ASSAM ASSOCIATION, DELHI CONDOLES THE DEATH OF NIDO TANIA
DEMANDS JUSTICE FOR HIM

New Delhi, 3rd February, 2014: Assam Association, Delhi, the premier socio-cultural organisation of the Assamese people in Delhi is deeply anguished at the recent incident of racial abuse in the heart of cosmopolitan city Delhi, fondly known as ‘Dilwalon ki Dilli’, which ended with the cruel death of an innocent boy from Arunachal Pradesh.

The Association deplores such discrimination shown by thoughtless elements in the society which destroy the social fabric and provoke the sentiment of marginalization for the people of the north eastern states or in that matter for any section of people.
We the members of Assam Association, Delhi empathise with the family members of the deceased to bear the agony and appeal to them to draw courage from the students and people from NER in Delhi protesting against the evil done to their son. We demand the Chief Minister and Lieutenant Governor of Delhi to take action to put the culprits behind the bar immediately without any further delay so that the faith of common people of Delhi is restored about their safety.
We also appeal to the people specially the socio-cultural organisations of Delhi to raise their voices against such inhuman behaviour and to spread awareness among Delhites to openly protest and prevent such racial abuse and discrimination.

AAP way of conduct in its forum  has been under scanner and blames are being made by their MLA and now senior diplomats make a complain about their rowdy behaviour thus she quits the AAP . Former diplomat and AAP’s founding member Madhu Bhaduri on Sunday “distanced” herself from the party alleging that she was heckled at a meeting for introducing a resolution condemning Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti’s role in a midnight raid, even as the outfit rubbished the charges.

“I have distance myself from the party. I am not with the party anymore,” Bhaduri said in a response to a question whether she has quit AAP. “There is no question of quitting because I don’t hold any post in the party. I am neither a national executive member nor a political affairs committee member,” she added. Bhaduri, a member of the party panel to chalk its foreign policy, had alleged she was heckled at Friday’s National Council meeting here when she tried to pass a resolution condemning Bharti’s midnight raid in the Khirki extension. “I had given a formal request to the party on January 23 for a resolution. Navy Chief Admiral (retd) Ramdas was also aware of it. On the day of the meeting, when the session was going on, I again went to Ramdas, who was speaking at that time and told him that I also wanted to speak. I had hardly started speaking and introduced a resolution when I was heckled,” Bhaduri claimed. “I’m not angry, but disappointed and disillusioned with the party. I am not concerned with whether Bharti would be removed or not, my only concern is humanity and that women are also human being… This party does not considered them as human beings,” she said. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has, however, rubbished the allegations that she was heckled. Elaborating on the day’s event, AAP spokesperson Dilip Pandey said, “Members were asked to ventilate their grievances, give suggestions for improvement of the party and Madhuiji also tried to put forth a point. She was even asked to come to podium and talk.” “But she was saying something which the party did not agree to and it was also not a part of the agenda of the National Council meeting. Therefore, she was asked to stop as others were waiting for their turn to speak,” he said. Claiming that Bhaduri was present even after the incident, Pandey asked, “Had she been heckled, do you think she should have waited all through the meeting?” Asked about the issue, senior party leader Ashutosh said, “She was the only member of the National Council who was called on the stage to put forth her views. She tried to put her views also. It is not always necessary that an individual’s views are in the line with the party.” “She was a founder member of the party. Our sympathies are with her. Moreover, AAP respects women the most and they are an important part of the organisation. I feel she should not have acted in haste,” he added.

Kejriwal was addressing AAP workers on a day his cabinet is to discuss the Jan Lokpal Bill that seeks to punish corruption with a maximum sentence of life in jail.
“People like Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi, who have spent Rs 500 crore to build their brands, will take that money back from us only. How can they deliver good governance?” Kejriwal asked.
“Our aim should be to not allow a single corrupt politician or even a family member to enter the House,” he said, urging the people to submit similar ‘corruption’ lists of their own.

We are extremely concerned about the increasingly severe clampdown and physical attacks on media in Egypt, which is hampering their ability to operate freely.

In recent months, there have been numerous reports of harassment, detention and prosecution of national and international journalists as well as violent attacks, including several that led to injuries to reporters trying to cover last weekend’s third anniversary of the Egyptian revolution. Unconfirmed reports suggest that several journalists were wounded by live fire as well as rubber bullets last Saturday, some of which may have been fired by opponents of the government as well as by police and other government forces. This accentuates the difficult and increasingly dangerous environment for journalists trying to carry out their work in the country.

A significant number of other journalists covering events related to the anniversary were detained by the authorities, although most are reported to have now been released.

Wednesday’s announcement that the Egyptian Prosecutor-General intends to bring to trial 16 local and 4 foreign journalists alleged to have worked for the international broadcaster Al Jazeera, on vague charges including “aiding a terrorist group” and “harming the national interest”, is also of great concern.

