Gurki Shergill and R Murthy took the top honours in round two of the SRF All India Professional Golf Matchplay Championship 2011. While Gurki Shergill of Pune caused the biggest upset of the day by ending third seed Vijay Kumar’s title hopes,
Bangalore’s R Murthy got past Asian Tour regular Sujjan Singh.
Gaurav Pratap Singh, Rudresh Sharma and Rafick Ali Mollah also
recorded wins against much higher-ranked opponents at the Delhi Golf
Club (DGC) on Wednesday.Gurki Shergill dominated his match against Lucknow’s Vijay Kumar, a former Indian Open and All India Matchplay champion, from the very
outset. Gurki took control with wins on the second, fifth, seventh and eighth holes to be four ahead at the turn. Vijay pulled one back with a win on the 12th hole but Shergill eventually prevailed 5 & 3 with wins on the 14th and 15th holes against the veteran.Gurki, who is seeded 30th, thus registered his second thumping win of the tournament. The 32-year-old had earlier beaten Anirudh Goyal 5 & 4 in the first round.
Shergill said, “It was a highly satisfying round for me. I was very consistent and hit most of the fairways. I had just one birdie on the fifth, but more importantly, I did not drop a stroke except on the 12th. I did well to drive home the advantage as Vijay was struggling to find the fairways.”
R Murthy’s hot putter helped him defeat Sujjan Singh of Chandigarh by a margin of 3 & 1. Murthy, the 20th seed, sank a couple of 40 feet birdie putts on his way to victory against the 13th seed Sujjan, a winner on the Aircel PGTI.
Top seed Ashok Kumar of the DGC won a close encounter against Bangladesh’s Md Zamal Hossain Mollah as the scoreline read 1 Up in favour of the former.Ashok, the 2007 & 2009 SRF Matchplay champion, will take on Harendra Gupta of Chandigarh in the pre-quarter finals. Gupta’s 7 & 6 win against Sudhir Sharma went down as the biggest victory margin of the day.
Second seed Mukesh Kumar of Mhow coasted to a 5 & 4 win against Toran Bikram Shahi of Nepal.Mukesh will face Rudresh Sharma of the DGC in the round of 16.
Rudresh, the 50th seed, ousted 18th seed Feroz Ali Mollah of Kolkata,another former Indian Open and multiple All India Matchplay champion, with a 1 Up victory.
Noida’s Gaurav Pratap Singh went through to the pre-quarters after
beating the seasoned Sanjay Kumar 3 & 2. Gaurav will meet the DGC’s
Chiragh Kumar in the next round as Chiragh came through 2 & 1 against
Vishal Singh of Jaipur.
Kolkata’s Raju Ali Mollah and Md Islam of Patna were involved in the
closest and longest match of the day. Raju won it on the 22nd hole
(fourth playoff hole). Raju will now come up against his uncle Rafick
Ali Mollah on Thursday.
Rafick Ali Mollah of Kolkata got the better of another Kolkata golfer
Shankar Das with a 4 & 3 margin.
DGC’s Suleman Ali, who defeated defending champion Shamim Khan in
round one, could not repeat his heroics on day two. Suleman lost out
to Shaurya Singh (1 Up) of the Army Golf Course, Delhi. Shaurya will
face R Murthy in the last 16.
Digvijay Singh of the DLF Golf & Country Club cruised past M Dharma of

India, Uzbekistan to sign over dozen agreements
May 17,2011-New Delhi:Over a dozen agreements are likely to be signed between India and Uzbekistan in New Delhi tomorrow. The important sectors include oil and gas, minerals and metals,pharmaceuticals, information and communication technology,besides hydrocarbon, agriculture, cotton and other fields.
The agreements will be signed following the delegation level talks between the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and the visiting Uzbekistan President Islam Karimov. Both the countries will also discuss the security scenario in the region besides comprehensive brainstorming on how to bring peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Discussions are also likely on the six-nation Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, SCO, which India is keen on joining to promote transportation and energy links with Central Asia, Russia and China.
Karimov is arriving in New Delhi this evening on a two-day state visit. He will be given a ceremonial reception at the Forecourts of Rashtrapati Bhavan tomorrow. He will also call on the Vice President and the leader of opposition. President Pratibha Devisingh Patil will host a banquet in his honour.

