) with respect to domestic sourcing
norms for the national solar mission.
India not to impose dumping duty on solar panels: Nirmala
India has decided not to impose anti-dumping duty on imports of solar
panels from countries like the US and China, Commerce Minister Nirmala
Sitharaman said today.“There was no notification. We allowed it (the
proposal) to lapse,” Sitharaman, who is also Minister of State for
Finance, said when asked about the government’s decision to impose
anti-dumping duty on solar cells as recommended by the Directorate
General of Anti-Dumping and Allied Duties (DGAD).
DGAD is under the administrative control of the commerce
ministry.Domestic power firms have been lobbying against the
imposition of the duty as the move would have led to rise in equipment
cost.To protect the struggling domestic industry, the Ministry of
Commerce in May had recommended imposing a restrictive duty in the
range of $0.11-0.81 per watt on solar cells imported from the US,
China, Malaysia and Chinese Taipei. The recommendations were against
the backdrop of US dragging India to the WTO (World Trade
Organisation) with respect to domestic sourcing norms for the national
solar mission.
India is of the view that its solar mission – which aims to have
20,000 MW solar capacity by 2022 – is compliant with WTO rules.Power
Minister Piyush Goyal had said domestic solar equipment manufacturing
capacity of 700-800 MW is not sufficient to meet the government’s
ambitious plans of adding more power generation capacity through
renewable energy sources.Ministry for Road Transport and Highways
Nitin Gadkari had written to Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman
opposing plan to levy of anti-dumping duty, saying this would escalate
the cost of solar power in the country. The country’s current installed
solar capacity exceeds 2,600 MW.

It came as part of the Pakistani military’s ongoing offensive against the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militants. The group was part of the TTP and the plan to kill Malala came from network’s current leader Maulana Fazlullah, Major General Asim Bajwa said.

Oscar Pistorius cleared of murder charges

South African judge Thokozile Masipa has cleared Olympic and paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius of all murder charges, Reuters said. “Clearly he did not subjectively foresee this as a possibility that he would kill the person behind the door, let alone the deceased as he thought she was in the bedroom,” Masipa told a court and Pistorius, who broke down in tears. He could still be found guilty of culpable homicide, the equivalent of manslaughter, if Masipa believes the athlete was negligent in shooting dead his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp last year. The judge earlier said the state had failed to prove that Pistorius was guilty of premeditated murder.

Argentine Congress passes law to restructure debt

Argentina’s Congress gave final approval Thursday to a law proposing to restructure the country’s debt, Reuters said. The move is aimed at skirting a US court ruling that tipped the country into its second default in 12 years. The bill had already been approved last week by the country’s Senate. The law enables Argentina to make payments on its foreign-held bonds locally, or elsewhere beyond the reaches of the US court. Investors are also being pushed to move their Argentine debt from the US to a new jurisdiction.

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, the Canadian who became known worldwide for his antics battling addiction, was admitted to a hospital on Wednesday after complaining of abdominal pains for three months, and has been diagnosed with a tumor. His doctor said they will do a biopsy this week to determine whether the tumor is malignant and whether it has spread. Ford is in the middle of a campaign for re-election. His brother, upset at the news, wouldn’t comment to reporters on whether they would suspend the campaign. Ford had a tumor removed from his appendix in 2009, and his father – also a politician – died of colon cancer in 2006, according

Importance of dialogue between public and private sectors to realise ASEAN integration

ASEAN Business Club Forum highlights importance of dialogue between public and private sectors to realise ASEAN integration

ASEAN Business Club Forum 2014
12 September 2014

ASEAN BUSINESS CLUB FORUM HIGHLIGHTS THE IMPORTANCE OF DIALOGUE BETWEEN PUBLIC AND PRIVATE TO REALISE ASEAN INTEGRATION

SINGAPORE, 12 September 2014 – More than 300 leaders from top businesses from across the ASEAN region converged at the ASEAN Business Club (ABC) Forum 2014 on September 8 and 9 to tackle trade and industry issues and support the implementation of one ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

The critical consideration derived from the forum was the readiness of governments and ASEAN member states for an integrated economic region under the AEC and the role that ASEAN business leaders can play to accelerate these efforts and harness ASEAN’s potential.

