Volkswagen Group delivers 4.2 million vehicles in period to May
https://www.volkswagen-media-services.com/vwms-theme/img/newsletter/pix.gif

•   871,500 vehicles delivered in month of May – a rise of 1.6 percent
•   Fred Kappler, Head of Group Sales: “The Volkswagen Group was able to record steady growth in Europe and Asia-Pacific”
Compared with the value for May 2015, the Volkswagen Group grew deliveries to customers by 1.6 percent in May 2016 – throughout the world, a total of 871,500 vehicles were handed over to customers. In the period to May, 4.2 million units were delivered, representing an increase of 0.8 percent over the corresponding period of the previous year. However, there continue to be considerable variations in growth between the regions. “In the regions of Europe and Asia-Pacific, the Volkswagen Group was able to achieve a further increase in delivery figures and to record steady growth,” reports Fred Kappler, Head of Group Sales.
In May, the Volkswagen Group handed over 369,500 vehicles to customers in Europe. This corresponds to a rise of 4.6 percent compared with last year’s figure. As expected, the Western European market developed positively (+3.4 percent), with the main impetus for growth coming from the home market of Germany (+2.6 percent), France and Italy. May also saw strong growth in the markets of Central and Eastern Europe (+11.7 percent). While deliveries to customers in this region were still affected by the tense situation in Russia in the first quarter, the positive trend seen in the previous month continued in May. In Russia, 13,200 vehicles were delivered to customers in May – a rise of 7.5 percent compared with the previous year’s figure.
In the region of North America, the Volkswagen Group handed over 367,200 vehicles to customers in the year to May, representing a slight fall compared with the previous year
(-1.0 percent). While Audi and Porsche were able to record growth in this region, deliveries by the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand fell. In the region of South America, 38,100 vehicles were handed over to customers in the month of May (-20.4 percent). This trend is a result of the tense economic situation in Brazil, where 23,500 vehicles were delivered to customers, representing a fall of 31.1 percent compared with the previous year.
The steady growth in the Asia-Pacific region since the beginning of the year continued. In May, the Volkswagen Group delivered 341,600 vehicles in this region. This represents a rise of 4.1 percent compared with the previous year. The main impetus came from China (+4.9 percent) and Japan. In the year to May, 1,708,400 vehicles were handed over to customers in the Asia-Pacific region – an increase of 3.3 percent.

Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour 2016 – Leg 8

Vani Kapoor (1)
Vani triumphs in style
Bangalore, 17th June 2016: Vani Kapoor came up with another scintillating performance to win the 8th Leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour at the Eagleton Golf Resort here on Friday. Vani carded a superb 4 under 68 to clinch her fourth title of the season. Gursimar Badwal finished second with a total score of 222, followed by Amandeep Drall and Neha Tripathi in tied third position at 224. The INR 6,00,000 event culminated today.
Delhi’s Vani Kapoor led the field from the very first round and kept getting better by the day to claim the title by a huge margin of 16 shots over Gursimar Badwal. She started impressively, playing a blemish free front-nine with two birdies on the 4th and 7th holes. She added three more birdies to her tally on the 14th, 17th and 18th holes, while dropping just a single shot on the 15th. In the process, she demolished all opposition and finished the round with a total score of 206 after 54 holes.
Kapurthala’s Gursimar Badwal played an even-par round of 72 to take the second position. Her round included two birdies on the 14th and 15th holes with an equal number of bogeys on the 7th and 18th to finish with a total score of 222 after the final round. Panchkula’s Amandeep Drall carded 1 under71, only the second under-par score of the round to finish tied third. She started with aplomb and fired four birdies on the 1st, 4th, 6th and 8th holes with a lone bogey on the 7th. However, she could not sustain the momentum in the latter half and dropped two shots on the 13th and 15thholes. Hero Order of Merit leader Neha Tripathi was far from her best in the final round. She had an indifferent start and carded a double bogey on the 2nd hole, followed by four bogeys on the 7th, 12th, 13th and 14th holes. However, two late birdies on the 17th and 18th holes helped her to control the damage and she finished the round with a score of 4 over 76.
Delhi’s Mehar Atwal could not replicate her second round performance and finished fifth with a total score of 226. Her card of 4 over 76 on the day included three birdies on the 6th, 7th and 18th holes along with five bogeys on the 3rd, 5th, 10th, 13th and 15th. She also carded a double on the 16th hole. Amateur Suchitra Ramesh finished sixth with a total score of 231, followed by Pune’s Shweta Galande and Delhi’s Gauri Monga in tied seventh position at 232.
The Tour now moves to the Clover Greens for the 9th Leg to be played from 21st to 24thJune.
