Pakistan supporting proxy war in Jammu and Kashmir: Army Chief

Army Chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag has said that Pakistan is supporting a proxy war in Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi today, Gen. Singh said, recent terror attacks reflect Pakistan's desperation. He said, Pakistan is doing this despite suffering from terrorism itself. Gen. Singh said, terrorists are finding it difficult to infiltrate from Line of Control and therefore their focus has shifted to international border.

He said Army is keeping strict vigil and will retaliate appropriately to every violation. He said, 110 terrorists were neutralized in Jammu and Kashmir last year.

On China, Gen. Singh said, India is following constructive policy and border with China is peaceful. He added that confidence-building measures, CBMs with China are working well. He said unless demarcation of Line of Actual Control with China takes place, transgressions may happen. On attacks like 26/11, the Army Chief said security forces are ready to take quick response.

Gen. Singh said, situation in North East is stable and army is taking people friendly measures. He however admitted that army is facing many challenges and needs modernization. He said, concerted efforts being made to fill up gaps in weapons and ammunition.