In his opening address, ASEAN Business Club Forum Chairman and Group CEO of AirAsia Tan Sri Tony Fernandes stressed the importance of co-operation between the public sector and businesses in the region as well as a stronger ASEAN secretariat in order to capitalise on ASEAN’s progress.

“We need to help the lawmakers facilitate businesses and not impede their growth.”

The Guest of Honour at the forum was The Honourable Lim Hng Kiang, Minister of Trade & Industry. Echoing the Chairman’s remark, he emphasised the need for eliminating non-tariff barriers as an essential element of a prosperous and fully integrated ASEAN nation.

“ASEAN is not only about inter-government discussions. Businesses play a critical role in telling us where the barriers to trade lie and where the bottlenecks in our regional and global value chains are.”

The Hon. Dr. Kan Zaw, Union Minister for National Planning and Economic Development of Myanmar also Chairman of ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting 2014 echoed the importance of the private sector’s role.

“I consider one of the most promising aspects for our future is ASEAN’s engagement with the business sector. As the engine of economic growth, businesses are well-positioned to provide important feedback to policymakers on the effectiveness of our interventions.”

In a similar format as the inaugural Network ASEAN Forum last year, the two-day forum saw another six Lifting-The-Barriers Roundtables, a sector specific analysis of the current trade barriers and bottlenecks impeding an integrated market.

The targeted sectors this year were Legal & Tax, championed by ZICOlaw and EY, Automotive & Manufacturing championed by Jardine Cycle & Carriage and AAPICO, Financial Services & Capital Markets, headed by CIMB and DBS, Minerals, Oil & Gas by SapuraKencana & Ilthabi Rekatama, Food & Beverage Industry spearheaded by FIA & AFBA, and Retail, championed by Lippo Group & IMI. The discussion points stemming from the forum will then be incorporated into Lifting-The-Barriers reports, a set of white papers, which will be submitted to the relevant ASEAN policy bodies.

Independent research partners Frost & Sullivan, AT Kearney, ZICOlaw, Ernst & Young, Bain & Company, Accenture and Food Industry Asia are spearheading research for the reports.

“We need to take stock of and tackle the non-tariff-barriers, which are the real inhibitors of ASEAN integration and submit to the governments, in particular Malaysia – the Chair of ASEAN 2015,” said Dato’ Sri Nazir Razak, Chairman of CIMB Group.

In conclusion, Tan Sri Dr. Munir Majid, chairman of CIMB ASEAN Research Institute, which organized Forum said there is a need to form a specialist industry groups to push forward greater Asean economic integration

“Governments have to get serious about private sector participation in building the AEC. The private sector has to get effectively organized to lend their ideas and support to the process. There are shortcomings on both sides. A well structured, professional and specialized structure of private sector input on a consistent basis is therefore absolutely necessary. The ABC proposal on this score should be taken up.”

The forum also saw the debut of Idea Capsules, featuring 8 innovative talks focusing on emerging startups from around the region and beyond. This is a new addition to the ABC Forum and underlined the importance of start-ups and SMEs in the ASEAN agenda.

The ABC 4th Annual Gala Dinner was held alongside the forum. Speakers at the dinner included His Excellency Ambassador Kirk Wagar, U.S. Ambassador to Singapore who spoke about America’s continued and significant contribution and support to the ASEAN integration agenda. Former Vice Chancellor of Germany, Dr. Philipp Rösler, who is the Managing Director and Member of the Managing Board of the World Economic Forum, gave a speech on transformation in a disruptive world.

The forum is organised by the ASEAN Business Club and the CIMB ASEAN Research Institute (CARI), a public organization committed to the development of the ASEAN Economic Community and which serves as the secretariat of the ASEAN Business Club. This year’s forum was sponsored by Silverlake Axis, DBS Bank and CIMB, among others.