It has not only placed a sharp focus on the systematic targeting of Al Jazeera staff – five of whom are actually in custody -- since the fall of the previous government last July, but also led to increased fears among the media in general, both national and international, which is clearly deeply detrimental to freedom of expression and opinion.

Journalists working for other media organizations have reported being attacked by government supporters after being accused of working for Al Jazeera. A video has also emerged which appears to show a police officer threatening a camera crew working for another TV station that, if they did not stop filming, he would tell bystanders they worked for Al Jazeera so that they would be attacked. If confirmed, this lends credence to allegations that the anti-Al Jazeera campaign in Egypt is, on occasion, amounting to incitement to violence.

We have also received numerous reports of intimidation of journalists, who have had their equipment seized, and in some cases of local journalists who have been sacked for reporting on sensitive issues. There are also reports of journalists in detention being subjected to ill-treatment or being held in conditions that are not in line with international human rights standards.

We urge the Egyptian authorities to promptly release all journalists imprisoned for carrying out legitimate news reporting activities in exercise of their fundamental human rights. It is the State’s obligation to ensure that the right to freedom of expression is respected, and that journalists are able to report on diverse views and issues surrounding the current situation in Egypt.

All reports of violence against journalists, including the attacks on 25 January, must be independently and transparently investigated.
2)   Ukraine
We welcome the beginning of dialogue between the President and the opposition. We call for this dialogue to be sustainable, inclusive and grounded on the full respect of international human rights treaties ratified by Ukraine and political commitments made through the Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review, last March. 
We also welcome the abolition by the Ukrainian parliament earlier this week of the laws passed on January 16, which unnecessarily restricted the exercise of the rights to freedom of assembly, association and speech, as well as the operation of NGOs. We call upon the President of Ukraine to sign the new law abolishing the legislative package of January 16. 

However we are appalled by the deaths reported in recent days in Kiev, which should be promptly, thoroughly and independently investigated. We are also calling for an investigation into reports of kidnappings and torture.  

We reiterate our call to the Government and protesters to exercise restraint and create conditions for dialogue and reconciliation. International human rights norms and Ukraine's compliance with these standards and its obligations pertaining to human rights must be at the centre of any future solutions and reconciliation processes.

Arvind Kejriwal the politician in the making thinks that by making announcements for drawing people attention and making public facing is under firm media scanner. He needs first to attend to the sovereignty of the common man and his ill fated public darbar shows his strength at the grass root level ,he in unable to navigate with common people and act like a manger to listen to subjects of his interest to utter from his lucrative business of politics which he designed by cheating his mentor Anna Hazare and investing it with foreign PR keeping aside all norms of RBI.Arvind level by his colleagues the cheat further prepares list of most corrupt politicians in the country but fails to deliver on his promises to take action against whom he waged war during election time. In another election he further draws a list of corrupt person so as to be savior of people of India but the media knows his sweet words may give cheap publicity to person with mammoth plans but his habit of not doing his work or  business in righteous way. Most arrogant politicians as is being described by his friends and colleagues work for his glory and fooling the people.His lame excuses and his spoil sport is being  watched   with interest by the media.

 

Media thus finds his press conference bunch of lies and declares his promises as his incomplete assignments and is laudable for its rebuffs from Congress. Congress in its  press conference remarked on Friday, in a rebuff to Arvind Kejriwal for drawing a list of “corrupt” politicians that also included Rahul Gandhi.
“The list requires only two things. Pen and paper and a subjective mind. This Chief Minister had earlier showed that he had scant regard for rules.
“We are not a justice, jury and prosecutor rolled into one. We do not have to confess that we are anarchist as this Chief Minister seems to have done,” party spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi told reporters at the AICC briefing.
Singhvi said Congress’ support to AAP government in Delhi continues because it did not want the government to fall for want of support from its eight MLAs though there are “differences on 99 percent issues” between the two parties.
He said that the process to fight corruption is like bringing the RTI, Lokpal bill and and other similar measures, which the UPA government has done. “Merely naming somebody hanging from the tree is not the legal process,” he said.
Asked about the proposed bill of Kejriwal’s party on Delhi Lokayukta, Singhvi said, “After thorough discussion, we have passed a Lokpal bill. A full stop now needs to be put somewhere. We should now concentrate on how to implement that.
As far as Lokayukta in Delhi is concerned, the Chief Minister is free to do what he deems fit.”
A Congress leader speaking on the condition of anonymity said that Lokpal bill passed by the central government is the touchstone as it has also been approved by Anna Hazare and sounded dismissive about “any super Anna bill”, a veiled reference to Kejriwal’s plans to bring further amendments.
Targeting Rahul Gandhi, Kejriwal on Friday accused him of being corrupt and said the party will field candidates against him, UPA ministers and leaders of other parties.
He also drew up a list of ‘corrupt’ politicians in which Gandhi and several UPA ministers figured.

