VANI hold the National Convention 2012

VANI will hold the National Convention 2012 (March 27-28, Vishwa Yuvak Kendra, New Delhi) to facilitate a dialogue within the voluntary sector. Coming together, beyond our geographical and thematic areas, is the need of the hour to put up a collective front to address these issues. VANI has already begun to act in this direction. It had convened a conclave of some leaders from the voluntary sector and we had collectively put up a case against the Income Tax Department serving notices to voluntary organizations. We are yet to see its impact. However, we have still a long way to go to articulate ourselves as a common entity to secure the democratic space that we require to operate as efficiently as possible.

Unfair Gas Price for Ukraine - Yanukovych

Ukraine is unable to buy Russian gas at current prices, which are “wrong and unfair,” Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych said in an interview with a Russian TV channel.
“I believe we will have the political will and wisdom needed to solve this issue,” Yanukovych said in an interview go to air at 17:00 Moscow time on Sunday [13:00 GMT] on the Rossiya 24 TV channel. “We are unable to pay such unjustified price for the gas. This is wrong and unfair.”
Ukraine has been seeking a revision in the 2009 gas deal with Russia since last spring. Russia has tied the price for gas to the international spot price for oil, which has been rising strongly recently due to the instability in the Middle East.Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said that a fair gas price for Ukraine amounted to $200 per 1,000 cubic meters, while Gazprom has said that the company sees no reasons for a revision.

Kenya’s next general elections on March 4 next year

Kenya's electoral body has announced that next general elections will be held on 4th of March next year after it failed to secure agreement between the two ruling coalition leaders.

Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission Chairman Issack Hassan said they have been forced to set the date since President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga have failed to agree on a date as set out in a court ruling. Hassan said they have also been forced to intervene to end anxiety which has been growing among Kenyans and international community to fix the polls date.

The announcement would now give the electoral body a go ahead to plan and announce when the country should elect new leaders.

Pressure has been mounting for the two leaders to fix election date. Foreign governments including Britain, Germany and U.S. have been calling on the country's leaders to fix the date.