NEW EVIDENCE SHOW CHILDREN PAY A HEAVY PRICE ACROSS SOUTH ASIA

12092014
New York, 11 September 2014 – UNICEF has launched the latest trends and data on children across South Asia which show huge progress and also that strong inequalities still persist and children pay a heavy price.
“More than 2 million children in South Asia die before their fifth birthday and these deaths are preventable. 38 per cent of all the region’s children have chronic malnutrition. And South Asia is one of the riskiest places in the world to become pregnant or give birth, with the second highest number of maternal deaths worldwide. Far too many children get married, and far too many girls are never born. Together we can turn the tide,” said Karin Hulshof, Regional Director for UNICEF in South Asia.
In addition, more than 8 million children under one year of age are not immunized. 46 % of girls marry before 18, and 18% marry before the age of 15. South Asia is also home to the largest number of stunted children in the world. In a region where nearly 700 million people still defecate in the open, 100 million children under five are not registered at birth. Afghanistan and Pakistan are two of the world’s three remaining polio-endemic countries.
The key findings are part of a new publication titled “Improving Children’s Lives, Transforming the Future – 25 years of child rights in South Asia“. The publication also presents the latest innovations which can transform and improve the situation of children in South Asia.
This new data is published as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).  The CRC has inspired domestic legislation to respect, protect and fulfill child rights in all eight countries of South Asia, as well as the creation of policy and national development plans for their implementation. All countries in South Asia have incorporated aspects of the CRC into domestic legislation and set up ministries and oversight institutions in charge of children’s issues. In some countries, very progressive legislation has been enacted, establishing children’s legally enforceable rights to health, education, protection and participation. Yet, pervasive poverty and disparities prevent millions of children in South Asia from living in dignity, reaching their potential and making choices about their own future.
“On the 25th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, we ask ourselves what else can we do to transform the lives of children in South Asia? The response is getting children and their mothers health services, good nutrition and proper toilets. We also need to provide quality schooling and create opportunities for their future. And the good news is that we have the knowhow and innovative approaches to make positive changes in the lives of children in South Asia” added Karin Hulshof.
This new publication analyzes the progress made over the last quarter of a century on nine themes which are directly affecting the lives of children. It is also providing ideas and recommendations to transform the future of children in South Asia.
UNICEF South Asia is also marking the 25th anniversary of the CRC by launching “Generation@25″ a child rights campaign which is taking a closer look at girls’ education in Afghanistan, stop stunting in India, ending open defecation in Nepal, and birth registration in Bangladesh. The campaign’s link is www.generation25.org.

30 lakh liters of Narmada water for Coca-Cola…

12092014

Why this waste of water and farming resources in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat?
Government must rethink on Sardar Sarovar Dam !

10th September 2014, Badwani :News from Gujarat has come that the COCA COLA plant, worth Rs 500 cr. , which is being started in Sajand, District is going to get a big share of water that the state receives from Sardar Sarovar Dam. The state everyday will provide approximately 30 lakh liters of water, from the river Narmada, to COCA COLA.  As of now the state already has vowed, to the functioning and proposed industrialists, some 90 lakh liters of water. Presently they already are providing 20 lakh liters of water to the manufacturing units of Ford and TATA Motors in Sajand. Now, the basic idea behind setting up of the Sardar Sarovar Dam is clear and the truth is standing tall before the people.

Many public protests are happening against the COCA COLA plants and they have been criticized world over for exploiting the ground water resources. It is also said that the apart from making false promises they do nothing. Even after knowing this, the decision of the government to grant Narmada water is an irony.

The project was pushed in the name of providing water to the drought stricken parts of North Gujarat, Saurashtra and Kachh. This resulted into the submergence of the jungle, villages, high yielding farms, temples and mosques of the tribal people in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. After such huge losses, now the government is trying to befool people and has planned to provide precious water to COCA COLA, a consumer goods manufacturing company. Now, the government is making a policy shift and is going to provide water and prime agricultural land to the industrialists instead of providing water to the farmers in North Gujarat, Saurashtra and Kachch. The Gujarat Government has now started the allotment of the 4 lakh hectare land around Sardar Sarovar. This act of the Gujarat government, inspite of the fact that changing the land and water allocation rules changes the very basic purpose of the project, is not being questioned by either the Maharashtra or the Madhya Pradesh government. Narmada Bachao Andolan appeals to the society and the people to think about this act of the government.

According to the documents furnished by the government, the total cost of the Sardar Sarovar Project has raised from Rs. 4200 Cr to Rs. 90,000 Cr. Some 40-45 thousand families, living in the submerged area around the Sardar Sarovar, are still waiting for their rehabilitation to be done. An inquiry commission, headed by Justice Shravan Shankar Jha, is still probing into the reckless behaviour of the government in rehabilitation of these people and massive corruption in the whole process. According to the norms in ‘the Right to fair compensation and transparency in land acquisition, rehabilitation and resettlement act, 2013’, the displaced people are treated as the village natives, who continue to have possession. This is one of the reasons why this act on the part of the government is unlawful.

