India and Japan sign agreements

India and Japan today signed several agreements in the field of high speed Rail, Defence Equipment and Technology Security, Infra, Tech, Education and Economy. The two countries also inked Memorandum of Understanding,MoU, on civil nuclear energy. The agreements were signed after the delegation level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe in New Delhi.
In his press statement after delegation level talks, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, India and Japan have taken two more decisive steps in security co-operation that will deepen the defence relations and promote defence manufacturing in India. He said, this builds on decision to expand staff talks to all three wings of Armed Forces and to make Japan a partner in Malabar Naval Exercises. Mr Modi said, as the two countries work for Vision 2025 of Indo-Japan ties, India and Japan would advance prosperity of people and shape an Asian century in our vision and values. Mr Modi said, recognizing the special relationship between the two countries, India will extend ‘visa on arrival’ to all Japanese citizens from 1st Mar 2016. The Prime Minister said, India would also strive for its rightful place in a reformed UN Security Council. Mr Modi said, no friend will matter more in realising India’s economic dreams than Japan. He said New Delhi deeply value the Special Strategic and Global Partnership with Tokyo. Narendra Modi said Mr Abe has been prompt and positive on India’s economic proposals many of which are now unique to India. He expressed happiness over the fact that Japanese private investments are also rising sharply. Mr Modi said, India-Japan shared commitment to combating climate change is equally strong.
In his press statement, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said, India and Japan have taken relationship to new level and buds have turned into blossoms. Mr Abe said, with a view to supporting growth of India, both public and private sector of Japan would act in unison.
The Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced that Japan will build a Convention Centre in Varanasi. In a joint statement issued at the end of annual Summit level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe, the two sides underlined the need for closer coordination and effective communication, bilaterally and with partners, to address existing and emerging challenges in spheres of security, stability and sustainable development.
Sharing their concerns about the growing threat and universal reach of extremism, the two countries reiterated their strong condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations with ‘zero tolerance’ and reaffirmed their deep concern over the continued threat posed by terrorists and terrorist groups. They called upon all countries to implement the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1267 and other relevant resolutions designating terrorist entities.
Before annual level summit meeting, Japanese Prime Minister called on President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrpati Bhawan this morning. Mr Abe and Mr Mukherjee discussed the issues of mutual concern.The holy city of Varanasi has been decked up for the visit of local MP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe who will attend ‘Ganga Aarti’ at famous Dasaswamedh Ghat in the evening today. On the 25 kilometer stretch of road between Babatpur airport and Dashashwamedh Ghat through which the convoy of Prime Minister Modi and his Japanese counterpart will pass through got a massive makeover.
Dozens of Welcome Gates have been erected all along the route where messages of Indo-Japan friendship are written prominently.