 

Dear Madhu,

I think you and most of us are barking the wrong tree as none of these so called savior of our motherland has any idea what is development,. Law and Order or governing. Let us take this AAP party and look at all the leaders. Are they honest , maybe from their own standard or comparing with other thieves.

Can Kejerwal explain of his loan taken from Govt when he was a GOI employee and never paid himself . Yes some one else paid for him and what is in for this friend? My next observation of his tactics to mislead the poor snake oil of free water and power. He does know that our nation will take any dole by anyone as long as they don’t have to work. He himself take the same route to reach where he is.

 

Mr. BHushan being an attorney gave his absence from Dharna because he was busy at the court but he never condemn the methods used to create anarchy and even threat to celebration of Republic Day. Does the freedom of India has no meaning for this group or in name of democracy they want to make a the nation a laughing stock.One has to ask why has he not given proper advise or guided the party in right course.

 

Mr. Bharati takes the cake and explanation with attachment with letter from Mr. Nilesh Patel as defence is not laughable but an insult to Minister of Law and Order Mr. BhARTI. It talks of some reports to police by neighbors but it doesnot state that you walkin with your goons ar midnight to other people house and even force a women to urinate in public for you. He has created the atmosphere of hate against the Africans who are living there. Should he not go to GOI and ask for their legality in India?? Is he elected to taker Law in his land.  Did he forget how we felt about Devyani arrest in New York. How will Mr. Bharati feel if some African country decided to walk into some Indian house at midnight and behave like him. Instead of apologizing and showing some back bone , he has defied the Law.

Where is the self dignity and does India need such people to be in power???

 

I presume the old saying that what we deserve we gewt and we elect them over and over again. One wonder that nation might be called a free India but in reality anarchy is all round whether it is the corruption, Lack of Law and Order , rapes etc. conditions are not getting better and than we continue to elect al the people with lack of any ethics. The country is going downhill and with passing year more dark clouds of communal hate, unchecked population growth ,lack of infrastructure, bundhs, burning of buses and rail cars keeps it speed.

One has to ask oneself what is wrong with our nation and with all the brain power and resources why are we the worst lot. We cannot see the elephant amongst us .

 

Before I close I must ask the readers to kindly tell me where the money for free water and power is going to come???GOI under congress/UPA threw millions of subsidy for diesel, keroesean,petrol.

Celebrate Diversity in Nature at the specially designed film festival & forum begins

The 5 day biodiversity gala features film festival, forums, exhibitions, musical festival, food festival, green bazaar and many more at the IGNCA Lawns.

In a completely new format, a five day green festival is being organised at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) in New Delhi from (Thursday – Monday) which started from Jan 30, 2014.

For the first time in the world, a film festival & forum is being organized in open grounds (not in auditoriums). Inspired from the Jaipur Literature Festival and in its endeavour to mainstream biodiversity issues to general public, this specially curated festival is spread across 27 acres of IGNCA campus (near India Gate and Central Secretariat Metro Station).

Special venues and layouts are being created to make it people friendly and highly engaging to both general public and also for the professionals in this field.  The six main venues in this festival are : 1) International Screen – where all best of world cinema and the nominated international films will be screened; 2) ONGC Lawn where film screenings with open forums with film makers & experts is scheduled; 3) Japan Lawn is situated in the amphitheatre and will host all the important thematic sessions; 4) UNDP & GIZ Lawn for Coastal and Marine Biodiversity will have screenings and thematic discussions; 5) CMS lawn will have discussions and media interactions; 6) Young Champions Lawn is a special lawn  dedicated section solely for the youth with activities such as film screenings for children, interactive sessions with filmmakers, workshops on  puppetry  and paper mache & crafts, painting competition, and biodiversity games.

The festival hosted a high profile Inaugural Ceremony on the evening of Jan 30, 2014.Mr. K.S Rao Union Minister for Textiles graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.  Dr Karan Singh, MP and President, ICCSR and Ms. Lise Grande, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in India was also present at the inaugural ceremony. Mr. V B Mathur, Senior Professor & Dean, Wildlife Institute of India (WII) and Mr A S Panneerselvan, Executive Director, PANOS South Asia were among the special invitees.