Narmada Bachao Andolan appeals to all the sensitive people present in the society and the government to think about the hardships of the people living in the Narmada valley and demands for the reconsideration of the Sardar Sarovar Project. We also demand to save farm and community land, cultural heritage of the region and the lives of the thousands  of people living in the Narmada valley.

TRADERS GEARING FOR RENT ACT

11092014
TRADERS GEARING FOR RENT ACT & CONVERSION AND PARKING CHARGES
BUSINESS DEMOCRACY RALLY ON 18 DECEMBER AT NEW DELHI
The traders of Delhi are up in arms against Delhi Rent Act and conversion & parking charges levied by three MCDs in Delhi. At a largely attended Traders Conference held yesterday at Constitution Club,New Delhi, the traders in a unanimous voice called for a “balanced act” on Rent Act protecting the rights of old tenants. The traders also vent their ire against MCD officials for issuing arbitrary notices to large number of traders in Delhi demanding illogical parking and conversion charges. The Conference resolved to take up these issues with Central Government and BJP High Command immediately. The Conference was held by Delhi Chapter of Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT).
CAIT National Secretary General Mr. Praveen Khandelwal and Delhi MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa beside more than 500 traders from leading trade bodies of different parts of Delhi attended the meeting. Delhi CAIT Chairman Shri Narender Madan, State President Shri Ramesh Khanna and State General Secretary Shri Vijay Pal also attended the Conference.
CAIT Delhi State President Shri Ramesh Khanna declared that a massive Business Democracy Rally shall be organised on 18th December at New Delhi which will be attended by all sections of non corporate sector to highlight various burning issues of traders and other constituents of non corporate sector. Beside Delhi, people from across the Country shall participate in the rally.
Trade Leaders at the Conference said that under the guise of bonafide need, series of trader tenants are being evicted by landlords leaving them virtually jobless. Decades old shops are being evicted on ground of bonafide need irrespective of the fact that whether need is genuine or not. It appears that since cost of land in Delhi is too high and the rentals are also on a much higher side, the landlords are taking shelter of the Court on ground of bonafide need. Mr. Ramesh Khanna said that there is an immediate need of the intervention of the Central Government. He told that a CAIT delegation will meet Union Urban Development Minister Mr. Venkaiah Naidu and Law Minister Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad to get the issue resolved and traders are protected.
The traders at the Conferences also lashes out against MCD which is issuing sealing notices to large number of traders in Delhi particularly in 62 Local Commercial Markets where the MCD has demanded a conversion charge of Rs. Six thousand per sqaure meter for ground floor and for first floor and above, it is demanding conversion charges of about Rs.90 thousand per square meter. The traders said that such exorbitant charges are irrational and arbitrary. The Conference resolved to fight this issue tooth and nail and shall take up this issue with BJP Delhi State President Shri Satish Upadhyay.

For eight years, AgCareers.com has been conducting student evaluations of internship programs and providing the agricultural industry this data in a benchmarking format. Interns are surveyed both at the beginning of their internship and again at the end which develops two different reports for each participating company. Since the beginning of the survey, nearly 30 different companies have utilized this tool to help them pinpoint the strengths and weaknesses of their internship programs.
In an effort to identify any major shifts in internship experiences within agriculture, AgCareers.com reviewed the trends over the past five years, from 2009 through 2013. This data was compiled in the Internship Benchmark Survey 5 Year Trend Report which is now available to download at no charge. The report reviews recruitment, expectations and deliverables of intern programs.
Following are some of the key findings of the trend report:
  • Campus Career Services have proven to be a key resource for students in discovering internship opportunities.
  • The majority of students considered between 1 and 2 internship positions each year, with an increasing number of students considering between 3 and 5 different opportunities each year.
  • Interns reported that the #1 determining factor for choosing an internship was the job duties and responsibilities.

