N.Korea: No nuclear talks with US

North Korean diplomat has again rejected the possibility of holding talks on the country’s nuclear program with the US Trump administration.
Choe Son Hui, the chief of the North American department of the North Korean Foreign Ministry, spoke to reporters at a hotel in Moscow on Sunday. She had attended a conference on nuclear nonproliferation held in the Russian capital.
Referring to the six-party talks on North Korea’s nuclear program, Choe said she had declared at the conference her country would not respond to negotiations that are held on the premise of the North’s denuclearization.
On talks with the Trump administration, she said Pyongyang does not feel the need to respond to a dialogue that uses a maximum level of pressure to make the North abandon its nuclear program.
Choe said North Korea’s ultimate goal is to achieve a balance of power with the United States. She said her country needs more nuclear deterrence capability while military provocations by the US continue.

Abe, PM with better strength

Abe’s ruling coalition held on to a two-thirds majority of the seats in Japan’s lower house after Sunday’s general election, putting the prime minister in a position to move toward revising the country’s pacifist constitution. Abe said he must humbly accept the victory in this election, and he will continue to do everything he can to produce results with humility and sincerity.

Abe said he thinks the fact that the ruling party was given a majority of seats represents the view of the people that he must continue to pursue policies using a stable political platform.
He said he will do his best to meet those expectations and try to produce a steady flow of results.
Abe’s Liberal Democratic Party,  coalition partner Komeito, together are nearing 312 seats of the contested 465 seats when last reported. The LDP alone won at least 283 seats, gain an “absolute majority,” power to control every standing committee in the lower house. The opposing parties nearing to  clinched 125 seats between them.
Remaining needs clear results.Constitutional Democratic Party, formed by the leader- rejects, performed better than Party of Hope, that of Tokyo Gov. Yuriko Koike’s new party.
Japan’s ruling coalition has won an overwhelming victory in Sunday’s general election. The final tally part wise is as follows-;
The Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito party maintained more than two-thirds of the Lower House seats, allowing them to propose the first amendment to the country’s Constitution.
As of Monday morning, 461 of the chamber’s 465 seats have been decided. The LDP, led by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, secured 283 seats, one less than before the election but far more than a simple majority of 233.
Komeito won 29, bringing the total of seats held by the ruling camp to 312.
Abe said the result reflected people’s desire for the ruling bloc to produce concrete results on a stable political foundation. He pledged to do his best to meet their expectations.
On the opposition side, the Constitutional Democratic Party, or CDP, more than tripled its seat tally to 54, making it the main opposition. The party is a splinter group of the Democratic Party, which did not run any candidates in the election.
CDP President Yukio Edano said the party will fulfill its pledge to restore grassroots politics. He said it does not support amending the Constitution to approve the right of collective self-defense.
Tokyo governor Yuriko Koike’s party, Hope, another upstart, won fewer-than-expected 49 seats.
Koike said her party aimed to become an alternative for voters critical of the Abe administration, but instead was widely criticized for how she presented its policies.
Both the CDP and Hope were founded right before the election campaign began.
Japanese Communist Party has won 12 seats, and Nippon Ishin Japan Innovation Party 10 seats.
The Social Democratic Party retained one seat.
The Party for Japanese Kokoro and the New Party DAICHI came away empty handed.
Heartiest greetings to my dear friend  on his big election win. Look forward to further strengthen India-Japanrelations with him.

Carles Puigemont: Direct rule on Barcelona the worst

chunk_1506775617466786449_73_a
Catalan President Carles Puigdemont has slammed Madrid’s decision to impose direct rule on Barcelona as “the worst attack against the institutions and the people of Catalonia since the military dictatorship of Francisco Franco.” Protesters said,
“Triggering Article 155 is unreasonable violence against the Catalan people,” further more
EU considers the Catalonian dispute an internal matter for Spain, but protesters accused Brussels of turning a blind eye on what they see as the oppression by the government.
“We had talk of possible support from Europe, for example, but it seems that the EU is not interested at all in what’s going on here.”
Puigdemont announced that he had asked the regional parliament to hold a debate on the measures taken by Madrid and added that the people of Catalonia would never accept such a decision by the central Spanish government.

