India bags twenty four CWG Gold medals
October 09,2010: Delhi CWG 2010:
India bagged 24 golds, has 16 Silver and equal number of Bronze medals to its credit.With wrestler Narsingh Pancham Yadav of India wins gold in the men's 74 kg freestyle wrestling category. India retains second spot.

Swimming: In the 1,500 free,Shave finish Canadia Ryan Cochrane wins the gold.South Africa's Heerden Herman move in to second for a silver. England's Daniel Fogg took the bronze finish for bronze .

Freestyle event
India's Yogeshwar Dutt won the gold in the 60 Kilogram freestyle event, beating Canada's James Mancini. Narsingh Pancham Yadav in 64 kg category advanced to the finals beating Mac donald of Canada 2-1.

Shooting
With Gagan Narang striking a fourth gold for India in the Singles 50 m Rifle 3 Positions (Men) event,India total of Gold moves on 22.The Silver went to Jonathan Hemund of Scotland and bronze to James Heckle of England.

Vijay Kumar and Harpreet Singh started the day on a high note for Indian shooters in the Commonwealth Games, winning the gold medal thus totaling twenty one, in men's 25m-centrefire pistol pairs event at the Karni Singh Shooting Range on Saturday.Vijay and Harpreet shot an impressive 1159 to bag the top prize, ahead of New Zealand's Greg Yelavich and Alan Earle who won the silver.Singapore's Lip Meng Poh and Bin Gai grabbed the bronze.

In women's section, India's Suma Shirur and Kavita Yadav had to be content with the bronze in the 10-metre air rifle event as Malaysia's Ayuni Halim and Nur Suryani bagged the yellow metal.Singapore's Ser Xiang Wei Jasmine and Cheng Jian Huan bagged the bronze medal.

"I am naturally delighted to win my first gold in the Commonwealth Games. I dedicate it to the Indian Navy and my senior officers. Without their support, I wouldn't have made it," said Harpreet after bagging the top prize.Asked about the competition he and his partner faced from New Zealand's Poh and Gai, Harpreet said, "It was a very tough and it was difficult to perform in front of the home crowd. But I was well prepared for the Games." Vijay credited coach Smirnov Pavel for his success."Whenever there is a problem, he was there to help us," said Vijay.

However, woman shooter Shirur was disappointed not to have won the gold medal."We could have done better. In fact we were hoping for a better showing but I guess it just wasn't our day," Suma said after her event.On her teammate Kavitha, Suma said, "She is down with a fever and is also suffering cold and cough. It's not easy to shoot if you are not fit physically."

India won their second medal in shooting. Suma Shirur and Kavita Yadav finished third in 10 meter Air rifle pairs winning the bronze. Another medal came from Table-Tennis as Indian men's team defeated Nigeria 3-0 in contest for the third place.

Oz win the gold in the women's 4X100 mtr medley and England bags the silver while Canada settles for the bronze.
Men's 20KM Walk Australian Jared Tallent clinched the gold medal with a new Games record of 1:22:18. Another Australian Luke Adams clinched silver, clocking 1:22:31. India's Harminder Singh has won a bronze in the men's 20-km walk at the Commonwealth Games today on Saturday.
Women's 20KM walk: England's couple, Jared Jackson the gold in this event, clocking 1:34:22 and Australian Claire Tallent (1:36:55), wife of Jared, got the silver. Kenya's Wanjiru Grace (1:37:49) bagged the bronze.

Somdev easily beat Mat Ebden of Australia. The Indian won the first set 6-3 and quickly wrapped up the second set 6-1. India's Somdev Devvarman has entered the Men's Singles final. Somdev easily beat Mat Ebden of Australia. The Indian won the first set 6-3 and quickly wrapped up the second set 6-1. In women's singles, Sania Mirza moved into the final defeating Australia's Olivia Rogowska in three sets 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Australian swimmer Geoff Huegill capped a remarkable comeback to win the Gold medal in the Men's 100m Butterfly event on Friday.The 31-year-old grabbed the title in a record time of 51.69 seconds. Papua & New Guinea's Ryan Pini and Antony James of England tied for silver.