Chacha Modi Started With No Balls 99% Ignored in 100 days
September11, 2014 (C) Ravinder Singh ravinderinvent@gmail.com
Except Opening Up Cooperation with Nepal, Sikkim and Japan there are
largely No Balls in Chacha Modi’s innings.
No Ball 1]  –  Instead of Making Indian Industry Globally Competitive
By Routes like Investing in R&D, Promoting Medium & Small Industries,
Taking Over Shut Down Units, Increasing Salary & Wages etc –
Government is interested in ENRICHING FEW PROMOTERS who are many times
richer than Chinese counterparts who are have 10 times more turnover
and 100 times more in creating Intellectual Property.
No Ball 2]  –  Government of India is only interested in Reviving SEZs
for example which was simply Tax Avoidance Route for Companies with
little manufacturing and R&D. Indian Patent Office is Crippled &
Indian IPR is not Fiercely Protected.
No Ball 3]  –  Government of India had FAILED to CHECK PRICE RISE
which in turn would make Poor poorer.
No Ball 4]  –  Government of India is quick to Sanction Environment
Clearance to Coal Mines which is most polluting GHG emitting fuel but
Neglecting Multipurpose Hydro Power, Solar Power, Nuclear Power,
Energy Efficiency etc.
No Ball 5]  –  Government of India is Engaging Japan for Cleaning
Varanasi which is low tech but neglecting Supply of Clean Water for
Drinking, Irrigation, Industrial uses etc.
No Ball 6]  –  Government of India is not Effectively Checking SOCIAL
CONFLICTS which could derail any gain from Foreign Investments.
No Ball 7]  –  Government of India is Diluting Equity in PSU Gems
Without First VITALING PRIVATE RIVALS LIKE RELIANCE.
No Ball 8]  –  Government of India is Already in Political Conflict
With All Non BJP States, Bihar, UP, TN, Talengana, Haryana, West
Bengal, Maharashtra, and other non BJP states.
No Ball 9]  –  Government of India is not Doing Anything to Narrow
INCOME DISPARITY Between Rich & Poor.
No Ball 10]  –  Government of India is not doing anything to ERADICATE
MIDDLEMEN & MONEYLENDERS in Indian Economy.

Chacha Modi Started With No Balls 99% Ignored – Part Two
September11, 2014 (C) Ravinder Singh ravinderinvent@gmail.com
Dear Col, direction of Bullet can’t be changed in Mid Air. Most of the
Planning Directions determine future progress of India. Obviously
Chacha Modi is following most of Congress Policies with some minor
Tweaking.
India can’t be making any progress when A-Z is outsourced to Foreign Companies.
GOI has not DISCLOSED how it shall pay $1.7 Trillion to $4.7 Trillion
foreign investment invited.
No Ball 11]  –  Government of India has not increased MSP of
Foodgrains impacting 800 crore Farmers, There was no Compensation for
SEVERE DROUGHT and SEVERE FLOODS all over India.
No Ball 12]  –  Government of India ABORTED Biotech Seeds TRIALS which
could substantially boost farm productivity. Just when new Onion Crop
is due shortly GoI decided to import Onion – this would HARM Onion
Farmers.
No Ball 13]  –  Government of India has REVIVED Lunatic River Linking projects.
No Ball 14]  –  Government of India has failed to CANCEL KG-D6
allocations to RIL in spite of Majority in Parliament – there is no
hope for Cheap Cleaner Natural Gas production in near future.
No Ball 15]  –  Government of India Paid Rs.10,000 crore and Rs.5000
crores to Sugar Mills but Sugar Farmers for whom it was intended were
not paid.
No Ball 16]  –  Government of India want Bullet Trains but has no
plans to replace Re-Conditioned Coaches and Wagons and Locomotives.
No Ball 17]  –  Government of India is not SERIOUSLY COLLECTING TAXES
essential to provide Education Healthcare and Pensions to BPL and
Lower Middle Class.
No Ball 18]  –  Government of India is not Seriously Promoting FOOD
PROCESSING which alone could create 5m to 10m Jobs.
No Ball 19]  –  Government of India has not committed to REPEAL Rent
Acts that hinder housing sector development – Restoration of Ownership
Rights would have helped disaster hit area to Offer Safer
Accommodations to Strangers.
No Ball 20]  –  Government of India has no Plans to Stop BRAIN DRAIN.