CONSTRUCTION OF UNDERGROUND PARKING COMPLEX IN GURUDWARA RAKAB GANJ SAHIB

Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Managing Committee’s (DSGMC) proposal to construct a huge underground parking structure at Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib at a colossal cost of Rs.335 Crores, needs deliberate analysis and review. It would be prudent for the August Body, to take into consideration following aspects:-
· Only on few occasions including Gurpurabs, in a year, Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib draws large congregation. The problem of parking then gets accentuated with vehicles spilling over, to all the adjoining roads. It causes great inconvenience to the Sangat and generates public annoyance, to tarnishing our image and community earns a ‘Bad Name’.
· On routine days, number of pilgrims/ devotees visiting the sacred venue is limited, requiring parking space for not more than 50-60 vehicles.
· Parking for special functions, could be arranged, in collaboration with civic authorities at Talkatora garden and Boat Club Parking lot. The space at Bangla Sahib could also be utilized. Management could interface a ‘Park and Ride’ Shuttle service with such arrangements.
· Plans for a large underground parking at Rakab Ganj Sahib could therefore, be revised by DSGMC and its capacity reduced. So as to meet only the routine requirements.
The scheme for beautification of surroundings, in Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib, however must be taken in hand, on the lines as at Bangla Sahib. Also, plans should cater for optimum utilization of vast spaces at Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib to provide such facilities which would meet the present and future needs of the community such as-:
Ø Provisioning of a state of Art auditorium (as one in Islamic Cultural Centre) for the conduct of meetings, talks, seminars and intellectual discourses on Sikh history, culture and heritage. No such facility, as of now, exists.
Ø To provide a guest room well equipped with modern facilities to accommodate delegates, for participation in Seminars etc. A cafeteria could be co-located.
Ø To establish a State of the Art dispensary/polyclinic / diagnostic Centre. Also, public conveniences (bathroom / toilets) in three/four blocks located at easily accessible places, in each parts of the complex to meet the needs of Sangat particularly during Dewans.
Ø To establish a reference Library with modern facilities.
Ø To construct ten, well equipped classrooms/ small lecture halls for the conduct of courses, workshops to impart training to our youth in varied disciplines.
· Preparation for Central Government Services Examinations
· Computer Data Processing, training classes.
· Artificers training as tradesmen.
· Professional training of Granthis and Ragies. They could be graded for their competence and issued with merit certificates.
· Centre for nurses training for girls.
All these facilities would pay handsome dividends for the Development of our Community.
Modernisation of existing Cook House and Langar Hall could be also be considered.
The proposal to collect Donations “Worldwide” is commended. This would go a long way to create sense of involvement and cohesion in the community. Utilization of such funds should better be entrusted to an autonomous body, nominated by DSGMC.
The learned members of DSGMC are requested to take an objective view of these constructive and productive suggestions, rather than to invest vast resources (crores of rupees) and energies of the communities in creating an assets which would remain dormant for most part of the year.

