First phase of the Bihar Assembly polls ends
With tight security, an estimated 54.31 percent of the 1.07 crore voters on Thursday exercised their franchise in the first phase of the Bihar Assembly polls in 47 of the 243 seats.DIG and Commissioner of Purnia division along with Special Task Force commandos carried out aerial patrol in two helicopters during polling.
While 85 percent of booths were manned by central paramilitary forces and armed police from other states, the rest were guarded by the Bihar Military Police.
The state's borders with Nepal and West Bengal were sealed.

NIIT Technologies reports on robust growth
NIIT Technologies Limited, pioneer IT solutions organization, on road to continue its growth momentum with its second quarter result for the quarter ended 30th September, 2010, showing consolidated revenues of Rs.324.6 Crores, up 11.4% over the previous quarter.
Operating Profits stood at Rs.59.3 Crores and Profit After Tax at Rs.43.5 Crores.
“We experienced all round sequential growth from all geographies and in every industry segment of focus”, said Mr. Arvind Thakur, CEO, NIIT Technologies Ltd. “Revenues grew 43% over the same period last year” added Mr. Thakur.
It may be recollected that the Company initiated a major turnkey project for the Border Security Force (BSF) in India in the last quarter. As the project requires provisioning for infrastructure significant hardware; components were delivered as part of the engagement during the quarter. For the purpose of subsequent revenue analysis, bought out elements in the project have been excluded.
Revenues excluding BSF bought outs stood at Rs.270.9 Crores up 19.7% YoY, representing a sequential growth of 9.9%. Revenue share from each geography remained unchanged representing an all round sequential growth in every region serviced by the Company. US contributed to 36% of revenues, EMEA to 35%, APAC 13%, and India 16%.
There was all round sequential growth in each vertical segment as well. BFSI contributing to 42% of the total revenue share, Travel & Transport increased its share to 31%; while Manufacturing/Distribution was at 10%. Government revenues stood at 9% of the mix.
60m USD of fresh order intake, including addition of three significant customers; two in Travel and one in Insurance space, has resulted in an order book executable over the next 12 months of 141m USD.
“Existing customers deepened their engagements resulting in 409 net additions to staff during the quarter, the highest ever in any single quarter for the Company”, said Mr. Rajendra S Pawar, Chairman, NIIT Technologies Ltd.
To support its growing workforce which now stands at 4994 people, the Company has instituted many innovative HR practices. The American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) ranked NIIT Technologies Limited at number 3 globally in the 2010 ASTD ‘BEST’ Awards. BEST Awards recognize organizations that demonstrate enterprise-wide success through employee learning and development.

CWG mega games event appeared from last three months,a complete disaster, a national shame and embarrassment however has received heap of praises from national and International media for their twin performance both in the field by the Indian contingent the players,the mentors and creating the mammoth stadiums games village in form infrastructure but their maintenance and their use remain mystical question unanswered unless proved otherwise.(live-PR.com) - As at the grand opening ceremony 12 days ago, all the controversies that had dogged the Games corruption, filth, snakes, mismanagement were momentarily forgotten because some 5000 athletes from 71 countries had sportingly competed for 826 medals of which India won 101, including 38 gold, its highest ever, to be the second in the tally behind Australia:

India win 31st CWG Gold : 9 th day

India completed an unprecedented success in athletics events in the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi as they collected one gold and four bronze on Tuesday to take their medal count to 12.Indian women's 4x400m relay team added another gold to the one won Monday by discus thrower Krishna Poonia as medals rained for the home country in front of a cheering near-capacity crowd at the Jawaharalal Nehru Stadium.

There was a three-way tie among India, Australia and Canada in the women's 10 metre air pistol with all the teams logging 759 points.India, with Heena shooting 384 and Annu logging 375, got the gold on the basis of count back after having the same number of perfect 10s (21) as Australia while Canada took the bronze with the least number of perfect 10s (14) among the three.

