To celebrate the 109th Birth Anniversary of “Bhagat Singh”

To celebrate the 109th Birth Anniversary of “Bhagat Singh”, www.mintageworld.comlaunched a docudrama on the history of the various stamps and coins being launched to celebrate his life, struggle and triumph of Indian Freedom Struggle
September 2016, Mumbai: Bhagat Singh was an Indian socialist and a revolutionary. He is considered to be one of the most influential revolutionaries of the Indian Independence Movement. Born on 27thSeptember, 1907, in Punjab, Bhagat Singh grew up in a family who was deeply involved in political activities. Later, he joined the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association and met prominent revolutionaries including Rajguru, Sukhdev and Azad.
He became involved in numerous revolutionary activities. He quickly gained prominence in the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA) and became one of its chief leaders.Lala Lajpat Rai was killed at the hands of the police. Bhagat Singh wanted revenge for this incidence. He became involved in the murder of the British Police Officer John Saunders. The police tried to capture him. However, Bhagat Singh was successful in avoiding arrest.
In the April of 1929, Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt threw two bombs into the Assembly chamber from its public gallery while it was in session. As the smoke from the blast filled the hall the duo threw leaflets while chanting the slogan “InquilabZindabad!”.The nominal intention was to protest against the Trade Disputes and Public Safety Bill. But the bombs were not intended to kill. Singh and Dutt were subsequently arrested and put into jail.
Some of the Unique Stamps and coins launched to celebrate his life, struggle and triumph of Indian Freedom Struggle:
Stamps:
  • On 19thOctober 1968, India post honored Bhagat Singh by issuing a 20 paisa stamp. This horizontal mineral red stamp depicts a portrait of Bhagat Singh in the silhouette background of the procession of freedom fighters.
  • On 19thOctober 1968, an artistic First Day Cover portraying an outline sketch of Bhagat Singh’s head profile with a flaming torch was released.
  • In 2015, a definitive five rupees stamp of this great patriot was produced by India Post.
  • In 2012, a special cancellation mark was issued at Gorakhpur, which pays homage to India’s martyrs. The mark has a picture of a noose with the words ‘Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev’ in the centre and the poem ‘Sarfaroshi ki tamanna ab hamaare dil mein hai’below it.
Coins:
  • In 2007, The Reserve Bank of India issued two coins of Rs. 5 and Rs. 100 commemorating Bhagat Singh’s birth centenary. The reverse of these coins show the bust of Singh with the words ‘Shaheed Bhagat Singh Janamshati’ in Hindi and ‘Shaheed Bhagat Singh Birth Centenary’ in English[1]. The obverse denotes the denomination and emblem of India, Ashokan Pillar.
At the Mianwali jail, Bhagat Singh witnessed glaring discrimination between European and Indian prisoners. He protested by going on a 116 day hunger strike, the longest known in history. On 23rdMarch, 1931, 11 hours ahead of schedule, Singh was hanged. He was only 23 years old when he died. The Indian independence struggle, where hundreds of martyrs laid down their life, Bhagat Singh’s sacrifice draws tremendous amount of inspiration to the youth of India till today.

Brutal Surat Municipal Council puts City on high risk for personal gains

Brutal Surat Municipal Council puts City on high risk for personal gains
Criminologist Snehil Dhall alleged Surat Municipal Council (SMC) as murderers for all the accident observed due to BRTS Route gates tender not being implemented since a year.

Mumbai: The so called image of Surat Municipal Council is no longer to be trusted as they continue to be one of the most organized in committing crimes as evaluated by Criminologist Snehil Dhall. A tender was sanction for Supply, Installation, Commissioning and Maintenance of Automated Swing Gates in BRT Lane at Bus Stations at Different Bus Stations of BRTS Phase 1 in Surat City under the reference of Tender Notice No. CE/BRTS/09/2015-16 with Standing Committee Resolution No. 2251/2015, dated 28/08/2015 but the same has not been implemented. The gates could have stopped all the traffic which are still of a big concern for the Traffic Police but the SMC has still not provided the Request Order for allocating the job for which the work order has already been approved. The level of corruption from SMC is just increasing by the year while they try to hide all the details from the public and floating tenders for the bus stations which are not ready, whereas, the existing tenders are not allowed for implementation. The current tenders of BRTS sliding doors have already been manipulated more than five times and yet the criteria’s attached to it are highly suspicious since the tenders are not channelled in the usual legitimate manner. The scenario of tenders are clearly evident of major corruption due to which many corporate companies are getting harassed although it is not clear if the act is racist or not since most of the applicant are not locals.

