Paes Radek Stepanek win Men’s Doubles title & Serena,retain Women’s Singles title

Leander Paes and his Czech teammate Radek Stepanek have clinched the Men’s Doubles title of the US Open Tennis tournament, the fourth and final Grand Slam of the season, at New York. In the title clash late last night, the fourth seeded Indo-Czech pair defeated the second seeded Austrian-Brazilian pair of Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares, in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3 to lift the trophy. Besides being the eighth Men’s Doubles Grand Slam title, this was Paes’ third US Open title.
 World Number One American Serena Williams has retained the Women’s Singles title, beating Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, 7-5, 6-7, 6-1. This was Serena’s 17th Grand Slam Singles title.
The Men’s Singles final match between Serbia’s World Number One Novak Djokovic and Spain’s Rafael Nadal will be played today.


 

Wrestling regains its place in Olympics

Wrestling has regained its place on the Olympics sports roster, after the International Olympic Committee, IOC voted for it. Wrestling got 49 out of the 95 votes cast by the IOC members in Buenos Aires in Argentina. The voting at the 125th IOC session ensured that wrestling will be on the Olympic roster in the 2020 games, to be hosted by the Japanese city of Tokyo, as well as in the 2024 Games.
The Indian Olympic Association and the Wrestling fraternity have hailed wrestling’s re-inclusion in the Olympic Games, saying it will inspire more youngsters to take up the sport.
