Pakistan must rein in all terror groups like LeT, Taliban, Haqqani network
Jan 13,  1:55 PM

US Secretary of State John Kerry has said that Pakistan must rein in all terror groups that threaten Afghan, Indian and US interests. He said that these terror groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba, Taliban and Haqqani network continue to pose a threat not just to Pakistan and its neighbours, but also to America and the world.

Kerry was addressing a joint press conference with Sartaj Aziz, Pakistan PM's adviser on Foreign Affairs in Islamabad today.

Kerry also urged India and Pakistan to re-engage in serious dialogue. Responding to a question on flare-up in tension between the two countries after cross-border shelling, Kerry hoped that talks can take place.

He expressed sympathy for the victims of the December 16 attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar. India had called off Foreign Secretary-level talks with Pakistan after Pakistan High Commissioner in New Delhi Abdul Basit held talks with Kashmiri separatists in August last year.

The Haqqani network has been blamed for bombing of the Indian embassy in Kabul in 2008 that left 58 people dead and 2011 attack on the US embassy in Kabul. US and Afghan officials have repeatedly said that ISI covertly backed the Haqqanis to extend its influence in Afghanistan. However, Islamabad has denied the charge.