England Michael Gault and Iqbal Ubhi won the bronze with 1,098.The shooting title won by Heena and Annu helped India create a new Games mark on the ninth day of competitions for the number of gold medals won in a single Commonwealth Games. India had returned home from the Manchester Games eight years ago with 30 gold medals.
It was also the 14th gold won by India in shooting. They have also won 10 silver and 3 bronze medals.The three medals won today boosted India's medal haul to 31 gold, 25 silver and 28 bronze, and kept them firmly in the second position ahead of third-placed England (28-49-36) and fourth-placed Canada (23-15-29).
Gagan Narang, already with four gold to his credit, will be gunning for his fifth today in the men's 50m rifle prone pairs event with Hariom Singh.The men's and women's 4x100m relay teams, triple jumper Renjith Maheswary and javelin thrower Kashinath Naik added a bronze each.
After Tuesday's events, only men and women's marathon remained in the athletics competition.In terms of number of medals won, it turned out to be the most productive day for India.

The women's 4X400m relay quartet of Manjeet Kaur, Sini Jose, Ashwini Akkunji and Mandeep Kaur set the track ablaze by winning the race in 3:27.77, ahead of Nigeria (3:28.72) and England (3:29.51).Manjeet was running second at the end of first leg and Jose maintained it.Akkunji then took India to lead with a fast run in the third leg before Mandeep saw off a late surge from a Nigerian to cross the finishing line ahead of the rest.
There were scenes of wild celebration among the Indian officials present at the VIP stand and among the vociferous crowd.
National coach Bahadur Singh termed it as the beginning of India's emergence as an athletics power."We have shown that we can win medals at the highest level. Athletics competition in the Commonwealth Games is of high standard. If we maintain this level for another 3-4 years, India can become an athletics power," Bahadur told a news agency.
The medal-surge began with the women's 4x100m relay team of Geetha Satti, Srabani Nanda, P K Priya and H M Jyothi finishing third in a photo finish with a timing of 45.25secs, just one-hundredth of a second behind second-placed Ghana (45.24secs).England won gold in 44.19secs.It looked like India's final-leg runner H M Jyothi would cross the finishing line at second but Ghanaian Janet Amponsah did better and the home team had to be content with a bronze.India clocked 45.25secs, while Ghana clocked 45.24secs.
The men's quartet of Rahamatulla Molla, Krishnakumar Rane, Shammer Mon and Mohd Abdul Qureshi smashed the national record with a timing of 38.89secs.The same quartet had set a national record of 39.00secs in the semifinals on Monday.India were lagging behind in the first and second legs but Mon took them to fourth place by the end of third leg in the field of eight.Qureshi beat a runner in the final leg to take India to bronze. England won the gold in 38.74secs while Jamaica settled for a silver in 38.79secs.

India defeated England 5-4 on penalty strokes in a stunning semi-final comeback on Tuesday to move into a Commonwealth Games field hockey final against defending champion Australia.
A large crowd of 19,000 supporters went wild and gave the team a standing ovation when goalkeeper Bharat Kumar stopped Glenn Kirkham's third penalty stroke and Shivendra Kumar netted the final one.
World champion Australia beat New Zealand 6-2 in the earlier semi-final.
In a nighttime match that grabbed the focus in New Delhi, India rallied from a two-goal deficit to level 3-3 in regulation time. Striker Tushar Khandkar twice came close to scoring the golden goal during extra time but England goalkeeper James Fair stood firm under the bar.
Ace penalty corner specialist Sandeep Singh's shot off a penalty corner also went wide during the first half of extra time.
For England, Ashley Jackson scored twice off the penalty corners on either side of the halftime and also hit the upright off the fourth to miss a hat-trick.Simon Mantell's powerful drag flick off an indirect penalty corner also went into the net as England led 3-1.But India surged back through Vikram Pillay and Saravanjit Singh's deflection and made numerous attacks in the last five minutes but could not get the match winner.
Saravanjit Singh had shot India ahead off the only first-half short corner in the 19th minute when Dhananjay Mahadik's push was stopped by Fair, but gave enough time to Saravanjit to dab the ball in.

In the earlier semi-final, Simon Orchard and Glenn Turner scored two goals apiece for Australia and kept the reigning champions on course for a fourth successive gold medal.

