Thai king authorizes military rule

Thailand’s army chief says he has officially become the head of the National Council for Peace and Order to take the control of the country, days after staging a coup.

General Prayut Chan-o-cha made the announcement at a news conference on Monday after widely revered King Bhumibol Adulyadej authorized him to head the council.