Saudi diplomat dead in Karachi shooting
KARACHI: A Saudi diplomat Hassan al-Khatani is killed in a drive-by shooting near the consulate in Karachi on Monday,the second attack on Saudi interests came just days after two hand grenades were tossed at the consulate building, exploding but not hurting anyone in Pakistan's business city in less than a week,officials reports.
Pak official said,motive of the attack was not immediately clear, but authorities said they were investigating whether it was connected to the death of Saudi-born Osama bin Laden, killed by US forces in Pakistan on May 2.An official from the media section of the Saudi embassy identified the man as a Saudi diplomat. Karachi police named him as Hassan al-Khatani.Police authorities said that the Saudi had been driving a vehicle with diplomatic plates when two motorcycle riders unleashed a hail of gunfire at a crossroads in Defence."The consulate employee died of multiple bullet wounds on the spot," said Inspector General of Sindh Police Fayyaz Ahmad Leghari."The attackers fled on the motorbike," he added. "At this moment, we can't say who killed him," Leghari said.
Pakistan Provincial home ministry official Sharfuddin Memon identified the dead man as a junior officer at the consulate."We are investigating if it was linked to the Abbottabad operation or was an isolated incident," he said.Last Wednesday, drive-by assailants threw two grenades at the consulate in Karachi in what officials said could have been reaction to bin Laden's death.There was no claim of responsibility for the attack up-til now.Officials of the Saudi Arabia condemned the grenade assault a "terror attack" and said it had "full confidence" in Pakistan's ability to arrest the assailants, bring them to justice and provide the necessary protection to the Saudi mission. Jayalalithaa to be CM of Tamil Nadu for third term
AIADMK General Secretary Jayalalithaa will take over as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu today for a third term. She will be sworn-in along with 33 others in her Cabinet. TMC West Bengal legislature to elect leader
Trinamool Congress Legislature Party will meet in Kolkata on Sunday during which Mamata Banerjee is set to elected its new leader."The meeting of the newly-elected MLAs of the Trinamool Congress will be held here(Kolkata) tomorrow to elect the leader, party general secretary Mukul Roy said on Saturday.
Party insiders said that the meeting will elect Mamata Banerjee as its leader. The party won 184 of the 294 seats and its ally Congress 42.Banerjee, who spearheaded the alliance's resounding victory, met West Bengal Governor M K Narayan on Friday after the alliance secured a three fourths majority.
Asked who would take over as Railway Minister after she takes charge as Chief Minister, Banerjee said since the Trinamool had only one cabinet berth, she though that the party would be allowed to retain the portfolio.Banerjee will have to be elected within six months to become a member of the House.

Rahul Gandhi sat on a dharna at the epicenter of recent violence in Greater Noida district after he entered the village riding pillion on a motorcycle on Wednesday morning at around 3.30 PM. Congress general secretary,landed at Bhatta Parsaul village in this Delhi NCR region at about 4 AM, demanded a judicial inquiry into the firing incidents following violent clashes between police and farmers protesting Uttar Pradesh government's land acquisition and compensation policy.Four persons including two policemen were killed in the violence last Saturday.

During the month of April 2011, a total number of 1234 Visa on Arrival ( VoAs ) were issued . The number of VoAs issued during the month of March 2011 were 1089.During the period January-April 2011, a total number of 4139 VoAs were issued.
The country wise break up of VoAs issued during April 2011 was, Indonesia (255), New Zealand (241), Philippines (231), Japan (194), Singapore (165), Finland (105), Vietnam (13), Myanmar (12), Luxemburg (11) and Cambodia (7).
The country wise break up of VoAs issued during January-April 2011 was, New Zealand (946), Japan (777), Philippines (623), Singapore (596), Indonesia (551), Finland (516), Cambodia (49), Vietnam (32), Luxemburg (25) Myanmar (23), and Laos (1).
During the period January-April 2011, the maximum number of VoAs were issued at Delhi airport (2228), followed by Mumbai (1009), Chennai (684) and Kolkata (218).
As a facilitative measure to attract more foreign tourists to India, Government has launched a Scheme of “Visa on Arrival” (VoA) from January 2010 for citizens of five countries, viz. Finland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand and Singapore, visiting India for tourism purposes. This scheme has been extended for the citizens of six more countries, namely Cambodia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Laos and Myanmar from January 2011.

