Rain landslides hamper Operation Surya
ON Monday fresh continuos rain, landslides, cloudburst at a number of places at high altitudes of Pauri, Chamoli and Rudraprayag districts of calamity-hit Uttarakhand rescue operation hampered on-going rescue and evacuation operations in the hill state.
Fresh landslides occurred on the key road linking Rishikesh and Rudraprayag, hitting rescue efforts.

Army, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the Air Force are making difficult to evacuate stranded people. More than 3000 people are evacuated.
Met reported rains for next four days which is cause of concern and back clouds engulf the state.
Nearly another 10,000 people are still stranded without food and bare necessities. Inclement weather and landslides are adding woes to the rain flash flood ravaged state.

BSNL has restored almost all its towers, which were affected in the flood hit areas of Uttrakhand. Out of 72 telephone exchanges that were down, 44 have also been restored. The access between Gupt Kashi to Tehri was also cleared by the Border Road Organization. The Railways has decided to carry relief material for Uttarakhand free of cost for 15 days from Tuesday. It is also running a special train from Haridwar to Delhi at 10 pm on Monday night. |
• Despite bad weather which partially affected the air evacuation operations, the Army, ITBP, NDRF and BRO continued to press ahead with the relief and rescue activitie
Army:
• The Army evacuated 1375 persons today of which 368 were from Harsil and rest from Badrinath.
• Tracks have been created from Harsil to Uttar Kashi to enable persons who are physically fit to walk down to Uttar Kashi and then proceed on vehicles.
IAF:
• IAF did 115 sorties from Dharasu and 20 from Shimla to evacuate 1095 persons from Harsil. However, due to bad weather the operations were severely affected.
ITBP:
• The ITBP evacuated 450 persons from Badrinath and 267 from Gangotri Maneri area.
• The ITBP combed the Bhairon Chetti area and ensured that there are no survivors there.
NDRF:
• The NDRF rescued 120 persons today from Harsil. Dead bodies recovered in Kedarnath area were handed over to the local police.
• NDRF also confirmed that there are no survivors left in Kedarnath, Bhairon Chetti area.
BRO:
• The BRO continued its operations to clear the passages between Tilwara and Rudra Prayag.
• The access between Gupt Kashi to Tehri was also cleared.
