M. A. Sikander meets delegates of the Parliament of the Republic of Indonesia


“India is the third largest English language publishing industry in the world and one lakh books are produced by India annually. Publishing Industry is a very vibrant industry which has been growing at a very rapid pace” said Shri M.A. Sikander, the Director of National Book Trust, India while giving the presentation on the accolades achieved by National Book Trust, India in the Publishing field at NBT Headquarters at Vasant Kunj, New Delhi.


National Book Trust, India (NBT) has been organising courses in publishing throughout the country. An apex body of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, NBT was established in 1957 by the Government of India, with the objective to promote books and inculcate reading habits in the country. Besides publishing, which forms its major activity, the NBT is also involved in a number of book promotional activities, like organising book exhibitions, both in India and abroad. NBT also organises the biennial New Delhi World Book Fair, considered to be the largest book fair in the Afro-Asian region. Every year National Book Trust, India publishes more than 100 books in English as well as in other Indian Languages like Hindi, Oriya, Telugu, Bangla and others.

The Presentation was followed by the panel discussion. The session was moderated by the Director of the National Book Trust.

I would like to realize my gratitude to Mr Sikander and  would like to tell that the main objective of coming here is to discuss the law of book publishing in this Industry, therefore we have chosen NBT, India as the main place to learn about books as NBT, India is one of the best book systems in the world.” Said Rizali Wilmar Indrakesuma                                        ,The Head of the Parliament of the Republic of Indonesia (Committee X on Education, Culture & Tourism, Youth & Sports & Library Affairs)

At the end, Shri M. A. Sikander proposed a vote of thanks to all the members who were present in the discussion.