Second day ‘RabindraPranati
Today (8th May, 2011) was the second day of the week long festival, ‘RabindraPranati’ organized by the Sangeet Natak Akdemi under the auspices of Ministry of Culture to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore at Ravindra Bhawan, New Delhi. The day saw enthralling Manipuri and Kathak Performances by Tamana Rahman (Bangladesh) and Prerana Shirmali respectively followed by an enchanting medley of Rabindra Sangeet by Shama Rahman and Lilly Islam from Bangladesh and Sanjoy Sarkar(India). The evening was further alighted by the recitations of the Bangladeshi poet Bhaswar Bandopahyay.
Tamana Rahman, the accomplished (founder of the Nrityam Nrityasheelon Kendra, Dhaka) Manipuri dancer from Bangladesh held the audience at Meghdoot Theatre-III captive by an artful dance performance based on ‘Nodi’, a poem by Tagore that enunciates the surreal confluence of nature and civilization. Tamana Rahman’s beautiful articulation of Nodi was followed by the mesmeric performance by Prerana Shirmali. Perarna Shermali, a versatile Kathak Dancer hailing from the ‘Jaipur Gharana’ performed on excerpts of three poems from Geetanjali, ‘Abhisar’, ‘Aao’ and ‘Aroop’. Both these performances were part of the Katha Kavya Abhinaya’ and were staged twice at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. at Meghdoot Theatre III.
The audience at the Rabindra Bhawan witnessed not only the fascinating dance performances but was also indulged with soulful live music from 7 p.m. onwards. As a part of ‘Sangeetavritti’ organized by Sangeet Natak Akademi the open air theatre of Ravindra Bhawan, Meghdoot Theatre-I echoed with harmonious musical performances of Rabindra Sangeet by the very talented Shama Rahman and Lily Islam from Bangladesh. Shama Rahman while explaining what Rabindra Sangeet means to her eloquently stated, “through Tagore's songs and poems, I can express all my inner feelings. Tagore songs enrich me greatly. When I am happy, sad or in trouble, I take shelter in Rabindra Nath. I like to share that experience with people.” The musical extravaganza was taken further by the performance of Sanjoy Sarkar, the gifted Bengali singer from Delhi.
The event also boasted of poetry recitation by the celebrated Bangla poet Dr. Bhaswar Bandhopadhyay. Bhaswar Bandhopadhya recited ‘Shishu Tritha’ written by Tagore. The poem expresses and glorifies the victory of humanity.
The day two of the Rabindra Pranati was much enjoyed by Tagore fans and other Dance, music and poetry enthusiasts. The day saw some exquisite performance by both Bangladeshi and Indian artists. To quote Ms. Shanta Sarabjeet Singh, Vice-Chairman Sangeet Natak Akademi, “Nothing captures the flavor of Ravindra Sangeet more than the performances put up by the artists today. The performances today beautifully highlighted the universal essence of Tagore’s writing”.