As per Dhall the Tender Criteria’s have been changed to accommodate unworthy and incapable applications for BRTS door-sliding contract. The situation of changes in Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) door-sliding contract has become major concern with a tender being floated four times to accommodate unworthy and incapable applications and at fifth occasion the same was dissolved to divide the tender in two parts. Previously the tender timings were extended repeatedly in which at one occasion the tender hardcopies was accepted even after due dates, whereas, at other occasions the eligibility was compromised. The prequalification of the product required by the tender was compromised for suppliers not being the vendors for the same products, i.e. diluting the supplier product range not matching the actual requirement of the tender being floated for. “I was extremely impressed with the Power Point Presentation of Surat Policing Arrangements being educated to me in one of the events in New Delhi but now I have great fear for the safety measures if such random manipulations are carried by other departments of the city. Incapable applicants invites more security lapses and can create major defaults in public safety.” says Criminologist Snehil Dhall.

It is nothing to do with the way Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) is formulating the product requirements for the work, but it’s about SMC changing the eligibility for potential candidates. The perfection of the city was maintained due to strict application scrutiny, whereas, the same has been drained down with the number of changes and manipulations done for just one tender. Dhall confirmed that he has received the details from reliable sources and the same can be observed through all the information of tenders made public by SMC. He has filed few RTI’s to get the answers for specific questions to carry his research on Organized Crime in Surat. As per Dhall’s understanding of BRTS Strategic coordination, the system in place can be centrally monitored and during any terror emergency on buses, all station doors can be centrally closed if any bus is under suspicion of ongoing evaluation conducted by Bomb Squad or other security agencies.

Current Tender Details:
The tender includes supply, installation, commissioning and maintenance of automated sliding doors, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Readers and RF Controllers for different Bus Station of BRTS Phase II and RF Switches and RFID tags for buses for bus rapid transit system phase II-E in Surat City. These RFID Readers are working on a frequency that allows the bus and station doors to open together. The products are used since day one of BRTS Project and the current tender is just an expansion of new bus stations. The objectives are to prevent accidents of commuters and increase the quality as per international standards.

The Ridge and the City:Environmental Politics in Delhi

Delhi Ridge as Ecology – Forest
Thomas Crowley is the author of the report Fractured Forest: the Political Ecology of the Delhi Ridge, which he wrote while working for the Delhi-based NGO Intercultural Resources. Beginning in October, he will be a Fellow in the Art, Science and Business Program at the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart, Germany.
Thomas Crowley spoke at
This presentation explores the environmental politics of the Delhi Ridge, a hilly area that cuts through the National Capital Territory. The Ridge is often described as the green lung of Delhi, a crucial ecological resource in a rapidly-expanding megacity. At present, roughly eighty square kilometres along the Ridge have been notified as Reserved Forests, the highest level of protection the government can give. The earliest notification dates back to 1913, but the vast majority of the area was notified in 1994 and 1996. The current politics of the Ridge largely revolve around its status as a Reserved Forest: whether the notification process has been followed properly; whether the notified areas are being afforested in a timely and ecologically-sensitive manner; whether boundary lines are being drawn properly, if they are being drawn at all; how to handle so-called ‘encroachments’ in the Ridge; and so on. All these issues are important for understanding ecological and political contestations in present-day Delhi.
However, exclusively focusing on the Ridge as a forest obscures a much larger social and environmental shift, which took place over several centuries: the evolution of the Ridge from commonly-owned land used for grazing and firewood collection to a state-owned forest area. But this state-owned zone is surrounded by privately-owned plots used for quarrying, real estate speculation and more, and the boundaries between the two are often quite blurry. Using the theoretical frameworks of political ecology and historical geography, the presentation will analyse these shifts in land use over the longue durée, and explore their implications for ecological and social justice in Delhi today.