Women's Table Tennis
Singapore tightened its grip on Women's Table Tennis at Delhi 2010 as they clinched Gold in the Team event with a 3-0 win over India at the Yamuna Sports Complex on Friday evening.World number two Tianwei Feng (SIN) gave Singapore the perfect start as she dismissed the challenge of Mouma Das (IND) 11-5, 11-3, 9-11, 11-7, albeit after dropping her first set of this Games.
Yuegu Wang (SIN) then doubled Singapore's advantage with a clinical 11-7, 11-7, 11-5 victory over Shamini Kumaresan (IND).
Former Indian number one Poulomi Ghatak (IND) briefly raised local hopes as she took the first set 12-10 against 's Jiawei Li (SIN) in the third match. But she could not stem the Singapore tide as Li rallied to steal the match and Gold with a 10-12, 11-7, 11-9, 11-5 victory. It marks Li's third consecutive Gold in this event and her ninth Commonwealth Games medal overall after previous appearances in 2002 and 2006.Malaysia clinched their first Table Tennis Commonwealth Games medal with a Bronze after a 3-2 win over England in the morning.

Women freestyle wrestling.

Indian Women grapplers bagged 3 gold, two silver,one broze medal in freestyle wrestling. The star of the day undoubtedly was Alka, who pinned down her much fancied Canadian opponent Tonya in one minute and 49 seconds. Tonya, incidentally is a silver medalist at the Athens Olympics in 2004 and a bronze medal winner at the 2008 Games in Beijing."Definitely, it’s the most memorable victory for me. From today, the Nav Ratri has started and the Almighty was with me. She is a seasoned fighter and I knew it wasn’t going to be easy," said the Meerut girl, who has been the face of women’s wrestling in India. She has been a bronze medalist at the World Championship, bronze medalist at the Doha Asian Games. Wrestling runs in her blood as her father, uncles and brothers are all wrestlers. She also feels that perception about wrestlers have changed since Sushil Kumar’s bronze in the Beijing Olympics. "Sushil Pehelwanji should get the credit for earning respect for the wrestlers. Lot of people are taking up the sport and the popularity will only increase in the coming years," Alka said.

Anita, the second girl from Bhiwani after Geeta to win gold, it was the strategy plotted by her coach. "Having fought against her in the World Championship, my coach told me that my opponent usually retreats before attacking. I was told that moment she takes a few steps back, I should attack. It paid off," said Anita, who works as a constable with the Haryana police. It was a painful sight to watch a teary eyed Babita at the podium after she lost her bout pretty badly.

Anita won a gold in 67 kg category by defeating Canada's Buydens, Alka Tomar bagged gold in 59kg category by beating Canada's Tonya Verbeek who had won the gold in the previous games. Babita Kumari also clinched a silver medal in the 51kg category.She lost her 51 kg freestyle bout against Ifeoma Christi Nwoye of Nigeria by 4-6 margin. India thus finished with six medals, 3 gold, two silver and a bronze medal.

Shooting:
Indian shooters bagged three more golds with Gagan Narang and Imran Hasan Khan winning the men's 50-metre rifle three-position event, Vijay Kumar claiming top honours in the men's 25-metre rapid fire pistol event and Omkar Singh triumphing in the men's 10-metre air pistol event.

Mansher Singh and Manavjeet Sandhu won a silver medal for the country in the men's trap pair shooting.India march to seventeenth gold with Vijay Kumar tops in 25m rapid fire pistol event and Gurpreet Singh gets bronze in the event.Gagan Narang picked up his third gold medal with Imran Hasan Khan the pairs in 50m rifle event and India's gold win are 16 at this point of time.

CWG Gold in women's recurve archery event
Indian women archers,the troika of Deepika Kumari, Dola Banerjee and Bombayala Devi Laishram continued India's gold rush winning the gold metal in the women's recurve event of the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi on Friday.The women recurve team defeated England 207-206 in a thrilling final at the Yamuna Sport Complex here as India's gold medal tally swelled to 15.
In Archery, the Men's recurve team won Bronze today. The team comprising of Rahul Banerjee, Tarundeep Roy and Jayant Talukdar defeated England 221-218.

India swaps three gold and as many silver and bronze medals to firmly remain in second spot behind leaders Australia in the Commonwealth Games on Thursday.

(live-PR.com) - India Gold rush on Thursday.the three gold medals were garnered by the 25m and 10m in men pistol event with Gurpreet Singh being the common factor in both these pairs while Geeta grabbed the first gold in women's wrestling.