India defeated England 5-4 on penalty strokes in a stunning semi-final comeback on Tuesday to move into a Commonwealth Games field hockey final against defending champion Australia.
A large crowd of 19,000 supporters went wild and gave the team a standing ovation when goalkeeper Bharat Kumar stopped Glenn Kirkham's third penalty stroke and Shivendra Kumar netted the final one.
World champion Australia beat New Zealand 6-2 in the earlier semi-final.
In a nighttime match that grabbed the focus in New Delhi, India rallied from a two-goal deficit to level 3-3 in regulation time. Striker Tushar Khandkar twice came close to scoring the golden goal during extra time but England goalkeeper James Fair stood firm under the bar.
Ace penalty corner specialist Sandeep Singh's shot off a penalty corner also went wide during the first half of extra time.

Teenager Deepika Kumari and Rahul Banerjee won gold medals in individual recurve events on the last day of the competition yesterday to help India end their campaign in archery with three golds, one silver and four bronze medals. Besides these two titles, India also bagged two bronze in archery through senior pros Dola Banerjee and Jayanta Talukdar in the individual recurve event.
In Wrestling, World freestyle champion Sushil Kumar came up with thundering display that fetched him a gold in the 66 kg class. Joginder Kumar won the silver in the Super Heavy weight class, while Anuj Kumar grabbed the silver in the 84 kilogramme division. Anil Kumar added a Bronze in the 55 kg category.
Pistol shooter Harpreet Singh and tennis player Somdev Devvarman were the others to fetch gold medals to boost the country's overall tally to 29, just one short of their record tally of 30 won eight years ago at Manchester.
Vijay Kumar added a Silver in the Men's 25 metres centrefire pistol shooting, while Manavjeet Singh Sandhu bagged a bronze in trap shooting. Men's 20KM Walk Australian Jared Tallent clinched the gold medal with a new Games record of 1:22:18. Another Australian Luke Adams clinched silver, clocking 1:22:31. India's Harminder Singh has won a bronze in the men's 20-km walk at the Commonwealth Games today on Saturday.

India's Somdev Devvarman has entered the Men's Singles final. Somdev easily beat Mat Ebden of Australia. The Indian won the first set 6-3 and quickly wrapped up the second set 6-1. In women's singles, Sania Mirza moved into the final defeating Australia's Olivia Rogowska in three sets 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Australian swimmer Geoff Huegill capped a remarkable comeback to win the Gold medal in the Men's 100m Butterfly event on Friday.The 31-year-old grabbed the title in a record time of 51.69 seconds. Papua & New Guinea's Ryan Pini and Antony James of England tied for silver.

From today, the Nav Ratri has started and the Almighty was with me. She is a seasoned fighter and I knew it wasn’t going to be easy," said the Meerut girl, who has been the face of women’s wrestling in India. She has been a bronze medalist at the World Championship, bronze medalist at the Doha Asian Games. Wrestling runs in her blood as her father, uncles and brothers are all wrestlers. She also feels that perception about wrestlers have changed since Sushil Kumar’s bronze in the Beijing Olympics. "Sushil Pehelwanji should get the credit for earning respect for the wrestlers. Lot of people are taking up the sport and the popularity will only increase in the coming years," Alka said.

India were off to a perfect start in the tennis event of Commonwealth Games with Rohan Bopanna demolishing Robert Buyinza of Uganda in straight sets in the men's singles event in New Delhi on Monday.Bopanna was too good for a player, who has just one ranking point in the ATP charts, as he completed a 6-1 6-4 win in just one hour and two minutes in the first round.India put up a dominant display as all three singles players recorded easy wins and star pair of Leander Paes and Sania Mirza entered the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles.Top seeds Leander and Sania rounded off the day for India in splendid fashion by crushing St Lucia's duo Stacey Nykita Roheman and Alberton Richelieu in straight sets in just 39 minutes.