Ms. Vijaya Mulay, veteran documentary filmmaker was awarded with the CMS VATAVARAN Lifetime Achievement Award for her outstanding contribution in filmmaking. CMS VATAVARAN Prithvi Ratna Award was given to Mr. Sanjay Barnela, filmmaker for outstanding contribution to nature and conservation filming throughout their career which has resulted in bringing change in perception, practice and policy with regards to environment.  CMS VATAVARAN also presented the PSA CMS Media Excellence Awards for excellence in environment reporting. This year, the awards was  presented to Ms. Juhi Chaudhury (CNN IBN), Ms. Chandan Haygunde (Indian Express, Pune), Amantha Perrera (Sri Lanka) and Subhra Priyadarshini (India)

The festival also promises Along with film screenings and thematic discussions there will also be book launches, live demos on aerial photography, exhibitions, film booth, food court, green haat (shopping), music festival, interesting art installations, 40 ft life size whale shark & Gaju on display for promoting environment sensitivity at scale.

‘Kalpvriksh’ directed by Manika Sharma and starring Shabana Azmi will be screened at 4:30 pm the 7th CMS VATAVARAN – Asia’s largest film festival and forum on environment & wildlife. Noted film actor Shabana Azmi was present in the forum. The film session also had producer Raajaysh Chetwal and its director Manika Sharma for an open forum.

The festival theme this year is mainstreaming biodiversity conservation at different levels to promote living in harmony with nature. Based on this theme, three schools in Delhi (The Shri Ram Schools, Sri Venkateshwar International School and Bloom Public School) are decorating the entire venue with their art, crafts and sculptures.

In all, during this five day festival, these specially designed and constructed thematic lawns will showcase 150 films and more than 70 eminent speakers in various 48 thematic sessions and expert discussions. Organisations and individuals working across the country on various biodiversity conservation efforts will be participating in this festival. Renowned conservationists, policy makers and the concerned communities will also be engaged in deliberations and discourses on the range of the sub themes and cross cutting issues.  Amol Palekar (actor and director),  Shabana Azmi (film actor), Belinda Wright (founder of WPSI), Bahar Dutt (environment journalist), Shekhar Dattari (wildlife filmmaker), Dr Raghuwat Chundawat (conservation biologist), Sunita Narain (activist), Kartikeya Sarabhai (environment educator), Ranjit Lal (children’s author and columnist); Vivek Menon (conservationist);  are some of the confirmed speakers at this forum.

AAP Party in Delhi a party of unemployed youths lower class whose hopes have nosedived but find easy way to be associated with. Party has failed even to pay to their volunteers even meagre amount to sustain further has not been able to provide food or proper working structure for the party. Arvind the only voice projected with funds and some incongruous statements which remains still unanswered is the quick fix of the party.  

 A political party indulging in self praise has failed to bring neutral observes as Lokpal on the working of AAP as they had promised before coming to power,their appointment of lokpal which is being ensigaed by various e channels is not very much different from the federal structure.Thus AAP is getting disconnected from Delhi people  every day and their loud mouth spokesperson further dilute their popularity.people hopes have been dashed to ground and has become a laughing stock of political class of new tugs as roadside herb sellers and make fast buck.
Many political experts allege that their whole intention is to gather money, mint money  on causes with need total overhaul and is beyond AAP.

In their release to media person they further added, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) strongly condemns the nefarious attempts by a Congress MLA to disrupt the press conference of Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday.

MLA Asif Mohammad Khan inappropriately barged into a press briefing at the Delhi Secretariat and indulged in highly objectionable behavior, which is totally unbecoming of an elected representative.

He raised the issue of Batla House encounter and the AAP would like to set the record straight. This encounter had taken place on 19 September 2008, when there were Congress governments in Delhi as well as at the Centre.

The AAP had not come into existence till then, but it was noted lawyer and human rights activist, Prashant Bhushan (now a national executive member of the AAP) who had filed a petition in the Delhi High Court seeking an independent investigation into this encounter.

The High Court asked the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to look into the matter. The NHRC accepted the probe report of the Delhi Police Crime Branch. This was again challenged by Mr Bhushan in the Supreme Court.

A three judge bench of the Supreme Court, headed by the then Chief Justice of India KG Balakrishnan dismissed the petition seeking an independent/judicial inquiry into the encounter.

The Supreme Court ruled that no further probes were required in this matter.

Mr Asif has tried to spread a lot of falsehoods today. It is important to rebut these false allegations. Without reading the AAP manifesto, he has given statements that it promises a probe into this encounter. THERE IS NO SUCH MENTION IN THE AAP MANIFESTO.    

Mr Asif needs to answer the question as to why he joined the Congress Party in August 2013 after having won the 2008 assembly election on the RJD ticket, despite the fact that Congress governments of Delhi and even the centre had termed the encounter as genuine in the High Court and the Supreme Court.

It is really beyond reasonable understanding that he chose to contest on the ticket of a party which supported the encounter and opposed any attempt to get it probed and is seeking answers from a government which believes in justice for all and discrimination against none.

Before questioniong others, Mr Asif should spell out the stand of the party to which he belongs, on this issue.

 The AAP makes it clear that it stands committed for justice to all sections of the society and is firmly against implication of innocents in false cases, irrespective of their religion, region or caste.