Swamy moves application CBI to question PC in 2 G Scam
NEW DELHI: Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy said will seek the prime minister's sanction to prosecute Chidambaram and he was moving an application in the Special Court seeking home minister P Chidambaram's questioning by CBI and including his name in the charge-sheet as an additional accused in the 2G Spectrum allocation scam. He had earlier narrated a cabinet committee had directed former communications minister A. Raja and the then finance minister, Chidambaram, to arrive at the price at which the 2G radio waves were to be sold.The then home minister, Shivraj Patil, had prepared a report against allocating spectrum to Swan Telecom and Unitech on security reasons, he added.He said Chidambaram was informed by the then home minister Sivaraj Patil that Etisalat and Telenor, two foreign telecom players, should not be allowed to operate in India. “Etisalat had links with the Pakistani spy agency ISI and Dawood Ibrahim while Telenor had Chinese links. Chidambaram did not tell Raja about this information. Later also when he took over as the home minister, he kept the information to himself,” Swamy said.
"A Raja (former telecom minister) now has been charge-sheeted and one of the charges being that he deliberately fixed the low price for spectrum and thus causing a huge revenue loss for the nation. In view of the fact that the documents and evidence clearly established that P Chidambaram jointly decided to fix this low price, hence if Raja is culpable so is Chidambaram and the CBI therefore is guilty of a lapse in not including Chidambaram along with Raja (in charge sheet)", alleged Swamy in a statement.
Janata Party president explained that there isn't any need for sanction to prosecute home minister Chidambaram as the matter pertained to the period when the latter was the finance minister. Referring to a constitutional bench judgment of the Supreme Court, he said: "Once there is a change in the portfolio, sanction for offenses committed in this case as minister of finance will not require sanction for prosecution." Politicians, artists, scholars and litterateurs will gather at the Freedom Park in Bangalore City on Friday to participate in a public rally to start the 'padayatra' titled 'Janandolana' to Shimoga, spearheaded by JD(S) leader H D Deve Gowda and his son H D Kumaraswamy, alongside the CPI and the CPI (M) leaders.
The rally, which has been organised by the JD(S) in an attempt "to expose the BJP government's shortcomings and irregularities and corruption", will have personalities like U R Ananthamurthy and Gandhian H S Doreswamy participating in it.
Similar rallies will start from all the district centres, and the three-day rally will culminate in Shimoga on May 9. JD (S) State president H D Kumaraswamy is the latest politician to join the twitter bandwagon.
On Thursday, Kumaraswamy gave a call to the people of the State to join his party in his movement to end corruption, by tweeting: "Let what ever happen, I cannot sit quiet by seeing my state getting looted. I am going to fight till we get to a logical end. I request all my brothers and sisters from all sections of society irrespective of caste and religion to join hands in my fight."

Rajesh Rawat wins maiden title in Jaipur
Jaipur, May 5, 2011: Rajesh Rawat of Lucknow won the first leg of the 2011 PGTI Feeder Tour at the Rambagh Golf Club in Jaipur on Thursday. Rawat won his first professional title in his maiden appearance on the PGTI after a carded a four under 66 in the third and final round. He totaled four under 206 for the tournament. Jaipur’s Vishal Singh was the runner-up at three under 207.
Rajesh Rawat (73-67-66) made six birdies against two bogeys to come through in the final round. The highlights of his round were a couple of 20-feet birdie putts on the eighth and 14th as well as tee shots hit with pin-point precision on the 13th and 16th that left him with easy birdie putts.Rawat said, “It’s a great feeling to win in my first ever appearance on the PGTI. All the hard work that I put in to come through the qualifying school this year is finally paying off. I had a slow start today but I really turned it around on the back nine thanks to some accurate hitting and fabulous putting.”
He added, “I got some momentum going with the birdie on the eighth. From there on I knew that I would be in with a chance if I could shoot an under par score.”
Vishal Singh (71-69-67) of Jaipur came in second after he made four birdies and a bogey in his final round of 67. He totaled three under 207 for the week.

All the hard work that I put in to come through the qualifying school this year is finally paying off. I had a slow start today but I really turned it around on the back nine thanks to some accurate hitting and fabulous putting.”
He added, “I got some momentum going with the birdie on the eighth. From there on I knew that I would be in with a chance if I could shoot an under par score.”
Vishal Singh (71-69-67) of Jaipur came in second after he made four birdies and a bogey in his final round of 67. He totaled three under 207 for the week.

SC reserves verdict to track black money
Supreme Court on Wednesday reserved its order on a plea to set up a special investigation team (SIT) to track the black money stashed away in foreign banks and to take steps for bringing it back to the country.A bench of justices B Sudershan Reddy and S S Nijjar also reserved its verdict on a petition seeking directions to the government to make public the names of persons who have kept black money in the Liechtenstein Bank.
The Centre opposed the plea and contended before the bench that a committee comprising top officers from CBI, ED, IB and other departments has already been formed to deal with the black money cases.
Solicitor General Gopal Subramainum informed the court that the 10-member committee consisting of Revenue Secretary, RBI's Deputy Director, Directors of CBI, Intelligence Bureau (IB), Enforcement Directorate, Chairman of CBDT, Director General of Revenue Intelligence, chief of Narcotics Control, Director of Foreign Intelligence Office (FIO) and Joint Secretary of Foreign Trade has already been appointed.
The court then asked the government whether it would have any problem if a retired Supreme Court judge is appointed to monitor the functioning of the committee.
The government vehemently opposed the idea, saying it would hamper the investigation in the case.