Abhinav Bindra & Gagan Narang Pair won first gold medal for India in the Pairs 10 M Air Rifle Mens event at the Commonwealth Games on Tuesday.Bindra scored 595 and Narang scored 498. Indian shooters Abhinav Bindra and Gangan Narang fired in unison and shot a Games record 1193 in men's 10m air rifle event to give the country its first gold medal in the 19th Commonwealth Games here today.The pair together scored 1193 to break their own record, which they had set four years ago in Melbourne, by notching up 1189.World record holder Gagan, coming off a none-too-impressive season, shot a spectecular sequence of 99, 100, 100, 99, 100, 100 to total a grand 598, while Beijing Olympic gold medalist, Bindra's series read 100, 98 ,99, 100, 99, 99 for a total of 595 in the first shooting event of the Games.England's James Huckle and Kenny Parr (1174) won the silver medal while Bangladesh's Abdullah Hel Baki and Md. India were off to a perfect start in the tennis event of Commonwealth Games with Rohan Bopanna demolishing Robert Buyinza of Uganda in straight sets in the men's singles event in New Delhi on Monday.Bopanna was too good for a player, who has just one ranking point in the ATP charts, as he completed a 6-1 6-4 win in just one hour and two minutes in the first round.India put up a dominant display as all three singles players recorded easy wins and star pair of Leander Paes and Sania Mirza entered the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles.Top seeds Leander and Sania rounded off the day for India in splendid fashion by crushing St Lucia's duo Stacey Nykita Roheman and Alberton Richelieu in straight sets in just 39 minutes.
India's day saw the three-set defeat of Bopanna and Nirupama Sanjeev against the top seeded Australian pair of Paul Hanley and Anastasia Rodionova in the mixed doubles first round.
Weightlifting
Women lifters Soniya Chanu and Sandhya Devi Rani opened the medal chest for India by grabbing the silver and bronze in the 48 kg class.Augustina Nwaokolo of Nigeria won the gold with a record adding to its lustre.Men category Sukhen Dey and V Srinivasa Rao followed suit later by clinching the silver and bronze in the 56 kg class behind winner Ibrahim Amirul Hamizan of Malaysia.
Badminton
Indian shuttlers also kick-started their campaign with a 5-0 clean sweep over Kenya in the mixed team event.
Table Tennis
India, however, were stunned 3-2 by New Zealand in the women's table tennis team competition after having blanked Sri Lanka in their Group D campaign opener.
Archery
Indian archers began their campaign in style, with the men's and women's recurve teams finishing on top ahead of tomorrow's elimination round.Rahul Banerjee and Jayanta Talukdar topped the men's section, while Deepika Kumari and Dola Banerjee dominated the women's field.Former world champion Deepika scored 609 and that was enough to claim top position in women's individual recurve section, with compatriot Dola Banerjee finishing second best.

"We will try to double the quantum of trade between India and France to USD 12 billion," Food Processing Industry Minister Subodh Kant Sahai told reporters after a delegation- level talk with French team led by its Agriculture Minister Bruno Le Maire.
Subodh said that two delegates discussed in details of teaming joint ventures particularly in the field of food processing sector and an MOU could be signed in this regard when France President Nicolas Sarkozy visits New Delhi in the first week of December this year.

Nksagar-Sagar Media - New Delhi, 2 October 2010: Wales Chef de Mission Chris Jenkins is very impressed with the ‘fantastic timing’ of getting the Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi Village ready to welcome the international athletes.“I am really quite impressed with the transition,” Jenkins said. “I had come here two weeks ago and thing were really quite chaotic. But the athletes who came here three days ago are absolutely delighted with the residential wings and also the training facilities. The food is also quite good.”
(live-PR.com) - Wales Chef de Mission Chris Jenkins added “The venues are outstanding and we are really looking forward to competing there,” he added.The team is hoping to double their gold count at Delhi 2010. According to team manager Brian Davies, Wales would look to at least double their haul of three gold medals won at the previous Games at Melbourne.
Wales has come in with about 150 athletes who will participate in archery, badminton, lawn bowls, wrestling, women’s hockey, shooting and table tennis.
Wales first took part in the Commonwealth Games (then the British Empire Games) in the inaugural 1930 edition and has since taken part in all of them. Their best showing came in the Auckland Games in 1990 where they finished with a haul of 25 medals including 10 gold. In Melbourne, Wales bagged 19 medals but only three of them gold.
One of those hoping to add to this tally is David Phelps, Melbourne CWG gold medallist. According to him, representing Wales in the Commonwealth Games was always preferable to representing Britain since the Commonwealth Games is the only competition where Wales represents itself as a country. Team Wales therefore never contemplated a pull out or even a readjusting of travel plans.
Asked about the top medal prospects, Davies, Wales, apart from defending champions Michaela Breeze (women’s weightlifting), long distance swimming great David Davies who will compete in 400m and 1500m freestyle and Phelps, also picked rising 21-year-old discus star Bratt Morse and athlete Christian Malcolm (men’s 200m) as probable contenders.
