Erdogan offers referendum, protests continue

Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan appears to have offered an olive branch to angry protesters, but there is no end in sight to anti-government rallies.Erdogan has met with representatives of activists in Ankara for the first time since rallies broke out late last month. The activists initially campaigned against a plan to redevelop a park in central Istanbul. The talks on Wednesday lasted for 5 hours. Erdogan hinted at a flexible approach, saying he will consider holding a referendum on the redevelopment plan.
Anti-government demonstrations spread across the country after police used water-cannon and teargas on groups peacefully protesting against the plan.
Demonstrators and police again clashed fiercely in a square in Istanbul hours before the meeting. Quite a few  participants demand, Ergodan steps down.