Medvedev signs bill on 'gradation of terror'
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev tuesday signed a bill on the gradation of terror threats in three colour levels, which will allow him to take additional steps to boost security in the country.
According to the bill, passed earlier last month by the State Duma (Lower House) and Federation Council (Upper House) - there will be three alerts - blue, yellow and red depending on the gravity of a terror threat.
A senior official of the National Anti-terrorism Committee (NAC) Andrei Przhedomsky told reporters that the blue alert will be declared on receiving information about a planned terror attack, the yellow alert in case of confirmation of plans of a terror attack, but it is still not known when and where it will be carried out.
The red alert will be declared, when the place and time of the terrorist attack would be known or a terror attack has already taken place.Depending on the threat level the President has the right to take additional anti-terror steps, however, they will not affect the civil freedom and liberties, the Kremlin underscored.

US President’s Remarks on Osama bin Laden
Good evening. Tonight, I can report to the American people and to the world that the United States has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of al Qaeda, and a terrorist who’s responsible for the murder of thousands of innocent men, women, and children.
It was nearly 10 years ago that a bright September day was darkened by the worst attack on the American people in our history. The images of 9/11 are seared into our national memory -- hijacked planes cutting through a cloudless September sky; the Twin Towers collapsing to the ground; black smoke billowing up from the Pentagon; the wreckage of Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where the actions of heroic citizens saved even more heartbreak and destruction.
And yet we know that the worst images are those that were unseen to the world. The empty seat at the dinner table. Children who were forced to grow up without their mother or their father. Parents who would never know the feeling of their child’s embrace. Nearly 3,000 citizens taken from us, leaving a gaping hole in our hearts.
On September 11, 2001, in our time of grief, the American people came together. We offered our neighbors a hand, and we offered the wounded our blood. We reaffirmed our ties to each other, and our love of community and country. On that day, no matter where we came from, what God we prayed to, or what race or ethnicity we were, we were united as one American family.
We were also united in our resolve to protect our nation and to bring those who committed this vicious attack to justice. We quickly learned that the 9/11 attacks were carried out by al Qaeda -- an organization headed by Osama bin Laden, which had openly declared war on the United States and was committed to killing innocents in our country and around the globe. And so we went to war against al Qaeda to protect our citizens, our friends, and our allies.
Over the last 10 years, thanks to the tireless and heroic work of our military and our counterterrorism professionals, we’ve made great strides in that effort. We’ve disrupted terrorist attacks and strengthened our homeland defense. In Afghanistan, we removed the Taliban government, which had given bin Laden and al Qaeda safe haven and support. And around the globe, we worked with our friends and allies to capture or kill scores of al Qaeda terrorists, including several who were a part of the 9/11 plot.
Yet Osama bin Laden avoided capture and escaped across the Afghan border into Pakistan. Meanwhile, al Qaeda continued to operate from along that border and operate through its affiliates across the world.
And so shortly after taking office, I directed Leon Panetta, the director of the CIA, to make the killing or capture of bin Laden the top priority of our war against al Qaeda, even as we continued our broader efforts to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat his network.
Then, last August, after years of painstaking work by our intelligence community, I was briefed on a possible lead to bin Laden. It was far from certain, and it took many months to run this thread to ground. I met repeatedly with my national security team as we developed more information about the possibility that we had located bin Laden hiding within a compound deep inside of Pakistan. And finally, last week, I determined that we had enough intelligence to take action, and authorized an operation to get Osama bin Laden and bring him to justice.
Today, at my direction, the United States launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. A small team of Americans carried out the operation with extraordinary courage and capability. No Americans were harmed. They took care to avoid civilian casualties. After a firefight, they killed Osama bin Laden and took custody of his body.
For over two decades, bin Laden has been al Qaeda’s leader and symbol, and has continued to plot attacks against our country and our friends and allies. The death of bin Laden marks the most significant achievement to date in our nation’s effort to defeat al Qaeda.
Yet his death does not mark the end of our effort. There’s no doubt that al Qaeda will continue to pursue attacks against us. We must –- and we will -- remain vigilant at home and abroad.
As we do, we must also reaffirm that the United States is not –- and never will be -– at war with Islam. I’ve made clear, just as President Bush did shortly after 9/11, that our war is not against Islam. Bin Laden was not a Muslim leader; he was a mass murderer of Muslims. Indeed, al Qaeda has slaughtered scores of Muslims in many countries, including our own. So his demise should be welcomed by all who believe in peace and human dignity.
Over the years, I’ve repeatedly made clear that we would take action within Pakistan if we knew where bin Laden was. That is what we’ve done. But it’s important to note that our counterterrorism cooperation with Pakistan helped lead us to bin Laden and the compound where he was hiding. Indeed, bin Laden had declared war against Pakistan as well, and ordered attacks against the Pakistani people.
Tonight, I called President Zardari, and my team has also spoken with their Pakistani counterparts. They agree that this is a good and historic day for both of our nations. And going forward, it is essential that Pakistan continue to join us in the fight against al Qaeda and its affiliates.
The American people did not choose this fight. It came to our shores, and started with the senseless slaughter of our citizens. After nearly 10 years of service, struggle, and sacrifice, we know well the costs of war. These efforts weigh on me every time I, as Commander-in-Chief, have to sign a letter to a family that has lost a loved one, or look into the eyes of a service member who’s been gravely wounded.
So Americans understand the costs of war. Yet as a country, we will never tolerate our security being threatened, nor stand idly by when our people have been killed. We will be relentless in defense of our citizens and our friends and allies. We will be true to the values that make us who we are. And on nights like this one, we can say to those families who have lost loved ones to al Qaeda’s terror: Justice has been done.
Tonight, we give thanks to the countless intelligence and counterterrorism professionals who’ve worked tirelessly to achieve this outcome. The American people do not see their work, nor know their names. But tonight, they feel the satisfaction of their work and the result of their pursuit of justice.
We give thanks for the men who carried out this operation, for they exemplify the professionalism, patriotism, and unparalleled courage of those who serve our country. And they are part of a generation that has borne the heaviest share of the burden since that September day.
Finally, let me say to the families who lost loved ones on 9/11 that we have never forgotten your loss, nor wavered in our commitment to see that we do whatever it takes to prevent another attack on our shores.

