About GIWA
GIWA is a pioneer initiative that is engaging the planet’s many faiths as allies in efforts to create a world where every human being has access to safe drinking water, improved sanitation and proper hygiene. The launch of GIWA India in November, 2014 at Rishikesh, saw the coming together of over 200 faith leaders from across India and the world, as well as leaders from the government, politics, industry, academics, international organisations, celebrities and civil society. GIWA India is a unique, historic and unprecedented initiative to save millions of Indian children and families. Since its inception, GIWA has reached out to lakhs of people through its innovative approach of using faith as a platform to promote the message of WASH.
UNICEF has been providing GIWA with technical support on WASH issues and has supported development and promotion of key messages, programmes, activities, technical materials and other matter by leveraging its knowledge base and technical expertise on WASH.
