In a run up to the indefinite fast beginning July 25th, 2012, Team Anna would take an extensive tour of villages (“Gram Sanvad Yatra”) in the various districts of Western Uttar Pradesh. The ‘Gram Sanvad Yatra’ will begin from June 18 at Rajghat after paying homage to Mahatma Ghandhi. The plan for the proposed tour was formulated during a meeting of social activists from 12 districts who met in Ghaziabad today.

The yatra would be conducted in 4 phases and will end on July 12. In the first phase — from June 18 to 22 – the yatra would travel to villages in Saharanpur via Bhagpat and Shamli districts. In the second phase, from June 25-29, villages around Meerut, Muzzafarnagar, Bijnor and Roorkee will be covered. In the third phase, from July 2 to 6, the yatra would cover villages in Noida, Bulandshehar and Aligarh. The fourth and last phase of yatra would take place in Ghaziabad, Hapur, JP Nagar and Moradabad from 8-12 July.

Team Anna member Manish Sisodia would participate in all the four phases of the yatra. Gopal Rai, Sanjay Singh and other members are also expected to join the yatra. During the yatra, awareness would be raised on the corruption charges against 15 cabinet ministers. The charges against PM under whom Rs. 1.80 lakh coal scam, considered to be one of the biggest scams, would also be discussed in detail. Apart from the Cabinet Ministers, irregularities of party supremos like Mulayam Singh, Mayawati and other BJP leaders would also be discussed.

All the activists present at the meeting decided that they would themselves bear the expenses incurred during the yatra in their districts. A team of young Nukkad Natak (street play) performers from Delhi University would travel along with the yatra.