Osama bin Laden killed retaliation feared

The special forces personnel swooped down on the compound where bin Laden was holed up guarded by his ultra loyal Arab bodyguards in a pre-dawn operation killing the dreaded terrorist, US officials said.
The news of the slaying of the world's most prominent terror mastermind was broken to the world by US President Barack Obama, who made the announcement live from White House."Bin Laden, 54, is dead and his body is in US custody," President Obama said at half past 11 midnight US time after initial story had been broken by news channels.Though it was dark, crowds massed outside White House chanting 'USA, USA'.
Besides the al-Qaeda chief who carried a bounty of USD 25 million, two couriers one of whom was his son and the other a woman, reportedly used as a human shields, were killed in the operation, unnamed American officials were quoted as saying by ABC News.
First reports said that it was through these couriers that bin Laden had been traced. Other women and children present in the compound were not harmed, according to Pakistani officials.
An American helicopter was destroyed by US Navy Seals after it was damaged and crashed during the operation that targeted a large compound in Bilal Town area near Abbottabad, 120 km from Islamabad.There was no word from the Pakistani government or military on the operation.Two US helicopters swept into the compound at 1:30 am and 2 am and 20 to 25 Navy Seals under the command of the Joint Special Operations Command stormed the compound in cooperation with the CIA and engaged bin Laden and his men in a firefight, US officials told ABC News.