Gurpreet joined hands with Vijay Kumar to rake in the gold medal in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol (pairs) event before combining well with Omkar Singh to clinch the 10m air pistol (pairs) title to become a double gold winner.The shooting gold medals provided by the men's pistol wielders took the country's overall gold tally from the Dr Karni Singh range to 14, showing how much the marksmen and women have contributed in keeping India's flag flying high.

Grappler Geeta trounced her rival Emily Bensted of Australia in the 55 kg category final.
She entered the gold medal round by defeating Lovina Odohi Edward of Nigeria, but her teammate - 63kg grappler Suman Kundu - lost in the semi-finals.

Silver Medals came in India's fold in Men's double trap shooting ace Ronjon Sondhi got a silver medal along with the men's archery compound team and women's 48kg freestyle grappler Nirmala Devi.

The three bronze medals came in archery (women's team compound event), 77kg weightlifter Sudhir Kumar and Ashish Kumar, in men's gymnastics (floor exercise).

Thursday's basket of eight medals boosted India's overall tally to 14-11-9 and on course to their pre-Games target of achieving the runner-up spot behind overwhelming favourites Australia.

Australia were way ahead of the rest with 27-16-14 while England lagged behind in third place (8-15-10).

India win their three Gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Wrestling: Ravinder Singh wins Gold in Men's Greco-Roman 60 kg Final, Anil Kumar brought golds for India in the 96 kg and Sanjay brought gold in 74 kg Greco-Roman category.

Host India stands second in medal tally with total five gold and four silvers and two bronze as per AIR.bulletin.Australia stands top with nine gold in swimming.

Abhinav Bindra & Gagan Narang Pair won first gold medal for India in the Pairs 10 M Air Rifle Mens event at the Commonwealth Games on Tuesday.Bindra scored 595 and Narang scored 498. Indian shooters Abhinav Bindra and Gangan Narang fired in unison and shot a Games record 1193 in men's 10m air rifle event to give the country its first gold medal in the 19th Commonwealth Games here today.The pair together scored 1193 to break their own record, which they had set four years ago in Melbourne, by notching up 1189.World record holder Gagan, coming off a none-too-impressive season, shot a spectecular sequence of 99, 100, 100, 99, 100, 100 to total a grand 598, while Beijing Olympic gold medalist, Bindra's series read 100, 98 ,99, 100, 99, 99 for a total of 595 in the first shooting event of the Games.England's James Huckle and Kenny Parr (1174) won the silver medal while Bangladesh's Abdullah Hel Baki and Md. India were off to a perfect start in the tennis event of Commonwealth Games with Rohan Bopanna demolishing Robert Buyinza of Uganda in straight sets in the men's singles event in New Delhi on Monday.Bopanna was too good for a player, who has just one ranking point in the ATP charts, as he completed a 6-1 6-4 win in just one hour and two minutes in the first round.India put up a dominant display as all three singles players recorded easy wins and star pair of Leander Paes and Sania Mirza entered the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles.Top seeds Leander and Sania rounded off the day for India in splendid fashion by crushing St Lucia's duo Stacey Nykita Roheman and Alberton Richelieu in straight sets in just 39 minutes.
India's day saw the three-set defeat of Bopanna and Nirupama Sanjeev against the top seeded Australian pair of Paul Hanley and Anastasia Rodionova in the mixed doubles first round.

Weightlifting
Women lifters Soniya Chanu and Sandhya Devi Rani opened the medal chest for India by grabbing the silver and bronze in the 48 kg class.Augustina Nwaokolo of Nigeria won the gold with a record adding to its lustre.Men category Sukhen Dey and V Srinivasa Rao followed suit later by clinching the silver and bronze in the 56 kg class behind winner Ibrahim Amirul Hamizan of Malaysia.

Badminton
Indian shuttlers also kick-started their campaign with a 5-0 clean sweep over Kenya in the mixed team event.

Table Tennis
India, however, were stunned 3-2 by New Zealand in the women's table tennis team competition after having blanked Sri Lanka in their Group D campaign opener.

Archery
Indian archers began their campaign in style, with the men's and women's recurve teams finishing on top ahead of tomorrow's elimination round.Rahul Banerjee and Jayanta Talukdar topped the men's section, while Deepika Kumari and Dola Banerjee dominated the women's field.Former world champion Deepika scored 609 and that was enough to claim top position in women's individual recurve section, with compatriot Dola Banerjee finishing second best.
