Persistence Resistance is premised on the belief that documentary practices in any place actively participate in the shaping of our times. While celebrating the documentary form and practice, Persistence Resistance also acknowledges the audience as a powerful and resistive force that constantly constructs myriad ways of using and recycling images in an attempt to break out of the censorious trappings of the cinema hall. Keeping up with continually evolving viewing trends, Persistence Resistance attempts to create diverse spaces of viewing films, from the auditorium to the video parlours and video libraries. It offers a space for interacting with filmmakers as well as installations, and all of these aim to take account of the viewers' sensory perceptions, as well as recognizing the viewer as having a self-identity.
Persistence Resistance is an attempt at bringing together the documentary, the documentary filmmaker and the audience to collectively create and redefine public cultures.
In its fifth year, Persistence Resistance 2012 will screen Indian and international films, celebrating the independent documentary artists' deep engagement with the myriad forms that the documentary affords. The festival will also premiere some recent works.