I ask the parliament to meet in a plenary session during which we, the representatives of the citizens’ sovereignty, will be able to decide over this attempt to liquidate our government and our democracy and act in consequence,” Puigdemont said in a televised speech.
Earlier, the head of the Catalan parliament, Carme Forcadell, said that the Catalan authorities were not going to take “a step back” in their pursuit of independence and were ready to defend Catalan sovereignty “now more than ever.”
She also accused the central government of carrying out “an authoritarian coup within the EU” and sharply criticized Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy for what she called “great political irresponsibility.”
Spain PM Rajoy said his government wants to dissolve the Catalan parliament and call a snap election to restore order in the region. He also said that the powers of the Catalan government would be temporarily transferred to Madrid, adding that the relevant proposal was already sent to the Senate for approval.
The snap election will take place in six months, the Prime Minister said. The measures taken by Madrid are expected to be approved now by Spain’s Upper House (the Senate) on October 27.

Bhullar romps home to eighth Asian Tour title at Macao Open

Sandhu continues hot streak with tied second finish
Macao, October 21, 2017: India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar romped home to a three-shot victory at the Macao Open to bag his eighth Asian Tour title. As a result Bhullar etched his name on the Macao Open trophy for the second time having previously won the event in 2012.
Gaganjeet (64-65-74-68) was unstoppable on the final day of the US$500,000 event as he brought in a card of three-under-68 to end up with a winning total of 13-under-271 at the Macau Golf and Country Club.
In more good news for India, Ajeetesh Sandhu (66-67-71-70), fresh from his twin triumphs in Taiwan and Japan over the last two weeks, delivered a last round of one-under-70 to grab a share of second place at 10-under-274 and make it two Indians in the top-3.
Ajeetesh shared the runner-up spot with Angelo Que (69) of the Philippines.
Gaganjeet Bhullar, the overnight leader by one shot, put behind the disappointment of an ordinary third round effort of three-over-74 as he bounced back in round four with seven birdies at the cost of two bogeys and a double-bogey.
Bhullar started the day with a bogey to concede his outright lead and slip into the joint lead along with compatriot Sandhu. But he then rallied with six birdies over the next 12 holes to build a healthy five-shot lead to all but run away with the title.
Thereafter, Gaganjeet’s subsequent bogey and double-bogey on the 14th and 16th couldn’t stop him from marching to his first Asian Tour title in about a year. He finally registered a three-stroke victory margin thanks to his birdie on the closing 18th.
The strapping 29-year-old from Kapurthala in Punjab has now equalled Arjun Atwal and Jyoti Randhawa’s record of most wins (8) by an Indian on the Asian Tour.
It was also Gaganjeet’s third wire-to-wire victory of his career following the Macao Open 2012 and the Indonesia Open 2013. Bhullar had last tasted international success just about a year back at the Asian Tour’s Bank BRI-JCB Indonesia Open 2016.
Bhullar now has nine international wins to his credit including one on the European Challenge Tour. Interestingly, it was the third time that an Indian won the Macao Open. Besides Gaganjeet having won it in 2012, Anirban Lahiri had also won it in 2014.
Ajeetesh Sandhu, who was overnight tied second, one off the lead, had an encouraging start to the day when he sank two birdies on the first four holes. Ajeetesh, the joint leader early in the day, soon slipped out of contention after a string of bogeys on the seventh, 10th and 14th. He however managed to finish joint second after a late flourish which saw him birdie the 16th and 18th.
Rashid Khan shot a stunning final round of seven-under-64, the day’s best, to climb 19 places to tied fifth at six-under-278. His presence in tied fifth made it three Indians in the top-6 this week.
Chiragh Kumar of India also finished inside the top-20. He was tied 19th at even-par-284.
Shubhankar Sharma was a further stroke back in tied 24th.
Among the other Indians, Chikkarangappa was 33rd at three-over-287, Himmat Rai was tied 58th at eight-over-292, Khalin Joshi was tied 66th at 10-over-294 and M Dharma was 70th at 18-over-302.
