Geeta elated with support from Sachin Tendulkar, Aamir Khan and PWL

Delhi, 25 December 2016: Geeta Phogat is leaving no stones unturned in her preparation to the second season of Pro Wrestling League. And the release of Aamir Khan starrer Bollywood film ‘Dangal’ is just the right tonic to fuel her ambitions to win the league with the Uttar Pradesh franchise.

Last week, Aamir Khan hosted a special screening of the movie where along with the entire Phogat family, Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar was also present. Geeta felt it was an honour for her and her family to watch the film along side these luminaries. “The movie is a source of inspiration for me and Babita to do well in the league. The league has done a world of good to me and all the wrestlers around the country and world,” said Geeta.

Even Babita echoed her sisters feelings. “The film has shown the true spirit of the sport and has struck a chord with everyone in the country,” explained Babita. Even their father Mahavir Phogat was impressed with the way Aamir portrayed the character. “I wish the movie breaks all box-office records,” said Mahavir.

Geeta and Babita have become talk of the town after the release of this movie. And the owners of Uttar Pradesh franchise are excited to have the two sisters in their team. UP franchise promoter Honey Katyal said, “I am extremely proud of having both the sisters, Geeta & Babita in our team.  I believe that both will play a key role in our team and inspire the rest of the team players to perform & ensure UP team brings home the title.”

At the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, Geeta won a gold medal while sister Babita won silver. Post that they won medals at World Championships and Geeta became the first women wrestler from India to qualify for the Olympics. Babita bettered her 2010 CWG feat by winning a gold in 2014 edition, which eventually helped her to seal a spot at 2016 Rio Olympics.

Geeta’s next aim to is to become India’s no.1 women wrestler in 58 kgs category and for that her first target is to beat Rio Olympics medalists Marwa Amri from Tunisia and India’s very won Sakshi Malik in second season of Pro Wrestling League. “I’m looking forward to my match against both Sakshi and Marwa. Post my wedding, my husband Pawan has helped me continue my training. I’m sure Babita and I will do everything to bring glory to UP franchise,” concluded Geeta.
